    That's just plain old stupid. How is that serious egg on the face? Samardzija has a no trade clause, we know that. That makes it difficult to trade him, but not impossible. We know that. There's no egg on the face for pointing that out and still seeing a guy traded. Poster A: We should trade Samardzjia, Player B, and Player C Poster B: NTC. He can't be traded. If it turns out that the NTC doesn't limit certain trades -- such as one to the Padres -- Poster B was actively wrong. Thus, egg-in-the-face. Everybody knows that NTC's can be waived. Even full ones. It's just obviously a lot easier to discuss potential trades without speculating on whether or not a player would waive one. It just adds more uncertainty into the mix.

    I don't think we were ever told that it was limited either. I'm pretty sure we were under the impression that it was a full NTC, but I could be wrong.

    I caught about 5 minutes of CSN Sportsnite last night, and somebody mentioned it was an either/or proposition. I can't imagine them having both. Some people are insisting it's either or (like that CSN report) and others are insisting they want both (Levine, Rosenthal)....

    Levine is really the first one that was pushing the story around here, well before the national outlets picked it up (and really before the local papers did, too)....

    Surprised nobody mentioned this, but Levine was on with Waddle and Silvy maybe a half hr ago, said that he still expects a deal to be done by Monday sending Peavy to either the Cubs or Braves. Said it looks like a Cubs package would involve Felix Pie, Ronny Cedeno, Mitch Atkins, and I can't remember if he said Sean Marshall or Rich Hill as the other piece. Said Mitch Atkins is a guy they seem to like a lot.

    That is scary. A 16 game winner as your 5th starter. Actually my rotation would be 1. Peavy 2. Zambrano 3. Dempster 4. Lilly 5. Harden. Until Harden proves he can stay healthy and can go every turn, you should send him down to the 5th spot and rest him from time to time. The Cubs could possibly win over 100 games with that. The other teams in the Central have to be Howrying their pants if this deal goes down. The problem is, who is going to show up to hit the FREAKING ball in the post season. :cry: The actual order of those guys means absolutely nothing (except in the playoffs), but Harden is the second best (you could even make a case for the best, but I wouldn't) pitcher in that rotation.

    UM, I'd be all the hell over a deal for Jake Peavy that had Jeff Samardzidasdfaja as the CENTERPIECE.

    I poked fun at how he got the info, not who he is. Called that being cyncial about all big names trades after what happen in the Roberts trade discussion. So if he thought I poked fun at him, then I apologize, I meant no harm. I was trying to poked fun at how he got it.     FWIW, I still think the OH guys had legit info. Even Roberts admitted that he was told he was on his way out at one point. I just think the O's front office is/was a huge mess.

    Eh, sort of uncalled for. Garwilly is a long time poster here and there's no reason to doubt he heard what he did. I know it's easy to poke fun after the Roberts stuff last year, though.

    Whatever did happen with Thomas? I remember his name being brought up by some people during the Roberts stuff (except I think he couldn't be traded). Did he do anything this year?

    you could have done that a half hour ago What am I missing here? Meph posted a fake story and got people excited. I didn't see the story but I got excited as I read their excitement only to be disappointed when I read their disappointment.

    I was at my first Cubs game ever that day... but I didn't really care about the Cubs (or the Bulls). I remember the disappointment in the crowd when the PA guy announced the Bulls had lost. Derrick May hit a HR.

    San Diego GM Kevin Towers spoke to a small group of writers on his way out of the St. Regis. He said that the Jake Peavy trade talks have progressed to a point where the pitcher has been told he’s going to be traded, it’s just a matter of when a deal is struck. “That train has left the station,” Tower said. Towers also revealed that he is dealing with three teams, all in the National League. He mentioned the possibility of Peavy moving as part of a multi-team trade. The Padres are known to be dealing with the Braves and Cubs. The third team could be the Cardinals or Astros. The Yankees are not in the mix. “It’s been narrowed down for quite a while and there have been no additions,” Towers said.
