  1. Not all that close at all. McGriff was having one of the best seasons of his career when we got him... Yea, it was an old guy blocking Hee Seop, but that's where the comparison ends, especially since guys like Ron Coomer and Matt Stairs were getting the playing time at 1B. McGriff coming was a welcome change.
  2. The sad thing is that if Edmonds manages the numbers he did against righties last year, there's no way he would lose the job. .268/.336/.419 would probably be just not bad enough to warrant benching/releasing a veteran like Edmonds, in Lou's mind. We'd have to hope for him to continue what he was doing in SD if we wanted this to end quickly.
  3. So, what happened to vance's All Star voting campaign sticky thread?
  4. Are you thinking of Blueheart or whatever who had that giant pic of herself in her av a few years ago, maybe?
  5. Birth Date December 30, 1985
  6. Would you rather have Marmol coming in to a 9th inning with nobody on, nobody out and a lead between 1-3 runs or would you rather have him come in, say, in the 7th in a tie game with 2 on and nobody out. So called "setup" men are very often coming in in more difficult situations than closers face.
  7. Okay maybe I missed somethin but when you said "Mr. Gallagher, please pass on to Sean my congrats for the outstanding work today." What was that all about? Was it a typo or was that directed towards Sean Gallagher's father? Or maybe Sean G. has a split personality that we're just finding out about. Anyway, that part of your post didn't make any sense. It was directed toward his father. His father is a member here and posted earlier in this thread under the handle peoriachiefs39.
  8. No, that's actually exactly what they're basing it on. A lot of people (idiots) continue to think that Aramis was a gutless choking dog when Lee got hurt because he got off to a slow start in 06 before turning it on toward the second half.
  9. Facing Randy Johnson really wouldn't have been all that bad.
  10. I'm guessing Lou just figures that it's a good time to give him a day off vs. Randy Johnson.
  11. Cubs win! Way to unnecessarily bring a negative to an otherwise perfect day, Lou.
  12. And on top of it... he brings in guys like Eyre and Fox when the games are tight. It's unreal.
  13. Um, why isn't Gallagher or someone else not named Marmol or Wood pitching right now?
  14. FWIW, everything I've heard regarding the situation in the 03 draft supports what Wilco is saying.
  15. I still haven't decided who I want to win these Cards/Brew games. I guess I'm happy either way. I'll take a 2-2 split.
  16. Anyone know what's up with that weird new glove Fuku has?
  17. I was just watching TWIB and they showed a clip of Pie robbing a home run from Griffey. I was like WTF? I had no idea he made any such play. Was that the game Soto homered in? I missed that one.
  18. LOL it's so ridiculous to me when people scream, "Look at the Mavericks!" and mean it as an insult to Cuban somehow. I guess that's cause I don't put much stock in the playoffs as a measure of success. Championships are cool and playoffs are fun and all, but they don't always necessarily mean all that much. Even if championships were the be all, end all that people make them out to be, it's pretty absurd to blame the Mavs' playoff failures the last couple years on Cuban. Plus, they WERE in the finals three years ago, for crying out loud. Last year they lost to a GSW team that they just matched up with very poorly and this year they lost to a great team. The west is/was just loaded this season.
  19. I really don't mind the idea of the Brewers getting buried early. I have little, if any, fear of the Cardinals being around for much longer.
  20. He was short and chubby, but he could go get it. Maybe not the best example, but he was well above avg. in CF. Not that it's a good measure at all, especially since he was a good hitter, but he did win 6 gold gloves. Yes, I realize Edmonds won a bunch. Just offering some support to the notion that Puckett being on that list might not be so absurd...
  21. Do you think the things you said about Pie and Johnson somehow don't apply to Edmonds?
  22. It was really weird seeing this thread about a simulated game in Mesa and then reading "Prior" first thing.
