Counting on Meredith to be a legit 1 based on partial season production was already a risk, but then zero other decent receivers was insane. When you intentionally go with no depth you can't blame injuries for ruining a season. Agreed. The only way this was going to be a good WR group, even with health, was a breakout Kevin White. Wheaton and Wright were decent "upside on a slot receiver" gambles, but it was never really enough. Health (projecting what a healthy White and Wheaton look like) make this, what a bottom third WR group as opposed to the worst WR corps in the league?

Might as well just reach an injury settlement with him and go find some other young fringe WR that we can try to strike lighting in a bottle with.

Special teams. but thompson was the main return guy, so it's gotta be more about them just not liking what he brings to the table than just being useful on special teams. Thompson was a KR, but Bellamy plays on most the special teams units I think. They have other guys like Cunningham who can catch a kick and kneel 80% of the time.

The idea that somebody would want to watch a playoff game after it happens is crazy to me. I've DVRd some games, especially when my kids were younger and putting them to bed interfered with the start. So I could catch up what was happening and not miss anything. But when the game is over, if I missed it, just tell me the score. This is so weird. I couldn't even begin to comprehend the change to routine I'd need to watch a game 24 hours after it happened with no spoilers. Just realized this is about the Bears game. are you stopping yourself from watching both? I'm guessing he's assuming he'll be able to watch the Cubs on TV before the hockey game, since the Yankees are expected to get the late slot. But yeah, if the games overlap, I'm going to try to avoid the Bears game updates so that I can watch as soon as I get home, but I don't think I'll be able to. Well the hockey game is part of a larger trip that was planned in advance of the schedule being set. But I am actually pretty pumped to watch the game in Toronto. Yea, I may be able to catch some of the Cubs game live but it's also just likely to be harder to ignore, even during the hockey game if it overlaps. Also I do have a weird logic with playoff games sometimes in that I figure I'll either a. have more important games to watch later or b. That was it and I saved some elimination heartache. I especially feel this way for early round playoff games. Not that i miss them on purpose, but dont go crazy with other obligations. As for why I care at all about the Bears. I just was looking forward to fully immersing myself in the rookie QB hype train. Some vague game outcome of the game wouldn't spoil it as much as having anything in detail about Trubisky's performance. But to that point, seeing a final score of like 41-3 would deflate some of the excitement and buildup.

So I'm gonna be in Toronto on Monday night, watching the Hawks-Maple Leafs. Driving back 8 hours on Tuesday morning. So can I make it almost 24 hours without spoiling the game and getting home Tuesday afternoon and watch the DVR? I think I can stop myself from looking, but making sure I kill all phone notifications will be tough.

The problem with your argument is that it's possible that some superteam wins 100+ games and the second place team (WC#1) in that division wins like 98-99 games. That second place team is clearly the second best team in the league. Their win total is higher than the other two division leaders... What I'm describing is basically what happened in 2015. The Cubs, Pirates and Cardinals were probably the 3 best teams in the NL that year. A shame they all play in the same division. Look, the WC teams should be penalized, but in some years the WC teams are legitimately good to great teams that deserve better than a single elimination game. Since divisions promote an unbalanced schedule you can't exactly say that even by win total that's the case. The point of the regular season is to win your division.

Also one game may be random, but it's not unfair. Both teams have an equal chance.

That's dumb. Sports isn't just about pure entertainment. Why did the NBA expand to a 7 game series for every round? There are fewer upsets now in the first round because of it. I'd say that's more fair to the better teams in the NBA. Yes, entertainment is the primary goal, but fans also care about fairness and rewarding the best teams/players. That's why we complain about horsefeathers umpires and why educated fans want an automated strike zone that will be more accurate and more fair in calling balls/strikes. Fairness is somewhat of an abstract concept (I get it), but it's an important part of sports whether you want to admit it or not. Winning your division is a fair way to get more than a 1 game play in.

This is terrible sciencing. Peyton Manning played 7,000 games in college and was as prepared to play from Day 1 in the NFL than anybody in history. What drives me crazy is people being apoplectic when you say you prefer a guy with limited college playing time to at least sit for a while to start his pro career. I think starting Mitch from week 1 would have been a mistake. I think starting him now is the right decision. I mean he is right in that hanging your hat on a couple andectodes is a terrible way to do it.

Yea it's pretty astonishing. I am going to go with the mentally weak theory and this whole QB at no 2 thing irrevocably fucked him up. We'll cut him in the off-season and he'll go onto have an illustrious backup career where he doesn't feel any pressure and actually serves that steady stop gap type play.

I had a pretty long post about it in last week's game thread. I think the bad habit thing is the only one that carried any validity, but for various reasons I am not worried about with Trubisky (but would worry for instance with DeShaun Watson right now).
