  1. Because the two points aren't mutually exclusive?
  2. And Edmonds is the past. Seriously, if Edmonds isn't going to hit much better than Pie (if at all, and he certainly isn't going to field better), what in the hell is the point of playing the guy who doesn't have any upside vs the guy who does? Not to mention the fact that one of them is your 23 year old prized prospect and the other is a 38 year old who the fans hate and is being picked up off the scrap heap.
  3. Sad thing is, Soriano could move into true superstar territory if he could get the hang of this stuff. With his talent, he'd be an elite hitter. Then again, maybe he just doesn't have the ability to read pitches well enough...
  4. So... since the players have covered for Lou's mistakes, he's excused for all of them? its easy to "arm chair" manage.....lous record this year, and over his career show that he knows what he is doing...im not trying to be mean, but hey, a win is a win, and if the cubs are in first, to me, im happy about it.....thats all im saying..... I'm not trying, at all, to say that Lou is as bad as Dusty was, but do you realize that that is basically the same argument people were using in defense of Dusty toward the beginning of his tenure here? It's an extremely flawed argument.
  5. If that's the game at Cincy, I was there. I had to drive back and write a paper for one class on my laptop on the way back. Oh, and I also had a speech to give in a different class the next morning. I wound up just dropping the class that I had to write the paper for.
  6. The Cards schedule looks sickeningly easy until mid June when they start a stretch where they have to face Philly, Boston, and Detroit. Then again, the Pirates have been pretty good when not facing us.
  7. I don't know if you noticed, but he's basically come by and done just the opposite of that.
  8. Criticize Lou all you want, but this wouldn't be happening under Dusty Baker. Being better at Dusty in teaching patience at the plate isn't all that impressive. Oh, and I credit Perry more than Lou for this particular change. It's really not about being better at it when in reality Dusty is preaching the exact opposite. Lou does some dumb things, but Dusty is just a really, really, REALLY horrible manager.
  9. I hope I don't have to start a game thread for a while. How about not till the next road trip?
  10. Has anyone noticed that funny way Theriot walks/runs? I can't really describe it, but it was funny because I'm pretty sure his son does it exactly the same way. When I was watching Cubs Forever, they showed some little kid running in the outfield and I'm like, "Hey, that kid runs like Theriot!" He turns around, and lo and behold, he's got a Theriot jersey on.
  11. So Lou does have wireless internet in the dugout. Gave me an interesting thought. At what point do we see the managers/coaching staffs with laptops in the dugout giving them all kinds of updated stats/charts and when do we stop seeing those big stupid binders? What a waste of paper, actually.
  12. http://www.suntimes.com/sports/baseball/cubs/945598,edmonds051208.article :banghead: This team is the best Cubs team of my lifetime, and they are making it so freaking hard to root for them. Not alive in 2004? I think this team is a smidge better. I have a hard time saying that given how good that starting pitching should've been (had it not been for the injuries) and how good it actually was getting later in the season. I do far prefer this team's offensive approach, however.

  14. This is the same board that said a one-pitch flyout by Lee was better than a seven-pitch strikeout by Theriot, so I'm sure Lee did the right thing. Yea, I'm sure that's EXACTLY what was said.
  15. The sad thing is, he's going to make some routine play look ridiculously hard (but in a pretty way) and my dad (he's 77) is gonna think he's good. My dad is too old to argue with over such things.
  16. Lefty starter. No Pie, for once, makes sense. I'm all for throwing Pie at EVERY starter every day and having him learn thru trial and error. Let the kid play man, stunting his growth and delaying it on the bench does nothing. Meh, I don't see him ever learning to hit lefties at the major league level. Most lefties probably shouldn't face lefties, but when they're really good players overall, they won't be platooned for. Doesn't mean they shouldn't be. I'm not saying there aren't exceptions, but I'm generally in favor of platooning for lefties. And it's not really a big deal either, since a good majority of starting pitchers are righties. Unfortunately, Lou isn't even giving Pie his PAs vs. righties. And he's about to start giving them to a 38 year old with nothing left in the tank.
  17. Lefty starter. No Pie, for once, makes sense. jim edmonds will face a lot of lefty starters, book it I doubt it.
  18. Not all that close at all. McGriff was having one of the best seasons of his career when we got him... Yea, it was an old guy blocking Hee Seop, but that's where the comparison ends, especially since guys like Ron Coomer and Matt Stairs were getting the playing time at 1B. McGriff coming was a welcome change.
  19. The sad thing is that if Edmonds manages the numbers he did against righties last year, there's no way he would lose the job. .268/.336/.419 would probably be just not bad enough to warrant benching/releasing a veteran like Edmonds, in Lou's mind. We'd have to hope for him to continue what he was doing in SD if we wanted this to end quickly.
  20. So, what happened to vance's All Star voting campaign sticky thread?
  21. Are you thinking of Blueheart or whatever who had that giant pic of herself in her av a few years ago, maybe?
  22. Birth Date December 30, 1985
  23. Would you rather have Marmol coming in to a 9th inning with nobody on, nobody out and a lead between 1-3 runs or would you rather have him come in, say, in the 7th in a tie game with 2 on and nobody out. So called "setup" men are very often coming in in more difficult situations than closers face.
  24. Okay maybe I missed somethin but when you said "Mr. Gallagher, please pass on to Sean my congrats for the outstanding work today." What was that all about? Was it a typo or was that directed towards Sean Gallagher's father? Or maybe Sean G. has a split personality that we're just finding out about. Anyway, that part of your post didn't make any sense. It was directed toward his father. His father is a member here and posted earlier in this thread under the handle peoriachiefs39.
