  1. While the Phillies were a great team, they had the luxury of watching the Mets implode yet again. I don't think Manuel would be in this discussion had the reverse happened. I'm quite happy with Lou winning it. Personally, I'm more perplexed by Joe Torre getting a first-place vote and Sveum getting a third place vote. I thought he was talking about Jerry Manuel lol Ha, me too.
  2. It's just one writer's speculation based on nothing other than the fact that we may lose out on Peavy and that Dempster may leave and that Sheets is an available pitcher. Why even bother talking about it? Sure, we might have interest on any pitcher out there if we lose Dempster and don't get Peavy.
  3. Yes, please. And add in signing Furcal, too. Sounds great. Does D-Lee have a NTC? EDIT: According to this site he does. Question is whether he wants to stay. http://mlbcontracts.blogspot.com/2005/01/chicago-cubs_112114177768677294.html You must not read this board enough...
  4. Especially if you consider that maybe, just maybe, Peavy has no desire to go to Atlanta but is cooperating with SD in using them (along with Towers and Axelrod and the relationship Towers claims they all have) in getting them to get as much as they can from the Cubs, which doesn't stand to be very much in the first place. They're a convenient team to use as they're somewhat close to his home town (which still makes little sense to me - any town is a few hour plane ride away... it's not like he can live in his real home town and commute to Atlanta for home games).... I'm obviously not claiming to know anything. Just brainstorming. It would explain Atlanta's frustrations with wondering why the hell nothing is getting done.
  5. Theriot has value as a very cheap player who provides decent to pretty good OBP from SS and can passably play the position. Just don't green light him on the bases and you should be ok. ...and I'm not a Theriot fan, at all.
  6. I'd take Amare or Bosh alongside Rose over Wade or Melo (is Melo a 2010 free agent?). LBJ wouldn't be the ideal fit, but when you're talking about one of the top two players on the planet, "ideal fit" goes out the window.
  7. Truth. He's THAT good. It's unbelievable to me how awesome he is so quickly. Question: When they announce the starting lineups why do they say for him "from Chicago" instead of from where he went to school. I don't know if they've been doing that the entire season but I noticed it tonight. They asked him and he said he wanted to be introduced that way. They've been doing it since the preseason games at U of I.
  8. Could the "source" be Sutcliffe or Grace or someone else connected to Axelrod?
  9. Steve Rosenbloom, lol Why is he employed? He just writes that lame blog
  10. I have no idea the source. Huh? Where'd this come from? I thought I read the Cubs weren't changing their offer (course I realize this is all speculation, but still...). And while I accept that I may very well be the only one who feels this way, but I'd hate to see Theriot go. I think this year was just the beginning for him. I mean, the Cubs have won their division both years he's been full-time. Do you realize how old he is? What you see is what you get. Actually, what you saw this year might be a bit better than what you get.
  11. We can do this with every source. How many major outlets weren't reporting that we basically had no shot at Harden and didn't have the players the A's would want? Granted, I guess one would be inclined to cut someone like Rosenthal or Olney a bit more slack, but I don't necessarily see why (they're wrong a ton).
  12. Or maybe Peavy doesn't really want to go to the Braves all that much... *shrug*
  13. God, can we not turn this into one of these pissing matches. I actually like Desipio, and obviously, I hope the story is true.
  14. The only part of that that doesn't make sense to me is that Desipio already has a pretty established readership and has even been mentioned among the top Cubs blogs and has gotten shoutouts from Len on TV. I don't get why they'd try something like that at this stage in the game, so to speak.
  15. I'm not saying I at all believe that it is, but there could be a few reasons when deals are reported as "basically done" Haggling over a few throw ins, needing players with NT privileges to give consent, stuff like that... I don't believe it, though...not for that package.
  16. Yea, I don't really see that plan working all that well in a liquidity crisis, though.
  17. I actually love this part of it. January till mid February sucks, though. So does the two weeks or so of ST after they report and before the exhibition games... and then the 3-4 weeks after the first couple exhibition games.
  18. If he's reporting what he was told by whoever this source may be, what would his intelligence have at all to do with it? Believing a non-source would indicate he's very very dumb. True.
  19. Posting a fake rumor would also be a pretty good way to virally get traffic to a blog. Just saying. I hope it's true, though.
  20. If he's reporting what he was told by whoever this source may be, what would his intelligence have at all to do with it?
  21. http://www.suntimes.com/business/1271533,tribune-bids-cubs-deadline-111108.article I'm thinking Cuban might be one of the few who can still make a strong push. I recall him saying he got out of most of his positions in time and was actually up on the year (or maybe it was down a little, but he basically said he wasn't hurting too bad - it was an interview during a Bulls/Mavs preseason game).
  22. Dempster is an ace now? It should also be noted that Peavy is a much, much better pitcher than Ryan Dempster, Paul
  23. I dunno. I didn't think they had much of a shot over both Philly and NY. But I guess it's fair to say they were in the conversation.
