  1. Are we going to do a re-vote with the top 3 if it stays this close?
  2. 5 spots could still make a difference, but I'd be fine losing a 4th also.
  3. Man if you can get an impact player at 14 and only spend a 5th to trade up several spots in the second (assuming someone you like is in striking distance) I'd be all about that over trading down to late first to get a couple extra picks.
  4. He'll I've seen Jernigan mocked all the way to our 14 pick. And I think Long shows Emery's not going to drop down if he think the value is right. I'm pretty confident they can score a lot of depth and rotation players in FA. I'd actually rather see us stay at 14 and also trade up in the second round if a guy like Donald or Jernigan is falling and try and get two impact players with those first two picks. What did the Alshon Jeffrey trade up cost, a third or a fourth?
  5. I think we're all jumping the gun a bit to even think one rebounded season of Castro gets us an interesting package.
  6. I haven't researched enough to know the drop off of talent but I feel one impact defender will be there at our spot . Not sure about 30 and I'd rather get the impact guy.
  7. Is there a good site for minor league splits? Are we sure either if these guys are only lefty mashers and not moderately successful against both sides?
  8. Does he smell like cabbage? Presumably but we may have to wait for private workouts since I do t think the combine has included that test yet.
  9. I've read some other down opinions on him. Supposedly he has small hands so you may see his value fall a but after the combine.
  10. Also I know he has had his issues there but are we sure if he was in any other organization he wouldn't still be viewed as a 3B prospect? I mean it's basically never too late to become a LF so if Baez/Bryant/Olt/Villanueva/Valbuena don't exist, I think they're still trying to eek out 3B value from Vitters.
  11. Having sat in the rooftops before I really don't even think a slightly blocked view hurts their business model that much.
  12. Vitters outproduces Lake at MLB level.
  13. To think that veteran FA pitchers give two [expletive] about the rankings of 20 year prospects is a bit of a stretch. Baseball veterans hate young players. They aren't putting their future in the hands of kids. But they also like money, right? Or am I totally off base, here? They'll put their futures in the hands of a stacked young team that is the high bid for their services. Even with TV money the problem is the Cubs being outbid. We can say with some certainty they'd be involved on a top young FA pitcher, but are they going to go for it all even if it means going outside their comfort level? It was the Yankees this time. Maybe it won't be them again, but the Dodgers or some other team is always gonna be in play. LA and NY just may switch off every year and outbid us each time.
  14. I mean realistically, not as a concept of what's legally possible.
  15. Everyone needs to realize that it means parting with Noah. I'm cool with that but I sense most won't be. Also ideally, it means making Melo a SF again and dealing with any defensive downside that entails. But Rose-Butler-Melo-Mirotic-Taj is a pretty intriguing lineup even if I think it's totally questionable if it's better than what we have now+Mirotic
  16. Nah I'd rather just take a highly regarded bat and keep going quantity with arms.
  17. If you're putting Vitters that low, you're basically just taking the lure of the unknown, a bunch of lottery tickets over actual minor league production. There's some serious doubts with Vitters particularly with his 2012 MLB showing, but there's still some skills there. You're talking about a lot of guys with 1-2 promising tools and then question marks about everything else. Vitters I guess has the disadvantages of having those unknowns displayed at higher levels, but has kept basically his best tool intact and is showing some progress in plate discipline. There's a lot less luster as a LF/1B than a 3B but in another system teams would probably be making more of an effort to keep him at 3B. Even as a backup CIF/COF bench player and possible platoon I think there's a lot to like. And is he really injury prone? Last year was really his only big injury year I recall. Also I wouldn't take 24 as a bad thing. They could keep him in AAA for part or the whole year and he still wouldn't be -whoa this guy is too old to be a prospect, old.
  18. Maybe they won't go all the way up to 100M but I find it pretty hard to imagine them not getting at least one more SP and possibly a second (even if it's a Baker injury gamble type) which could put at least another 10-15M in payroll, on short term deals.
  19. Vitters might be in the 30-40 range if he's lucky. I disagree. Once we get in the teen range were talking about a lot of lower level guys particularly lower level pitchers. Vitters wasn't able to rebound last season but was out due to injury. The small sample wasn't bad. Probably depends on how much you split ceiling verse floor. I'm not exactly sure where I have Vitters yet but there's probably a case verse Top 20.
  20. While they're not a playoff team with a good start maybe a good start is enough to avoid a trade deadline sell off
  21. I'd have to imagine they trade at least one of the slots. And even then you're probably talking about being real aggressive on the 100k range guys and just overpaying the ones you like the most.
  22. Great for them. Neither of them has run a playoff team since 2009. Priorities, I guess. Your dismissal of minor league playoffs is offensive.
  23. I went Vogelbach and Olt. Also while I'm not too close to voting for him yet I think Vitters should get added to the polls soon. He's right around that big mess of prospects in the teen range for me.
  24. I do like the idea of PATs being made slightly more difficult. Put it on the 15 and snap from there. Does the two point still start from the 2 and a half? Can you fake it from the 15? Is that one or two?
