  1. Surprised nobody mentioned this, but Levine was on with Waddle and Silvy maybe a half hr ago, said that he still expects a deal to be done by Monday sending Peavy to either the Cubs or Braves. Said it looks like a Cubs package would involve Felix Pie, Ronny Cedeno, Mitch Atkins, and I can't remember if he said Sean Marshall or Rich Hill as the other piece. Said Mitch Atkins is a guy they seem to like a lot.
  2. That is scary. A 16 game winner as your 5th starter. Actually my rotation would be 1. Peavy 2. Zambrano 3. Dempster 4. Lilly 5. Harden. Until Harden proves he can stay healthy and can go every turn, you should send him down to the 5th spot and rest him from time to time. The Cubs could possibly win over 100 games with that. The other teams in the Central have to be Howrying their pants if this deal goes down. The problem is, who is going to show up to hit the FREAKING ball in the post season. The actual order of those guys means absolutely nothing (except in the playoffs), but Harden is the second best (you could even make a case for the best, but I wouldn't) pitcher in that rotation.
  3. UM, I'd be all the hell over a deal for Jake Peavy that had Jeff Samardzidasdfaja as the CENTERPIECE.
  4. I poked fun at how he got the info, not who he is. Called that being cyncial about all big names trades after what happen in the Roberts trade discussion. So if he thought I poked fun at him, then I apologize, I meant no harm. I was trying to poked fun at how he got it. It seemed as though you addressed the situation with your usual careful consideration and research. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lewis_Ruffner Save this crap for the political thread, will ya David? Or is that too much to ask for? I just clicked random article on Wikipedia and that's what came up.

  6. Let's hope they don't promise him they'll sign Furcal if they trade him or something.
  7. FWIW, I still think the OH guys had legit info. Even Roberts admitted that he was told he was on his way out at one point. I just think the O's front office is/was a huge mess.
  8. Eh, sort of uncalled for. Garwilly is a long time poster here and there's no reason to doubt he heard what he did. I know it's easy to poke fun after the Roberts stuff last year, though.

  10. NFL Network, I believe.
  11. Hendry is a god at trades. It's FA's he kind of sucks at. I'm cautiously optimistic.
  12. Whatever did happen with Thomas? I remember his name being brought up by some people during the Roberts stuff (except I think he couldn't be traded). Did he do anything this year?
  13. you could have done that a half hour ago What am I missing here? Meph posted a fake story and got people excited. I didn't see the story but I got excited as I read their excitement only to be disappointed when I read their disappointment.
  14. I was at my first Cubs game ever that day... but I didn't really care about the Cubs (or the Bulls). I remember the disappointment in the crowd when the PA guy announced the Bulls had lost. Derrick May hit a HR.
  15. Please don't tell me OH stands for Orioles Hangout. That would be the joke.
  16. San Diego GM Kevin Towers spoke to a small group of writers on his way out of the St. Regis. He said that the Jake Peavy trade talks have progressed to a point where the pitcher has been told he’s going to be traded, it’s just a matter of when a deal is struck. “That train has left the station,” Tower said. Towers also revealed that he is dealing with three teams, all in the National League. He mentioned the possibility of Peavy moving as part of a multi-team trade. The Padres are known to be dealing with the Braves and Cubs. The third team could be the Cardinals or Astros. The Yankees are not in the mix. “It’s been narrowed down for quite a while and there have been no additions,” Towers said.
  17. I was pretty upset that one time they almost lost game 7 to the Pacers...
  18. I'm pretty sure that's how you are about every sport, brobama..
  19. I wouldn't feel sorry for Rose for this being his rookie team. Most rookies of his quality are on FAR worse teams than this.
  20. I tend to agree with you, but hasn't the mindset been that bullpen performance is flukish by nature and that it's not smart to commit a whole lot of money to it anyway? Is our love for Woody clouding judgment? I think the biggest negative of losing Wood would be the fact that we'd lose Marmol in the highest leverage spots. Could the Cubs be smart enough not to just move him to the closer spot?
  21. If there's one thing I like about Hendry it's that he seems to go balls out.
  22. That's what I was thinking in the Dempster thread. But I truly hope not.
  23. I'm wondering if the whole Peavy situation and the reports of him palling around with Towers are just Hendry's way of playing poker. A bluff to lower Dempster's demands with no real possibility of a deal being reached. The idea that a package of our minor league scrubs and/or question marks at best could get Peavy is sort of mind boggling....but I sure as hell hope it's true.
  24. http://www.suntimes.com/sports/baseball/cubs/1264646,cubs-peavy-110608.article Here's the actual DeLuca article.
  25. If Shark didn't have a no-trade clause I'd gladly trade him.
