  1. FWIW Hope he can come up with 6 picks again... he does have 18 on his career.
  2. Its okay if it doesn't preclude us from still pursuing younger impact safeties too, IMO.
  3. Yea... basically a repeat of Antrelle Rolle. Hope this works out better
  4. Kind of depends how its structured. I hope most of that guarantee is a 2017 roster bonus instead of a signing bonus.
  5. I'm very unproductive today.
  6. Stills staying in MIA for 4/32, with 20m guaranteed. I think that's a good sign from the Bears POV for Alshon's market, right?
  7. I won't get that specific, I think you can widen the list of acceptable CB and WR, but that would then be predicated on finding upgrades at other spots on the roster, as you'd likely be spending less.
  8. FWIW - sounds like Gilmore's deal is 5/70. Considering he is staying in division and going to the reigning champs, I imagine the Bears would have had to significantly beat that offer. Not sure Gilmore would be worth that cost. There are still some good CBs on the market, including Logan Ryan who the Pats won't be brigning back now (and I wonder if they can even retain Malcolm Butler). And I guess they aren't out at Bouye yet. Titans frontrunner, but Bears have $13/m offer out ... https://twitter.com/AllbrightNFL/status/839840974893375488
  9. Well neither of us knows either way, :dontknow: Well you did bring up Glennon at the start of this discussion, but fine, I understand the point is more about the lack of D players committed right now. Either way, its incredibly early to say the Bears aren't bringing in top D talent. Unfortunately the very best defenders who are REALLY worth blowing your load on were tagged. As it is now, we could conceivably do just as well for ourselves in FA on the third tier guys on day 3 and 4 verse the tier 2 guys on days 1 and 2.
  10. Well winning with a dominant D I think would be true with Cutler too, so thats a cash/cost wash. I do like Cutler better, but I'm not sure that difference is enough to have strong opinions on. So they are in the same predicament had they done what I would do and kept Cutler. THE POINT IS THEY ARE MISSING OUT ON TOP DEFENSIVE PLAYERS while committing to Glennon. They didnt miss out on those guys because of Glennon though. And theres still other guys to get (and draft, which will be critical to building a dominant D)
  11. I mean, thats the case until we draft the rare franchise QB, right? But the point is they are pursuing the strategy of running a handcuffed offense. It's one thing to actually try and field an offense that can score points and failing because you got the wrong QB. But when you give a QB $15m/year, knowing he's not going to be putting up points, your strategy is to win with defense. In order to do that you need a defense that can win you games and the Bears aren't doing that either. Well winning with a dominant D I think would be true with Cutler too, so thats a cash/cost wash. I do like Cutler better, but I'm not sure that difference is enough to have strong opinions on. So they are in the same predicament had they done what I would do and kept Cutler.
  12. Its not great, but thats FA for you. The saving grace is the strength of the position in the draft.
  13. I mean, thats the case until we draft the rare franchise QB, right?
  14. Waiting for guarantee and structure details. Hopefully that leaks shortly after FA opens.
  15. I don't know about that. Fangio likes to put his corners on islands so he can dial up creative blitzes. At least, that's what he'd like to do. Bouye is the better fit for that. Isn't that the coverage scheme Gilmore has mostly ran under Pettine/Ryan defenses?
  16. DeSean Jackson to Bucs, so take away Tampa as a Jeffery suitor (though maybe WAS would now be interested as the look set to lose Garcon too)
  17. Isn't Gilmore the better scheme fit? I know they had interest in Boyue last year, but that was at minimal salary. They have interest this year, reportedly. Look a few posts up. Yea I know, but I mean I think they preferred Gilmore, presumably because scheme fit... before it didnt go well.
  18. Would rather have Bouye Isn't Gilmore the better scheme fit? I know they had interest in Boyue last year, but that was at minimal salary.
  19. is 13 drops in 6 games even a relatively high total? i'm thinking it is, but obviously it's not like you just turn them all into completions. Yea, seems kind of pointless to add back in drops. Besides, did he see the Bears WRs last year? Our QB is going to have to overcome some drops lol.
  20. Well you could cherry pick stats to support either, probably. But I'd personally favor the stats that favor Glennon plus the fact that he could improve from what he was as a rookie and second year guy verse a now over 30 Hoyer who probably isn't getting better. I've also seen enough of Hoyer to not like his game much. Cant say the same for Glennon, to be fair.
  21. Honestly if Romo goes to Denver, I think Jay winds up in Houston or Miami. Based on things I've read, he'll probably retire before going to NYJ or Cleveland. The market has worked out pretty well for him. Taylor is staying in Buffalo, Garropolo likely staying in NE, Glennon probably to Chicago. You're basically down to Romo, Cutler, Kaepernick, and Fitzpatrick. And I'm pretty sure Jay will have priority over the latter two. If Cutler ends up in Houston, I'm definitely adopting them next year as my second team.
  22. There is no outcome on the bell curve where you can build around Glennon. Theres like 6 QBs in the game like that. The optimistic end is that he is a borderline top 1/3 QB, and can go far with him and a talented D and good supporting cast.... like a prime Flacco. so he can or cannot be elite? Exactly

  24. I kind of doubt that. McCaskey has always been a big Cutler fan. I'm kind of where David is at. I don't view Glennon as a mere stop gap. I think he could conceivably adequately fill the roll for a few years. And being younger than Cutler, there is a past/future argument thst could be made. With Taylor not hitting the market, he is also probably the best vet option for this team. That said, it is critical that the Bears stop treating the position as one that only requires major investment once a decade. If for some reason Glennon precludes a serious investment in a young signal caller (whereas say Hoyer wouldn't have) I'd be very upset. Would I have loved to keep Cutler? Yes, because I love Cutler, but I suppose I just accepted long ago he wasnt going to be back. Contract will be interesting to see. Sounds like 3/45 or so. If I was a betting man, I'll say its heavily front loaded with a 2017 roster bonus and can be walked away from without much pain after year one. 3/42 with up to 6M in incentives and 18M guaranteed. I'll take that hypothetical deal over Hoyer at any cost FWIW.
