Also, I guess alignment/scheme is really all that matters. Willie Young is listed as a LB and lines up on the outside, but often with his hand in the dirt. Probably drops into coverage less than the other guys listed as LB. Maybe RRH is whatever that position is? Leonard Floyd plays a similar role but standing up mostly. :dontknow:

Agreed you don't want those guys as your 4th LB. They are basically STers. I have a suspicion they are high on Roy Robertson-Harris and he'll compete for that 4th spot with Houston. Its the only explanation for the lack of offseason activity at OLB considering the depth and injury history of those spots. Last I heard, Robertson-Harris has put on some weight (to about 285) and will compete at DE. Of course, he's still listed at 268 and a LB on the website. Houston is listed at 274 and 6'3". McPhee 273 and 6'3". RRH is listed at 6'7", so even at 285 thats a thinner frame than those two, and probably not far off Young at 6'4" 258.

Houston has made it this far, he probably stays. The Bears don't really have a young OLB that they are desperate to get on the field. If he doesn't make the team, you're looking at Dan Skuta and Sam Acho fighting it out for the 4th guy in the OLB rotation. Agreed you don't want those guys as your 4th LB. They are basically STers. Royal, Sutton, Lasikw, & Edison, get the axe. No big surprises, except maybe that Houston didn't. Might keep him thru camp and let him compete.

I'm allowed to love Jay Cutler whilst realizing he was a mostly average QB. Don't try to make it an either or. He was still just about the only exciting reason to waste three hours of my Sundays on this sad sack of a franchise in the past 3 years.

i mean, in the NFL, that's probably a good baseline, especially considering it's a good baseline in the world in general On the other hand Jay's unvaccinated kids might introduce a measles pandemic.

I haven't seen much film on Darnold, so I can't really speak to his footwork or pocket awareness, but the hype seems to be regarding his physical tools. It sounds that his throwing motion may have to be rebuilt as well. Does he hang in the pocket as well as Trubisky, does he escape only after his receivers have had a chance to get open or when he's in imminent peril? Does he slide instead of scamper? Does he have the vision to throw receivers open? does he keep his feet under him? When his eyes move, can he keep his feet still? these are all things that Trubisky does well and set him apart from the rest of his draft class. he's not a freak from any kind of physical perspective, like Darnold is, but he's able to do most of the things that translate well to the NFL. does Darnold show these traits? I don't know. Lets say he has all those things. I can think of two or three recent guys who had those things and were pretty favorably ranked as top picks.... and returned for another year of eligibility. The whole idea is putting a bunch of hope in a relative unknown where the variables are wide ranging. All to fly in the face of whats known now because the opportunity later could be better. I actually think the next Luck could be sitting there and a sizable portion of Bears fans would talk themselves out of it because the prospect of some future unknown is more appealing to them than the chance of striking out on a QB.

and NFL GMs are dumb meatballs. No one will sign Kaepernick, either. That's just so asinine. The jersey as kindling jersey sales boom is practically enough to justify the cost of Kapernick. I think both guys are just in a weird spot. Just talented enough to justify decent money. Just polarizing enough to scare off GMs who only see the downside to their job security.

Actually maybe Jay being good at this new job is good. It makes his past defiance/apathy towatds these shmucks even sweeter.

It is a deeper class next year. Sam Darnold, all of 9 starts under his belt, does look like the next big thing, and if you tried would struggle to be in a spot to grab him. Josh Rosen looks talented, but just missed half of this season's campaign to injury and apparently has off field concerns. Josh Allen, one season against subpar competition. However unsure anyone feels about Trubisky and lack of experience, you should feel approximately 100 times less sure of Allen. Those are probably the consensus top 3, then you have Falk, Browning, Rudolph, Jackson in the next teir and then several more amongst the teir after. But overall, while definitely a deep group, other than the guy with 366 passes and THREE remaining years of eligibility, none of these guys look like anything that wasn't available this draft or the previous one, just a bit deeper perhaps. But on top of that analysis, whether you want to quibble with the above or whatever, all that still really matters is ; Was Trubisky worth what we paid for him now? If the rest of the 2017 class would be third rounders next year, all that really matters still is how Trubiksy ranks now.

Yeah, who would want a QB next year, what with that class being universally considered to be far better than this year? Oh, I didnt realize you got to draft a class of quarterbacks, thought you only got one. Good to know.

Just going off the "traditional" trade chart, that doesnt get close. Represents about 80% value of what it needs to. Based off an analytical model, its like 80% excess value... So analytics say you run with that, but as a market participant you're kind of leaving "easy" value on the table... kind of an intetesting. Personally at that high in the draft, I'd say stick to market values/trends. Use the analytical model to get deals later on. I realized that as well. But I don't know, how well has that chart held up for the most recent major trade-ups on draft day? Genuinely curious. I had a vague sense of liking Trubisky after reading about him going back a couple months and am perfectly happy with him going forward. I remain highly skeptical of Pace's ability to surround Trubisky with a good team, which is how Seattle and Dallas helped their young guys succeed so early. And I really don't think Fox is the right head coach to develop the guy. I'm just going to treat 2017 as no expectations, expect fun bad (holy crap if butt fumble plays a lot, can you imagine?). Will Fox go off script and demand Mitch play early on at the first sign of Glennon being Glennon? Everybody is playing nice now, but there is high probability of things getting ugly between Pace, Fox, Dowell, Glennon and Trubisky and this doesn't even take into account the potential for offense vs defense mutiny. I'd put my money on Vic surviving that battle. Yea, low expectations is definitely true. And I get sunday tickey free this fall, so I'm adopting Houston as my fun-good team (hopefully), and I still get to go all meatball for Watson.

Thanks At some point in the offseason I began flirting with Trubisky as my top QB prospect before reverting back to Watson, but I really cant kick the feeling I'm just fighting with my inner meatball and Trubisky is the clear better prospect and I should be as excited for Trubisky as I would have been for Watson.
