  1. I couldn't really care less about these "rivalries" beyond the friendly back and forth joking/ribbing that they bring between fans when you go to those particular games. Do people actually "hate" the Cardinals? Really?
  2. Yea, I figured Soto was getting a day off. Hopefully that's the explanation for that lineup (if there is any)
  3. According to both WSCR and ESPN1000, Edmonds is hitting 6th in the lineup today, and Fukudome is still 5th. I'm guessing/hoping they're giving Soto a day off and that's why it is what it is.
  4. Give DeRo the start at 1st, move Riot to 2nd and start Cedeno at SS. Might as well keep it realistic and just hope that Cedeno starts at 2B in that scenario.
  5. Aren't the Cardinals still paying him some money? I thought they had to eat some salary in that trade. So, if by some miracle he's a solid contributor to this lineup, it's a good way to stick it to the Cards. I honestly don't hate the deal if only because of the same thing everyone else has said. Pie likely wasn't going to play anyway, so I'd rather see Edmonds take the PAs against righties than Reed. Oh, and I remember like 8 years ago when I really, really wanted the Cubs to trade for him.
  6. Future HOFer Gregory Alan Maddux http://assets.espn.go.com/i/mlb/profiles/players/65x90/3933.jpg 107 ERA+ 1.160 WHIP faces off against Ryan Scott Dempster http://assets.espn.go.com/i/mlb/profiles/players/65x90/6006.jpg 161 ERA+ 1.061 WHIP as the Cubs likely welcome this guy into their lineup... http://reds.enquirer.com/2003/08/31/edmonds_zoom.jpg Let's hope they catch lightning in a bottle.
  7. loooool Soriano... I'm just at a loss for words for how ridiculous this is... How can somebody be this off/on?
  8. LOL if we're going to beat Peavy, it's gonna have to be like this.
  9. I think he was in Chicago taking a physical already when they reported the signing. Not sure, though.
  10. Well, we all hated Dennis Rodman as well, but that actually worked out okay, didn't it? Everyone needs to relax a bit. If he sucks, he won't play, but I'm sure the Wrigley faithful will rise and cheer the first time he pulls a premature dive to catch a ball or he starts hitting. In the end, it's $284K and a low-risk, maybe good reward move. What a horrible analogy.. Rodman didn't suck donkey balls when he came to Chicago.. He was a great player.. Theres the difference. Edmonds is 38 years old and FINISHED.. What a disaster. Eh, Rodman was looked at as a huge malcontent and not someone who could necessarily contribute much to a winning team at the time. The Spurs wanted him gone so badly that they traded him for Will Purdue. He was still rebounding and defending like a beast, though, but the move didn't come without a lot of drama beforehand. That said, I don't think the situations are very comparable at all because I don't believe Edmonds has even a little bit left in the tank.
  11. I highly doubt the part about Johnson in LF and Fontenot at 2B, but yea.
  12. Can people stop saying this is a low risk move? If he comes in and stinks up the joint, and causes the Cubs to lose games, that sounds pretty high risk if you ask me. Divisions can be decided by 1 or 2 games over the course of 162. Every game is precious. Honestly, he's not going to suck any more than Felix Pie would or Reed Johnson vs. righthanders would, so I would think that qualifies as "low risk". Jim Edmonds will have very little to do with the Cubs winning or losing games unless Lou foolishly bats him in the first 5 slots in the order. The problem is, you could get very similar production from Pie while developing him and giving him big league at bats. If the Cubs are getting bad at bats, they might as well come from someone who isn't 38 years old and on the downside of their career. He will. He's probably going to bat him 5th and move Fuku to the 2 spot. Not that order necessarily means a whole lot, but the logic (breaking up the righties) is pretty absurd when you're putting what presently amounts to an automatic out that high in the lineup.
  13. Can people stop saying this is a low risk move? If he comes in and stinks up the joint, and causes the Cubs to lose games, that sounds pretty high risk if you ask me. Divisions can be decided by 1 or 2 games over the course of 162. Every game is precious. When the alternative is Reed Johnson, it really is pretty much a low-risk move. Even Pie wasn't likely to perform all that much better, but the point is he has upside and is young enough to have a future. But he wasn't going to play anyway. It's not signing Edmonds that we should be mad about so much as it is not playing Pie. Pie wasn't playing either way and Edmonds is probably a better option than playing Johnson vs. RHPs.
  14. I doubt that really matters much to him. I doubt he has a lot of job offers, especially to play almost everyday for a first place team.
  15. Doubtful. Edmonds will be here, suck, and be gone in less time than it took for the Roberts thing to finally wind down. Holy crap, you were actually able to decipher that? It took me till 3 hours after the first time I read that to realize what that meant.
  16. That's really not how things work in baseball. But yea, we'll probably lose anyways, because it's Peavy. I wonder if the rain had anything to do with why they didn't Estes, like maybe visibility was messed up, because nobody hit after it started raining. I mean there has to be a reason why one of the best offenses in baseball didn't hit Shawn Estes. Not everything can be reasoned. There's a lot of luck involved in baseball.

  18. Jacob Edward Peavy http://assets.espn.go.com/i/mlb/profiles/players/65x90/6872.jpg 155 ERA+ 1.079 WHIP will face (and likely beat) Theodore Roosevelt Lilly http://assets.espn.go.com/i/mlb/profiles/players/65x90/6223.jpg 84 ERA+ 1.299 WHIP in the start of what figures to be a short stint as game thread starter for me. If any of you don't know what ERA+ or WHIPs are and whether it's better to have high ones or low ones (I doubt it but maybe), you should be able to figure it out by looking at these two guys.
  19. I have to think Marquis will get 1 more start after this one at the very least. If they had wanted to bring Hill up this week, they wouldn't be starting Gallagher on Friday. Marshall isn't fully ready quite yet from stretching out. Lieber just got demoted, so Lou isn't likely to throw him in there in place of Marquis. So I think Marquis will start today and Sunday. If Gallagher and Hill pitch well and Marquis pitches poorly, he might be gone. If Marquis pitches ok, and Gallagher pitches ok, I think Gallagher will be the one taken out when Hill comes back. Liebs got demoted? Yea, he's been named the long man this week. Gallagher will probably start in what would've been his spot on Friday.
  20. I'd honestly be all for a 90% night game home schedule. For one thing, it's easier to watch them. Plus, I just have a lot more fun attending them.
  21. Don't worry guys. Edmonds will really break out of it with the Cubs because he wants to stick it to the Cards so bad. Just like Mark Grace and stuff.
