  1. dew, I pm'd you.
  2. WR skills like route running and an abillity to go meet the ball rather than wait for it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  5. Seriously. I was certain his NFL career was over. Must be that delicious 41.8 QB Rating he turned in last year. He's up there with Jonathan Quinn and Henry Burris as worst QBs to ever wear a Bears uniform. Maybe they figure if Peyton can't play they want to at least ensure the top pick. In all seriousness Hanie could be a backup in this league. He has decent tools, he just forced way too many awful throws. With the right coaching and development he can carve a role as a career backup. He's not devoid of talent completely. That said, I won't surprise if he doesn't stick after this year and if he doesn't, his career is over for sure.
  6. Heh I always like Brown, but didn't he retire because no one was interested in signing him? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. May eventually develop into a TE? Bwahaha. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  10. I think the earliest is likely 2014, assuming details with the buyout can work. NBA teams can only pay up to 500K of a buyout and his first contract will be tied to the rookie scale still for a while. I want to say his current contract ends after 2016 at which point you wouldn't need a buyout, but its unlikely he'd get to that point without extending the years, so at some point a buyout is likely going to have to occur. The key is when his salary isn't tied by the rookie scale. I think its either two years or four years. Once we can pay him more, it will be easier to entice him, regardless of the large buyout number. Edit-Research: He'll be tied to the rookie scale amount for his first three years, which at the 120% max is as follows: 1,242,240.00 | 1,335,360.00 | 1,428,600.00 His buyout is said to be 2Mil EUR, which is about $2.6M in today's dollars. Bulls could pay $500K this year and increase by increments of 25K each year. So in 2013, with the Bulls kicking in the full amount allowed, he's losing about $620K that first season. Now its possible for him to work out a payment plan with his club or negotiate a lower buyout, but he's still being hit pretty hard funding a buyout on the scale of a 23rd pick. Starting in year 4 from the draft (2014 off season), we could sign him like any other free agent, the catch of course you need cap space or cap exceptions (like the MLE) to do it. The MLE is now a lot less effective, especially if you are over the luxury tax. Hard to say for sure, but we will likely be over the tax at that point, so our MLE won't be the full-sized one. So Mirotic, would still be taking a huge cut his first year. In 2015 Boozer expires, so we'd probably have the full MLE to use, but you have to keep in mind, that we wouldn't have any room for FA additions, as he'd be it. He'd be 24 at that point. The next season he'd be free of his Real Madrid commitment, but I doubt he takes that risk. At some point he'll extend. All that being said, I think it will work out. People were worried Asik wasn't coming over for a long time, especially because I believe he signed an extension after his first year, but it all worked out and he came over in a reasonable schedule.
  11. Couple of thoughts: If we start the mock draft on the day FA starts (March 13), we could go 37 days of mock draft until April 18. Just get as deep as we can (for those who are junkies and want to go past 2 rounds). Don't be strict on any schedule, something like roughly a 10-12 hour limit (excluding middle of the night hours) before you miss your slot. Then if we start over on Apr-19 and average 4 a day-being stringent on the time slots- we could get a first round draft v2.0 in right before the actual draft, which will be more a more accurate since its right up to the draft. Since there'd be pretty straightforward draft times, allow trades during this portion. Yea it sucks to be in a specific time slot, we all have work and lives, but at least you'll be pretty sure if you'll be available to post or not during your slot, and if you aren't you find a volunteer you can send your top 4 board to the day before. Also we don't want to be too worried about accuracy since once crazy pick early will affect the whole mock draft anyways. I think the Suh/Bradford draft someone picked Suh for the Rams pick and the rest of the first round ended up being wacky and inaccurate.
