funny? like our frame of reference is suddenly back where it should be for any nfl team. back then i might've been excited about that WR who had an OK year this year for us who i can't even name. Uh, I wouldn't say "for any other NFL team" just the Bears of the aughts.

Eh FA is usually fools gold anyways. The only thing that really matters is the W-L record. Don't get me wrong, I'll hold an opinion on the moves, but Pace basically has one metric from me that matters going forward.

I'm not saying he's not, but that second best safety has a PFF grade equal to the CB that is getting 5/70 from the Pats. I'm not sure who is ultimately better between Jones Quartey and Amos...

Kind of depends how its structured. I hope most of that guarantee is a 2017 roster bonus instead of a signing bonus.

I won't get that specific, I think you can widen the list of acceptable CB and WR, but that would then be predicated on finding upgrades at other spots on the roster, as you'd likely be spending less.

FWIW - sounds like Gilmore's deal is 5/70. Considering he is staying in division and going to the reigning champs, I imagine the Bears would have had to significantly beat that offer. Not sure Gilmore would be worth that cost. There are still some good CBs on the market, including Logan Ryan who the Pats won't be brigning back now (and I wonder if they can even retain Malcolm Butler). Well neither of us knows either way, :dontknow: Well you did bring up Glennon at the start of this discussion, but fine, I understand the point is more about the lack of D players committed right now. Either way, its incredibly early to say the Bears aren't bringing in top D talent. Unfortunately the very best defenders who are REALLY worth blowing your load on were tagged. As it is now, we could conceivably do just as well for ourselves in FA on the third tier guys on day 3 and 4 verse the tier 2 guys on days 1 and 2.

Well winning with a dominant D I think would be true with Cutler too, so thats a cash/cost wash. I do like Cutler better, but I'm not sure that difference is enough to have strong opinions on. So they are in the same predicament had they done what I would do and kept Cutler. THE POINT IS THEY ARE MISSING OUT ON TOP DEFENSIVE PLAYERS while committing to Glennon. They didnt miss out on those guys because of Glennon though. And theres still other guys to get (and draft, which will be critical to building a dominant D)

I mean, thats the case until we draft the rare franchise QB, right? But the point is they are pursuing the strategy of running a handcuffed offense. It's one thing to actually try and field an offense that can score points and failing because you got the wrong QB. But when you give a QB $15m/year, knowing he's not going to be putting up points, your strategy is to win with defense. In order to do that you need a defense that can win you games and the Bears aren't doing that either. Well winning with a dominant D I think would be true with Cutler too, so thats a cash/cost wash.
