No point guard could be a problem. Luckily Thomas is an awful defender. Jimmy and Wade should probably be bringing the ball up/starting the offense the majority of the time tonight, IMO. Let MCW do it a little but Jimmy/Wade should be the primary ball handlers tonight. If I were the Bulls I'd be trying to get IT guarding Wade tonight and let him work him. Also try and run a lot of pick and rolls with Jimmy picking IT to try and get a switch and let Jimmy go to work. MCW should do a good job guarding IT, right? But they can kind of hide IT on him defensively. Obviously you try to force matchups where you can, but Grant or Zipser with Jimmy playing point, should provide more well rounded lineups. MCW will probably have to log some minutes though.

I feel like any argument in favor of a major rule change ultimately ends up arguing "look, it will impact relatively few amount of games", which kind of undermines the argumemt for needing a change amyways. The best arguments in relation to this "issue" is roster construction and related rules... which basically has always changed, so why not change those to whatever you need rather than the rules of actual gameplay?

That was my exact thought. It sucks, but hopefully Jimmy can run some point and Grant/MCW can be a non-disaster for a few minutes at a time. Yea, I think you gotta just ride Jimmy, and then like Wade said, go to him when you ride Jimmy as far as you can.

Wtf at the Bulls being the most entertaining team in Chicago right now. As an NFL draft junkie I'd normally even count the Bears having the third pick as more interesting than the Bulls as an 8th seed in the playoffs.

For as many flaws as this team was built with, that was kind of always their path, with Portis last night playing the stretch 4 role envisioned from Mirotic.

I haven't read much rumor mill stuff, so I don't know what to expect, but those are all bad reasons, generally, for not taking a QB and Derwood's pitcher analogy makes zero sense.

I think this Bulls team needs a major overhaul, including the front office. I think that's less likely to happen if they make the playoffs. It's admittedly probably unlikely in either case, to be fair, but I still think missing the playoffs provides the best opportunity for that. Yeah everything I've read suggests that there is no way GarPax or Fred is gone after this year. And like I said in my last post, making the playoffs is unlikely to change the perception of this team. Everyone knows the team sucks, lacks talent, fits together awkwardly and is depressing to watch and follow. If you take the pessemist view, playoffs this year is two playoff revenue games closer to keeping their jobs, I guess? I don't think it makes a difference for this year, but a year from now, "third straight missed playoffs" is maybe more impactful in bringing about change?

I'm just really bullish on the improvement that Russell made from year one to two and think he will stay at the premium defensive position. Might not matter though with the way Bryant hits. I was just poking at the language/math of saying Russell would be the "best one of the three" when he was not one of the three to begin with. "Rizzo's Song" is going to be a real tear jerker.

I didn't say Pace is trying to be Theo (football people almost across the board think everybody involved in baseball are pu$$!&$). I said maybe the McCaskeys think he's a Theo, and because of that they are willing to lose in the short-term and give him time. Pace doesn't want to lose 95 games and draft in the top 3. He wants to win games while he's building but what he most wants to do is take the BPA in as many drafts as possible, while letting older players go elsewhere. He lost a hell of a lot more than the baseball equivalent of 95. If he's trying to win, we're really in trouble. And I swear I'd be more comfortable with the Bears if they gave Pace's job to Theo and he GM'd football while taking his morning poop and walk home from his real job. I can excuse the first two years to a large extent. 2015 was a legitimate reset year from the turmoil of 2014, and they still managed to improve by a game. Last year sucked, but maybe was kinda fluky with injuries and just the wring side of close games (PFR put their estimate at 4.8-11.2). 2017 he doesn't get to claim improvement from a 3-13 team though. He has to make the entire case for those three years, and basically pick up from where they should have been. Hard to imagine a scenario where he has another draft like last year and they aren't a .500 team. I guess they have a tough schedule...? You could probably make a pretty simple grading scale for Pace solely based on record; 12 A 11 A- 10 B 9 B- 8 C 7 C- 6 D 5 F

If we take the view that maybe Pace is purposefully being bad/taking time, I'm not sure how well he is carrying out that strategy in terms of long term development. Why was Jay around at all last year, for instance? Why wasn't he more active trying to capitalize Alshons value? If hes trying to be Theo, he isnt going full tilt on it. That would be the Browns.

Jerry Angelo looks like a genius nowadays. :? Even against the comparison of 9-23, I'll hold off the genius talk. That said, he understood the importance of impact players and he actually closed on getting some.