  12. Theres a lot of internet chatter about him moving up teams boards, but I haven't read much about 1st round. Prior to the combine wasnt he a 3/4 rounder? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. That's a good thought. I'm concerned that we can't get too regimented, though, or too many people won't be able to participate. Yea, it doesn't have to be too regimented, but maybe every 2 days or so post an expected number of picks to be made, so as long as you check every couple days, you'll know if your pick is expected within the next two days. If it moves faster than expected thats okay too, just update again in two days. Another way to help is to try and make as many duos/trios as possible (even if it means doubling up) to increase the odds someone is around when a pick is up. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. Apologies, I did put words onto your mouth. I agree a fast 40 time is more likely to correlate to a fast football player. Except its not nearly the best indicator. It'd be like saying upper body strength is an indicator a player is more likely to hit home runs. Maybe true, but not when you have much better things to look at to determine it. If I had nothing else to judge speed on than combine 40 times, I'd go with that. Except we do. Other tests, game tape, results, position drills, etc. And no, a track stance doesn't make a slow person slow. It makes a slow person less slow. It pretty much speeds up anyone as long as you practice it some. The more you practice that stance the more time you shave off. Everyone will be slower out of an actual football positions, but that drop off it not uniform. Even if its more likely than not uniform on a macro level, you still have better ways to determime when it is or isnt uniform on an individual level. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. What will be the tentative start date and time limits of picks. Its be kind of nice to lay out a rough sched that gets us through two rounds in a short amount of time as possible leading right to the draft. Something like a goal of 3 picks during weekdays and 5 on sat/sun. You could knock out a two rd draft in about 2 and a half weeks like that. I feel like we've waited around for 24 hrs in the past just to have someone not show up and it just is too slow. If we have a schedule people know when to be there to post or if they know they cant to pm someone their board to post their pick for them. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. Wright has played a lot of downs, just none at the nfl level. Something he shares with every draft prospect. I guess with that attitude you should just trade out of the first altogether.(although i will point out the original premise that started the Wright debate was falling to the second rd anyways) But to illustrate this "a faster runner will be faster in all circumstances" is baloney you just need to look at some of the other running events. Stephen Hill has people going crazy after him cuz of his 40 time and his size. 40yd : 4.36 Cone: 6.88 20yd sh: 4.48 Wright: 40yd: 4.61 Cone: 6.93 20yd sh: 4.18 When the type of running changed Wrights drop off was way less (in the cone) and so much less in the 20yd he was actually faster than hill. Hill went up in his 20 yd shuttle from his 40! Its a simple fact that can be seen every year countless times over. Speed changes when the type of running changes. And the 40 just happens to be the least football like event they run. You just can't take a 40 time and use it as a blanket barmoter for speed especially because the the most important part (the start) is unlike anything you use on a football field and the rest you don't really do more than 10% of the time (fly routes, return coverage, running down ball carrier). Even in those things poor footwork can negate good speed. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. You mean in college? How about because a lot of defenders in college suck? Its not like the guy is coming from Abilene Christian. There was plenty of talent to judge his performances against. Sure he will be slower relatively, everyone is.
  18. Okay, Wright is a slow receiver. Yet he still beat so many defenders to the ball or to the endzone. Why?
  19. Also, i think the last time we disagreed in a thread (i dont post much) you were supposed to change your name to raging anus or something. What gives? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. Assuming there is still no Ravens fan I'll take thdm again. If there is I'm willing to draft wherever is empty Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. Kendall Wright is a fast receiver. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. That would not necessarily follow at all. That's the entire point. Fast runners can end up playing slow (on a relative basis) on the football field. yes it would. fast people are more likely to be fast in any situation. just like good hitters are more likely to be good hitters in clutch situations. Not really a great example. Hitting in the clutch is 100% the same all else being equal. Running straight line and running as it relates to football activities are pretty different. More like if you change the pitcher on the mound as far as comparisons go. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  23. Regarding the track stance. Someone who is trying to up their 40 time for scouts can get a noticable improvement just by practicing out of that. Unfortunately all that practice does nothing on the football field. Its just a fact some guys won't see as much of a drop off once actually in action. I wish they'd actually test out of multiple stances so you could try and make those observations. Also any speed test over 10 yards is kinda useless if its just straight line, other than perhaps trying to see who will be a good gunner on special teams. And the Jerry Rice example, while overdone, is a good example if the specific reason you are defending a player is his footwork, cuz thats hor Jerry Rice was able to play faster than his 40 indicated. If its pulled out just because a guy has a slow 40, its silly. I never recall someone like Mike Williams being applauded for his footwork, whereas Wright is. Sure it doesn't mean anytging regarding Wright's success, but its still an good example. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  24. Except anyone who saw tape raved about his speed. Did every db just go 80% against him thus making him look fast? Did they accidentally watch it in fast forward? The combine results are a good way to measure your scouting against. They can help confirm what your eyes see. But when the results are dramatically different than what you see (better or worse) you have to step back and remember they will never do anything at the combine on a football field. Ever. Especially if you can pinpoint the reason for the difference. Like perhaps that WR really sucks getting burst out of a modified 3 pt stance. I can live with that. Plus even looking at the measurements, I want to look at them as a full package. Stack it against the shuttles and cone drills gives a much better viewpoint from which you evaluate a player's speed. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  25. Have you ever seen a WR line up in a track stance? Jerry Rice ran a 4.71. Sure he also had decent size, but still, he didn't play like a guy who runs a 4.7 on the football field. Besides even taking into account the 40, the other measurements/times are just as important if not more so. Most reports i've read has Wright with among the best WR skills in the class. And he looked explosive on the field. I'd be willing to look past tge 40 time all other things being the same. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
