  1. I know there are gonna be concerns after the way the Brewers used and abused him at the end of this year, but I don't think CC in Milwaukee is something we should be wanting to see for the next several years.
  2. You're placing a 72-90 team as a favorite for the playoffs next season. It isn't true now, and it wouldn't be true with Peavy. They would be a 'middling' team either way, to use your term. Reading comprehension is key Probably an accident, but I think that's what he was referring to.
  3. Was there any other?
  4. I've learned better than to argue with you. 9/10
  5. Different people said each, though.
  6. it's ok though, cause you know a lot about stats and stuff.
  7. both
  8. I'm trying to figure out if I'm considered one of the "veterans" on here. Sure, I have the sign up date, but my post count was really nothing special until I picked it up over about the last year.
  9. I really don't feel like going back to find any quotes, but I am almost positive that when the Orioles visited the Cubs in June, Roberts himself said that, at one point, he thought he was traded here (or something to that effect).
  10. Combining that logic with last year's thread, we should have signed Brian Robert's 8000 times. Considering the fact that Roberts himself said that he was told he was on his way to Chicago at one point (by his agent, I believe), I am pretty sure there was fire. Not to mention the fact that the Cubs were trying to adjust their lineup at the end of spring training for Roberts's "imminent" arrival.
  11. Already looked at that and don't see anything about Vitters and Shark...
  12. I really don't see why Peavy would approve a trade to Atlanta if he knows there's a mandate from the higher ups to cut payroll. He can easily hardball his way onto a better team than that. But sometimes I guess guys want to be closer to home (which I don't really understand, because the difference is a few hours by plane regardless of where they are unless they're ACTUALLY at home)....
  13. Yes, this guy absolutely knows more than everyone else. Or it's just more rumors and we'll have to see.
  14. I hope Peavy has his heart set on coming here and vetoes pretty much every trade to the other teams but ownership makes Towers trade him anyway.
  15. I should say "no crazy wild card of an owner with a huge man crush on the principle player involved in the talks." In fact, Padre ownership wants the payroll cut.
  16. http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/blog/index?entryID=3691653&name=olney_buster These media clippings look exactly like the ones last year from the Brian Roberts thread, just with the teams and names being changed. How many times last year did we hear something like "The two teams are still discussing players, but expect a deal to be done by "? Except this time there's no crazy wild card of an owner involved.
  17. No offense to Dallas, but did anyone else hear this? I find it rather hard to believe that Towers would say that. He definitely said it. Thanks, David. That's some wild stuff. I think it was more of a "if there's a tie, the leg up would go to Jim." He was talking up their relationship and how he trusts Jim Hendry and that it's not like that with all other GMs. Said Peavy likes playing in Chicago and likes the idea of playing for the Cubs and that he's sure that guys like Grace and Sutcliffe (who Axelrod also represented) have talked up the Cubs to him and that some of the Cubs players have probably lobbied him too. Also said he's got a close relationship with Axelrod (Axelrod represented him when he was a player) and that the process is going very smoothly because of that. Said that any deal he makes involving Peavy is going to be perceived negatively, so he's not worried about that. Just wants to get what he thinks is a fair package.
  18. No offense to Dallas, but did anyone else hear this? I find it rather hard to believe that Towers would say that. He definitely said it.
  19. Misinterperate?
  20. For those who may have missed it last night...
  21. Tell me where it is that you "hear" that Harden might be part of the deal and I'll answer this.
  22. I like that! I'd just as soon stay away from this rumor stuff, too, since most of it's untrue. My take on it is that where there's smoke, there's usually fire. I think that a lot of times the details of rumors get messed up/made up/etc., but that the basic rumor (i.e. Cubs have interest in such and such player) usually comes from truth.
  23. Let me call Jim and find out for you. Good call. Where is SSB?
