  1. Supposedly, there'll be one coming on Harden (and Arroyo)....
  2. He's starting Saturday.
  3. 6'1" 195 Oswalt is 6'0" 185 Schilling 6'5" 225 Then again, Prior is listed the exact same size as Schilling, didn't seem to do much for him... :?
  4. Because it's a personal thing for me and that shouldn't determine what's good for the board. The Z thread was different because it was started by a Card troll and Budhouse felt that Wood would break down or not be able to be a good closer, which he has been wrong so far, and imo that's different. BudHouse exhibits pretty trollish behavior himself. Does he ever even post besides when Wood blows a save? (To his "credit," I don't think he made an appearance Saturday)
  5. I'd like to know exactly what it is I'm wrong about, but I don't want this thread to veer off the subject (especially the "harping" part, as I don't believe I've even discussed the issue this calendar year). IMO, there's nothing wrong with bumping this thread in support of what Wood has been doing and it's all in fun... Much like the Zambrano thread on Cubs.com in 2003. If you really have a big issue with it, why don't you discuss locking it with the other mods? *shrug*
  6. The optimism surrounding Prior was natural as a result of positive reports (which turned out to be false/wrong) from bloggers last year early in spring training. Once he actually went out on the mound throwing in the mid 80s, you would've been hard pressed to find too many posters optimistic about Prior in 2007. The desire to keep Prior around last offseason was based on the thought that we should take a flier on him in case he ever were able to recover. I highly doubt anybody was confident in that actually happening, although there was mild optimism because they had supposedly found "something" in his shoulder during the surgery. He went on to have further unfortunate setbacks in his rehab and another surgery. There's really no 'I told you so's' to be made. The reason you found yourself in so many debates about Prior was because you repeatedly made (essentially) baseless claims that he was on steroids. Pitchers don't have to be former steroid users to break down. Just ask Dusty.
  7. I'm pretty sure the Cards used Miles a few weeks ago when they were getting crushed.
  8. Of course, those guys are pitching in the American League with half their starts in a band box. But yea.
  9. Don't lie. You know you would've been right with the 'OMGZ PRIOR PRIOR!!' crew had you been in the thread earlier yesterday... :D
  10. Because they've been overachieving all year and have already slowed down quite a bit (granted, injuries have played a role).
  11. http://www.dailyherald.com/story/?id=216775&src=152 Picked out a few of the guys' thoughts on it. I liked Edmonds's comment on it a lot. http://www.dailyherald.com/story/?id=216775&src=152
  12. He was also big on the "demote Wood, promote Marmol to closer" bandwagon which was pretty much wrong on a multitude of levels.
  13. bold words from a guy who's made none of his opinions known except for his unhealthy adulation of the papacy. lol, he did say that Marshall and Hill's major league performances have been similar, though.
  14. Hudson is pretty damn good. Don't forget Haren. Either way, you can't relate this to Harden in any way. He hasn't even gotten the chance to be overused because of all of the time he's missed. That's true, about that he hasn't gotten the chance to be overused, since he's been spending time in the DL, for the most part. Still though, as it has been mentioned everywhere, it has a high risk, but it also has a high reward, provided he stay healthy. I'm just simply pointing out that the A's, for the most part, have been spot on. I thought they made a mistake to let Zito go, but apparently they knew what the hell they were doing. Same with Mulder. Hudson is pretty good, no doubt, but I don't think he's the ace that many people thought that he was supposed to be. As for Haren, I just completely forgot about him. You really thought they made a mistake letting Zito go? Everyone and their mother seemed to know Zito was bad news and in a decline (his decent looking "traditional" numbers aside, his peripherals were getting worse and worse). Some people were fooled into thinking he was still good because of his early 2000's reputation and good looking ERA and record, but I remember knowing that I wanted nothing to do with him, and that seemed to be the consensus among many fans. Plus Hudson has been very, very good and there's no reason to see Haren suddenly tanking anytime soon. I just think the whole "Oakland gets rid of their starters and they turn to crap" thing is overstated.
  15. Dick Harden
  16. I would go with Mrs. Soto. There are many Mrs. Soto's CUBS WIN!!!!!!! I like this Ms. Soto: http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d35/Suol_/MIIMG_00080_LG.jpg And he deserves every bit of her. (Blanca Soto, model, you might recognize her as the girl with the tattoo of "Mike" in the Yellow Book commercial http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TTnwWzNGPIQ ) Also, 4-2 Phillies That's seriously Geo's wife? Yowza. That's not his wife. Her name just happens to be Soto.
  17. Gaudin was warming in the pen. He looks like any other pitcher, really. Harden in the dugout yet?
  18. Now he's forced to, hopefully it's a laugher tomorrow. I'm not sure I'd want him in there in a close game tomorrow. Wuertz plz.
  19. I'm a bit late to see this game tonight... any pics/TV footage of Harden/Gaudin in a Cubs uni yet?
  20. I think it's instructive to realize that, on the whole, the rest of the country would like the Brewers to beat us. Yes there are a lot of Cub fans out there. But with that comes many more Cub haters. The national media probably has quite a few. Secretly, many people are probably out there rooting for a Harden injury. Sorry to say, but I have no doubt it's true. You're nuts.
  21. The poster's idea being that Marquis would need to be in the rotation until he is traded, I would imagine, and therefore Marshall is better off getting starts in Iowa than rotting in our bullpen until any such move is made with Marquis.
  22. Also, I'm not sure, but they seemed to be suggesting that Harden was a steroid user (they talked about players from the bay area, injuries, mentioned other former suspected steroid users). Generally, I like their show, but I really hate how they accuse any and everyone of using steroids.
  23. Boers and Bernstein continue to say on the Score (based on what Stone said before) that he's throwing only fastball/changeup. Could PitchFX possibly be that wrong?
