Why wouldn't Rizzo? June at the latest. To steal an extra year of team control out of him, rather than waste one on a lost season. And spending all year mashing pcl is a year of wasted development. Hold a couple months to ensure hes not a super two, but he might as well be here if he's ready. -

You don't have to can Lovie, but his influence seems to extend a bit far. Why would he be involved with the GM search. Just make him GM.

Well those guys havent been moved yet. If they are I trust its because we don't need them to compete (Marmol, Byrd) or we moved them for a great package, like the marshall deal. If Garza goes it is a lot less likely we are ready for 2013. Most other guys we can replace so if we upgrade organizational strength, all is well. Still, moving Garza could be the right move even if it sets us back a little short term.

All we have to do to match 07/08 success is make the playoffs. We can still do that by 2013. The rest of this off season could change that, but no reason to start punting 2013 also.

Dusty won't ruin him, he'll just use him as a LOOGY. Maybe dusty wont ruin him, just his value. Then we'll sign him back next offseason to a team friendly contract haha

I suppose even that half year in the minors is worth it so they don't become super 2's once arbitration hits. Still dont like the Johnson sigining. Isn't there another junk 5th OF we can sign for about half the price and pretend he's a 4th OF?

What moves have put off contending? Trading a relief pitcher who was going to become too expensive to be worth keeping in a year? I guess there have been non moves, but none of the moves will prevent us from being a contender. This is the worst move and its annoying and I dont understand it but its not preventing us from being a contender. Our lack of top end talent is doing that.

Reed Johnson's skill set make him a good 5th OF. I think the concern is that he'll be paid more like a 4th OF. And he'll probably actually serve as our 4th OF. That part I can deal with if he wasn't goin to get a million or more dollars.

What would be acceptable prospect wise? One who would be among our top 10 list and one among our top 25? Or is that too optimistic?

Hows the Reds' farm? Depending on what those two prospects are, I'm okay with this. I like Marshall a lot, but I'll take the assets now before he is overpaid and we have nothing.

Yep. If the Bears aren't making the playoffs, I want the NFL to explode. If Tebow wins this one, I'm hoping he wins about 7 more in a row. Tebow winning the superbowl while ruining a perfect 19-0 season for GB is the most entertaining outcome to the NFL season i can imagine, short of the Bears winning of course. -
OTOH, cap space next offseason will be affected somewhat by your decisions on Hibbert and Rush. Rush would be easy enough to let go but it would hurt to let Hibbert go and then strike out. As a competent 7 footer his price wont be cheap. Plus extendin other young guys comes into play in the folliwing seasons. Perhaps the best solution is to take on salary now to get a big piece, giving up a couple young players to get that impact player now.

So I guess the amnesty clause is available for the remainder of the deal, but only for current deals. We may see it used in that case, but still not this year.

Based on the few and vague info regarding the deal so far, I don't really like it. However, I just wanted NBA basketball at this point, so I'm happy. It sounds a little better than some of the stuff coming out the past few weeks.
