We'll have to be active in FA. We won't be able to field a roster or have a major league payroll without doing so. But you're gonna see shorter deals and more "cost effective" deals for the time being I think. We have to spend on the ML roster because we're limited on what we can spend on amateurs now. My sister was the honorary bat girl. It was when Montgomery Wards was a Cubs sponsor and they sponsored a honorary bat girl/boy each game. My uncle worked for them and hooked us up. Spend 75-90% of your budget on your top 4-5 players. Don't get tied to any player. Use your cheat sheet and stick to your values. Also be patient and let the draft strategy unfold. You may find owners are too agressive and that after a few rounds players will be significantly cheaper than you thought. Do as many espn mock drafts as you can to get a feel for it. Better yet, save all that data to determine what players actual value may be. Also don't necessarily nominate players in order of skill. Nominating some middling players early can help you guage the other teams, and you might get a steal early if other teams hold back their budget. I know that the Nationals have put a lot more thought on it than I have, so I'll defer to their decision over my opinion, but I'm not completely convinced it isn't just some arbitrary number that will have no effect on future injuries. No, I've read all the posts. I just can't recall Tim being this negative before. Okay that took a moment to sink in...I lumped myself in with WSR on something. OH....MY...GOD. #-o It's been a long week. :) I know I was too dramatic in my phrasing in the initial posts in the thread, but I stand by the logic of what I've said. Starlin is a good player now and is highly likely to be a really good player throughout his prime. But he will need to seriously step up his production down the stretch to avoid having this season be a step backwards offensively. I'm fine with it if that is the cost of adjusting his approach. But until those results are seen his projections have to be taken down a notch from where the were previously. Projection wise, why is an increased walk rate with a low babip a bad thing? I know you feel that the mid season cut off is arbitrary, but honestly the season cutoff mark is kind of arbitrary. If you look at his entire basis of work he had 1400ish straight plate appearances of a being a low walk high contact rate guy. Now hes had 200ish with a significant increase in walk rate while having that low babip. I think if that separation in approaches was between two seasons you wouldn't care and chalk up his crappy start to a season as bad luck bit encouraging because of the walk rate. He is very guarded in situations like this and the new GM is even more so. guarded, but not totally lying. For instance typical lovie might say a player being held out for precautionary reasons when he is actually hurt. But to just make up personal issues to cover an injury?
