    Doubtful. Edmonds will be here, suck, and be gone in less time than it took for the Roberts thing to finally wind down. Holy crap, you were actually able to decipher that? It took me till 3 hours after the first time I read that to realize what that meant.

    That's really not how things work in baseball. But yea, we'll probably lose anyways, because it's Peavy. I wonder if the rain had anything to do with why they didn't Estes, like maybe visibility was messed up, because nobody hit after it started raining. I mean there has to be a reason why one of the best offenses in baseball didn't hit Shawn Estes. Not everything can be reasoned. There's a lot of luck involved in baseball.

If any of you don't know what ERA+ or WHIPs are and whether it's better to have high ones or low ones (I doubt it but maybe), you should be able to figure it out by looking at these two guys.

    I have to think Marquis will get 1 more start after this one at the very least. If they had wanted to bring Hill up this week, they wouldn't be starting Gallagher on Friday. Marshall isn't fully ready quite yet from stretching out. Lieber just got demoted, so Lou isn't likely to throw him in there in place of Marquis. So I think Marquis will start today and Sunday. If Gallagher and Hill pitch well and Marquis pitches poorly, he might be gone. If Marquis pitches ok, and Gallagher pitches ok, I think Gallagher will be the one taken out when Hill comes back. Liebs got demoted? Yea, he's been named the long man this week. Gallagher will probably start in what would've been his spot on Friday.

    I'd honestly be all for a 90% night game home schedule. For one thing, it's easier to watch them. Plus, I just have a lot more fun attending them.

    Don't worry guys. Edmonds will really break out of it with the Cubs because he wants to stick it to the Cards so bad. Just like Mark Grace and stuff.

    And Edmonds is the past. Seriously, if Edmonds isn't going to hit much better than Pie (if at all, and he certainly isn't going to field better), what in the hell is the point of playing the guy who doesn't have any upside vs the guy who does? Not to mention the fact that one of them is your 23 year old prized prospect and the other is a 38 year old who the fans hate and is being picked up off the scrap heap.

    Sad thing is, Soriano could move into true superstar territory if he could get the hang of this stuff. With his talent, he'd be an elite hitter. Then again, maybe he just doesn't have the ability to read pitches well enough...

    So... since the players have covered for Lou's mistakes, he's excused for all of them? its easy to "arm chair" manage.....lous record this year, and over his career show that he knows what he is doing...im not trying to be mean, but hey, a win is a win, and if the cubs are in first, to me, im happy about it.....thats all im saying..... I'm not trying, at all, to say that Lou is as bad as Dusty was, but do you realize that that is basically the same argument people were using in defense of Dusty toward the beginning of his tenure here? It's an extremely flawed argument.

    If that's the game at Cincy, I was there. I had to drive back and write a paper for one class on my laptop on the way back. Oh, and I also had a speech to give in a different class the next morning. I wound up just dropping the class that I had to write the paper for.

    The Cards schedule looks sickeningly easy until mid June when they start a stretch where they have to face Philly, Boston, and Detroit. Then again, the Pirates have been pretty good when not facing us.

    I don't know if you noticed, but he's basically come by and done just the opposite of that.

    Criticize Lou all you want, but this wouldn't be happening under Dusty Baker. Being better at Dusty in teaching patience at the plate isn't all that impressive. Oh, and I credit Perry more than Lou for this particular change. It's really not about being better at it when in reality Dusty is preaching the exact opposite. Lou does some dumb things, but Dusty is just a really, really, REALLY horrible manager.

    Has anyone noticed that funny way Theriot walks/runs? I can't really describe it, but it was funny because I'm pretty sure his son does it exactly the same way. When I was watching Cubs Forever, they showed some little kid running in the outfield and I'm like, "Hey, that kid runs like Theriot!" He turns around, and lo and behold, he's got a Theriot jersey on.

    So Lou does have wireless internet in the dugout. Gave me an interesting thought. At what point do we see the managers/coaching staffs with laptops in the dugout giving them all kinds of updated stats/charts and when do we stop seeing those big stupid binders? What a waste of paper, actually.

Not alive in 2004? I think this team is a smidge better. I have a hard time saying that given how good that starting pitching should've been (had it not been for the injuries) and how good it actually was getting later in the season. I do far prefer this team's offensive approach, however.

    This is the same board that said a one-pitch flyout by Lee was better than a seven-pitch strikeout by Theriot, so I'm sure Lee did the right thing. Yea, I'm sure that's EXACTLY what was said.

    The sad thing is, he's going to make some routine play look ridiculously hard (but in a pretty way) and my dad (he's 77) is gonna think he's good. My dad is too old to argue with over such things.

    Lefty starter. No Pie, for once, makes sense. I'm all for throwing Pie at EVERY starter every day and having him learn thru trial and error. Let the kid play man, stunting his growth and delaying it on the bench does nothing. Meh, I don't see him ever learning to hit lefties at the major league level. Most lefties probably shouldn't face lefties, but when they're really good players overall, they won't be platooned for. Doesn't mean they shouldn't be. I'm not saying there aren't exceptions, but I'm generally in favor of platooning for lefties. And it's not really a big deal either, since a good majority of starting pitchers are righties. Unfortunately, Lou isn't even giving Pie his PAs vs. righties. And he's about to start giving them to a 38 year old with nothing left in the tank.

    Lefty starter. No Pie, for once, makes sense. jim edmonds will face a lot of lefty starters, book it I doubt it.
