  1. Reed Johnson's skill set make him a good 5th OF. I think the concern is that he'll be paid more like a 4th OF. And he'll probably actually serve as our 4th OF. That part I can deal with if he wasn't goin to get a million or more dollars.
  2. What would be acceptable prospect wise? One who would be among our top 10 list and one among our top 25? Or is that too optimistic?
  3. Hows the Reds' farm? Depending on what those two prospects are, I'm okay with this. I like Marshall a lot, but I'll take the assets now before he is overpaid and we have nothing.
  4. What about trying him as a starter? But yea, I'm for trading him.
  5. You'll always be Brian Williams to me.
  6. Yea. Rotoworld is clearly enabling Metta World Peace.
  7. Poor guy was just trying to make sure he could make a living once football was over.
  8. Spring training invite? Sure. Actual guaranteed MLB dollars and roster spots on 40 man? Run away!
  9. I don't get the irony, but I sure hope he was trying to be.
  10. Yep. If the Bears aren't making the playoffs, I want the NFL to explode. If Tebow wins this one, I'm hoping he wins about 7 more in a row. Tebow winning the superbowl while ruining a perfect 19-0 season for GB is the most entertaining outcome to the NFL season i can imagine, short of the Bears winning of course.
  11. OTOH, cap space next offseason will be affected somewhat by your decisions on Hibbert and Rush. Rush would be easy enough to let go but it would hurt to let Hibbert go and then strike out. As a competent 7 footer his price wont be cheap. Plus extendin other young guys comes into play in the folliwing seasons. Perhaps the best solution is to take on salary now to get a big piece, giving up a couple young players to get that impact player now.
  12. So I guess the amnesty clause is available for the remainder of the deal, but only for current deals. We may see it used in that case, but still not this year.
  13. No they really don't. Another detail I just read. D-Rose will get paid: ZachLowe_SI Tweak for players: Rookies eligible for extensions could get one worth 30% of cap level, up from 25%
  14. Based on the few and vague info regarding the deal so far, I don't really like it. However, I just wanted NBA basketball at this point, so I'm happy. It sounds a little better than some of the stuff coming out the past few weeks.
  15. The new deal will apparently have the amnesty clause because KC Johnson tweeted that the Bulls will be monitoring amnesty pick ups for a SG they can sign for the veteran minimum. I'm assuming that the player can't get more than their previous contract, similar to waivers in baseball, so there won't be any motivation for teams or the player to sign more than the minimum. So it will be about making the best pitch to whoever we want. I think we have a pretty good pitch for potential SGs. His name is Kieth Bogans.
  16. When the Red Sox won their first title they hadn't built up their young core yet. They won with a group of pretty established players that were expensive or about to get expensive. By the time they won their second championship they had built up their young core through the draft and development process while still having some of those more expensive players from the first group. One doesn't have to come before the other. All you can do is be prepared at all times to add talent to the roster. If you are prepared to do so, by any means, you take advantage of the opportunity and don't worry about some specific timeline which is less important that acquiring talent. That doesn't mean you throw out all vision, but there are no absolutes and acquiring an elite talent through FA is not something to pass up because of timing.
  17. Now, I can see Jerry Jones throwing away 2.5 million in this instance, but I would have been floored if Green Bay threw that money away. I know they're an NFL franchise, but 2.5 million dollars a lot of cheddar (pun intended). Not to mention Dallas would be attempting to block actual competition for a playoff spot and not just spite for a rival
  18. If we sign a vet QB I wonder where we find the extra roster spot. I would say they could use Mannely's spot, but word is they're likely to get a full time long snapper. Bogus IR injury for someone like Mario Addison maybe?
  19. If we're trying to find trends in decline why pick an arbitrary cutoff as seasoms end anyways? Statistically you'd want a moving average and to study the movement. I mean depending on how quickly you believe declines occur what happened the last month of 2010 is near if not just as relevant as the first month in 2011. Its clear Albert will decline, but it may not be for 3 years and this year was a just a blip. Or he may level off for the next 6.
  20. Sweet block by decicco.
  21. I am happy this has occurred to someone besides me. Hope you're happy.
  22. I'm hoping we get some word tomorrow on the fate of the holdover staff. Riggins is likely the only sure thing to be gone and getting a top notch pitching coach may be just as important or more so than the right manager. Any idea who some possible candidates are. I'm putting my bets on someone with a Boston connection.
  23. What are the options if he isn't our fifth starter. Can he be sent to AAA as an extra arm or is pretty much a waive or keep scenario?
  24. I can't get past his stupid name, but I'm sure he's a good hire. Lets get to some real news now: player acquisition.
  25. Ah yes that consistent BA, even though Pena got on base at a .357 clip compared to .339. In the list of backup options to Pujols and Fielder, I'd bring back Pena before give up any assets for Loney.
