  1. I don't know about that. Fangio likes to put his corners on islands so he can dial up creative blitzes. At least, that's what he'd like to do. Bouye is the better fit for that. Isn't that the coverage scheme Gilmore has mostly ran under Pettine/Ryan defenses?
  2. DeSean Jackson to Bucs, so take away Tampa as a Jeffery suitor (though maybe WAS would now be interested as the look set to lose Garcon too)
  3. Isn't Gilmore the better scheme fit? I know they had interest in Boyue last year, but that was at minimal salary. They have interest this year, reportedly. Look a few posts up. Yea I know, but I mean I think they preferred Gilmore, presumably because scheme fit... before it didnt go well.

  5. is 13 drops in 6 games even a relatively high total? i'm thinking it is, but obviously it's not like you just turn them all into completions. Yea, seems kind of pointless to add back in drops. Besides, did he see the Bears WRs last year? Our QB is going to have to overcome some drops lol.
  6. Well you could cherry pick stats to support either, probably. But I'd personally favor the stats that favor Glennon plus the fact that he could improve from what he was as a rookie and second year guy verse a now over 30 Hoyer who probably isn't getting better. I've also seen enough of Hoyer to not like his game much. Cant say the same for Glennon, to be fair.
  7. Honestly if Romo goes to Denver, I think Jay winds up in Houston or Miami. Based on things I've read, he'll probably retire before going to NYJ or Cleveland. The market has worked out pretty well for him. Taylor is staying in Buffalo, Garropolo likely staying in NE, Glennon probably to Chicago. You're basically down to Romo, Cutler, Kaepernick, and Fitzpatrick. And I'm pretty sure Jay will have priority over the latter two. If Cutler ends up in Houston, I'm definitely adopting them next year as my second team.
  8. There is no outcome on the bell curve where you can build around Glennon. Theres like 6 QBs in the game like that. The optimistic end is that he is a borderline top 1/3 QB, and can go far with him and a talented D and good supporting cast.... like a prime Flacco. so he can or cannot be elite? Exactly

  10. I kind of doubt that. McCaskey has always been a big Cutler fan. I'm kind of where David is at. I don't view Glennon as a mere stop gap. I think he could conceivably adequately fill the roll for a few years. And being younger than Cutler, there is a past/future argument thst could be made. With Taylor not hitting the market, he is also probably the best vet option for this team. That said, it is critical that the Bears stop treating the position as one that only requires major investment once a decade. If for some reason Glennon precludes a serious investment in a young signal caller (whereas say Hoyer wouldn't have) I'd be very upset. Would I have loved to keep Cutler? Yes, because I love Cutler, but I suppose I just accepted long ago he wasnt going to be back. Contract will be interesting to see. Sounds like 3/45 or so. If I was a betting man, I'll say its heavily front loaded with a 2017 roster bonus and can be walked away from without much pain after year one. 3/42 with up to 6M in incentives and 18M guaranteed. I'll take that hypothetical deal over Hoyer at any cost FWIW.

  12. If we arent sold on a QB at 3 a trade down would be pretty apealing for the right price. I would LOVE to trade down. I just don't see a team trading up to 3. What are they moving up FOR? Fournette is one popular trade up theory I've seen. One of the QBs could be another posibility.

  14. My official thoughts I'm OK if they bring back Hoyer. I'd be happy with Harmon. The draft is loaded with TE's, I think I prefer that route. Stills is young, but I think I'm a "no" on him. I like Cordarelle enough as a returner to put up with him as a 3/4 WR. I guess Holmes is a ST guy too, but I don't know enough about him. I'm in the acceptance stage with Hoyer, but if he is the presumed starter (no Watson/Trubisky @3), I might just watch the Bears defense on Sundays.

  16. Remember when Lovie showed up at Peppers front door at midnight because FA officially opened? It will be like that except a tweet from Ian Rappaport at 4 EST that Glennon is headed to the Bears on a 3 year deal. :?
  17. Correct. No pen to paper, but we may get verbal agreements.
  18. Emery's problem is that he is crappy at identifying talent, not that he went after guys he liked. I'm pretty sure McLellin was the top guy on his board when he picked him. GM's reach for people all the time based on who they like and who will be there when they pick next. Optimally, you want to get the guy you like, where they're slotted, but most settle for who they want. Trying to determine if a guy was best on a GMs board is a project in vain because draft boards vary so much. (This goes for Angelo or Emery) Retrospectively with Emery, he seemed to be a very process oriented guy, which is only a good thing if you have the right process in place. He seems like a decent scout, but was obviously a poor GM. Angelo... obviously had some early hits and then not only failed to follow up on that success, but also systematically devalued the draft and develepment pipeline.
  19. 40 times are an incredibly stupid way to judge players. Who cares how fast they can run in a straight line with no pads? Because generally, the faster they run in a straight line with no pads, the faster they play. And it's not like there's no film on Lattimore, the fact that he possesses world class speed indicates he can keep up with receivers in addition to having instincts. Obviously Lattimore is a top prospect as is, but not sure he's top 5 pick, 40 time or not. FWIW, in regards to the discussion; Top 25 CBs in 2016 per PFF (*Indicates estimate or non-combine time) Player 40Time PFF Score '16 Aqib Talib 4.44 90 Malcolm Butler 4.6* 86 Chris Harris Jr. 4.48 87 Terence Newman 4.37 85 Patrick Peterson 4.31 84 Janoris Jenkins 4.41 84 AJ Bouye 4.55* 87 Casey Hayward 4.47 84 Morris Claiborne 4.50 84 Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie 4.29 84 Josh Norman 4.61 83 Sean Smith 4.50 84 David Amerson 4.44 83 Xavier Rhodes 4.43 81 Brent Grimes 4.57* 83 Marcus Peters 4.53 81 Richard Sherman 4.54 78 Brandon Carr 4.44* 81 Darius Slay 4.36 82 Tramaine Brock 4.4* 82 Lamarcus Joyner 4.55 82 James Bradberry 4.50 80 Captain Munnerlyn 4.51 81 Byron Maxwell 4.43 79 Prince Amukamara 4.38 81 Average 4.46 Mid 4.4s is probably the consensus of what you want to see from a top CB prospect. But it certainly shouldn't move a guy too much, and I'm always much more interested in 40 times next to the other athletic tests, like the shuttle.
  20. I might as well round out the metra area and take back-to-back picks for efficiency sake. Racial Slurs for me.
  21. With Glennon, I guess I can at least rationalize he is younger. His career is probably a average year cutler performance. So for a little bit extra commitment maybe he projects to provide more value than Cutler (assumimg he gets about 15 m AAV). I don't love it, but can at least rationalize that outcome, though I don't know what odds to throw at it actually being the case. They have to start seriously investing resources into the position either way though. So whether its Glennon + pick or Cutler + pick, they should have a plan to finally put some resources into finding a QB, and a wide net in the search.
  22. Except it's still completely possible yes, completely possible isn't a fait accompli as many have treated it following tag decision. If people thought he could be tagged again, they were wrong too though. I didnt realize people actually thought there was a chance. Its been almost certain since they missed the extension deadline last summer that he would hit FA.

  25. This team would win 70 games if they only played top 5 teams. ETA- Also 18 straight home wins on TNT.
