    I'm pretty sure it's 50 IP or 150 ABs. It's 130 ABs, 50 IP or 45 days on an MLB roster.

    Rich threw 23.2 IP last season, which means he's still eligible according to BA. I do wonder about is how BA determines a reliever is no longer a rookie since they ignore time on the big league roster. EDIT: Reading some old chat transcripts from BA, it looks like they go by a case by case situation and they probably will determine Hill is still a prospect. Consider him eligible unless something else comes up.

    I was not aware of that, try this on for size: Cubs get: Abreu (13M), Gonzalez(11.5M) + Cash from Dbacks & Phillies Phillies get: Tracy (400k) + Cubs Pitching Prospect Dbacks get: Hill (300k), and Williams (500k) Since the cubs would be taking 24.5 mil in salary, the dbacks & phillies would need to cough up about 5-10 mil combined to make this feasable, which would be possible by cubs trading more prospects. With these 2 bats, we could slide cedeno at SS, Walker at 2B (unless you can upgrade with Castillo), and sign/trade Bradley for CF (depending on the situation). Then Ship Murton to somewhere like Oakland for Zito, along with another pitching prospect. 2B Walker RF Abreu 1B Lee 3B Ramirez LF Gonzalez CF Bradley SS Cedeno C Barrett That lineup could score some runs. I think the DBacks get fleeced in that - Tracy and Gonzalez and money for Hill and Williams? They'll need more than that.

    I totally disagree for one simple reason - Perry doesn't take himself 1/10 as seriously as Rogers takes himself. Perry also is pretty smart, I definately don't think he's some sort of goon. Whoever had that Podsednik comment, you're a hypocrite. About 99.999999% of us advocated that Lee for Podsednik trade. Advocated for the Brewers, yes.

    http://www.ajc.com/braves/content/sports/braves/1105/24braves.html If this is the case, why not try to resign Nomar? How can anyone justify Alex Gonzalez as Plan B and Neifi Perez as Plan C? At that point, why bother, let Cedeno play and let me enjoy the rest of the Bears season without the illusion that this team might be competitive next season. Sounds a bit like posturing by Cubs officials. And yeah, there is no justifications for not having a backup here.

    I'd prefer losing Pinto over losing Marshall or Hill. I'd prefer not trading any of them for Pierre. In fact, I'd prefer not trading anyone for Pierre. Same here. Me three. Though I'd rather trade Hill than the other two (sorry abuck).

    Hopefully this means they're wrong about the Pierre deal. Pinto may be our best pitching commodity in the minors, as he's got great stuff, isn't constantly injured (a la Guzman), and is relatively close to the bigs. To give him AND two other prospects up for an overpriced, potentially awful Juan Pierre coming off of a bad season for 1 year is absolutely ridiculous. It still depends on who they are. I'd hate to give Pinto up, because he is close and healthy, but I still rate Hill and Marshall higher from the left side. But if the Cubs give up a couple of players with no future, it's a decent deal, depending on Pierre getting back to 2004 numbers. A lot depends on who the hypothetical two other players are, but trading Pinto to the Marlins gives me heartburn. You aren't the only one, Serena. :|

    I'm definitely in the play-Rex-when-he's-100% camp and it's good news that Rex is uniform. At the very least, in a week or so, Jeff Blake won't be the backup. :)

    :cry: They've increased their payroll though. All is well when trying to emulate the Yankees. :pukel: Except for the whole winning thing. BTW, UK, are you as livid as I am about giving up draft picks on top of the millions and the guaranteed roster spots for middle relievers? I'm not as livid as you as they needed to address the pen, they'll improve the pen. But, overspent in both years and dollars per. I'll be livid if these signings impact their bigger weaknesses. But, losing draft picks always hurts more when your Latin program has gone down the drain and the Pacific Rim scouting was being run by someone looking for greener pastures with no one set-up to take his place. As I always ponder and it would be the 1st question I'd ever ask Hendry, who was the last high ceiling prospect to be signed out of the DR, Pacific Rim, or Venezuela and when was he signed? Wouldn't it be Pie? And at least the Yanks spend the dough in Latin America and the Pacific Rim.

    Heh. Quentin is awesome. Yes, he played in 3 hitter's havens along the way to the big leagues (Lancaster, El Paso, Tucson), but he's still a very good hitter with great pitch selection. I wish he were a Cub.

    Hanley definitely is (well, was) the top Red Sox prospect and a top-20 MLB prospect. I was questioning the pitching prospect that the Fish got, thinking they could have done better, but definitely am not questioning the Fish acquiring Ramirez. I think Boston got the better of the trade, but not by much.

    Also, Dusty loves to have guys with specific roles and giving him a player like Eyre can fit that (better than Remlinger did, with his reverse splits). But rather than Howry, I'd prefer Romero or Betancourt via trade since the years and money given to Eyre was so high - I wouldn't want to go down that road with two players.
