  1. it worked the last time we went to the world series
  2. it's sick that we keep acquiring my pitching man crushes... harden and peavy were my two favorite pitchers in baseball prior to this season. i hope we go 2 for 2...
  3. Maybe this is the NBA and they want an expiring contract.
  4. I'd love to know where you're hearing this (DeLuca speculated on Harden as a name), because Harden in this deal would make absolutely no sense.
  5. You're right, he's a gutless choking dog. That's why we shouldn't pay him the money.
  6. He'd probably have a little more value in that huge OF of theirs. Emphasis on little.
  7. Haha. The Mets giving Dempster a big contract sounds like an absolute disaster. let's hope that happens. What's more likely to happen? The Mets... A) Give Ryan Dempster a ridiculous 5 year contract B) Give Francisco Rodriguez a ridiculous 5 year contract C) Give both players ridiculous 5 year contracts I choose C. Anything over what Hendry has already proposed to Demp is overpaying since Dempster can't hack it in pressure situations. I can't imagine him faring any better in NY with the way things have gone over there the last few seasons. He'd have to be nuts to sign with the Mets. I was with you right up until there.
  8. Sounds good to me! I'd take that in a second...And heck it leaves us a small possibility to still get Roberts Levine reported that he talked to MacPhail at the meetings and Roberts isn't on the market and that they're trying to lock him up long term. The people talking about Roberts this offseason have just been rehashing stuff from last year. If they can't get anything done with him, though, talks may be revisited further along down the road.
  9. Ok, so it was Marshall. I don't think he said OR, though. That would be a felony (both would be a misdemeanor).
  10. Didn't I just say the window was 2-3 years? And come on... you're really counting on Harden long term? Really I'm terrified about the offense. Every key player other than Soto is old and many of them have shown signs of decline. I had a brain cramp, trying to get work done here MAN, JEEZ...
  11. And that window is, IMO, 2-3 years, not 1. Even as the offense regresses a bit, a team with a pitching staff Peavy, Harden (assuming he does well this year and they keep him), and Zambrano doesn't need the league's best offense to not lose a ton of games.
  12. Maybe he watched the last 2 Octobers You mean the ones that Chipper Jones was watching on TV? I'm just saying.. it's not ridiculous to think that a guy who wants to win a title might not think his best chance is with a Cubs team that could not handle the moment 2 years in a row. Keep in mind that he's under contract for at least 4 more years. The Braves will probably be in a better situation than the Cubs 2-3 years from now. I doubt that. Beyond that, maybe. MAYBE.
  13. Can you guys stop saying over exaggerating?
  14. Maybe he watched the last 2 Octobers You mean the ones that Chipper Jones was watching on TV?
  15. If the Pads MUST move Peavy, I don't understand why he wouldn't just make sure he came to the Cubs over the Braves (especially if the offers are close enough that the Pads need to talk things out). Why on earth would someone rather be on the Braves than the Cubs right now (assuming that winning is any priority)?
  16. Huh? What have YOU heard? The first half of the post you quoted quantifies that it was a hypothetical. You're right, it does.
  17. Huh? What have YOU heard? I think he's just jumping the gun a bit. I know. I'm just effen with him..
  18. Huh? What have YOU heard?
  19. That's just plain old stupid. How is that serious egg on the face? Samardzija has a no trade clause, we know that. That makes it difficult to trade him, but not impossible. We know that. There's no egg on the face for pointing that out and still seeing a guy traded. Poster A: We should trade Samardzjia, Player B, and Player C Poster B: NTC. He can't be traded. If it turns out that the NTC doesn't limit certain trades -- such as one to the Padres -- Poster B was actively wrong. Thus, egg-in-the-face. Everybody knows that NTC's can be waived. Even full ones. It's just obviously a lot easier to discuss potential trades without speculating on whether or not a player would waive one. It just adds more uncertainty into the mix.
  20. I don't think we were ever told that it was limited either. I'm pretty sure we were under the impression that it was a full NTC, but I could be wrong.
  21. I caught about 5 minutes of CSN Sportsnite last night, and somebody mentioned it was an either/or proposition. I can't imagine them having both. Some people are insisting it's either or (like that CSN report) and others are insisting they want both (Levine, Rosenthal)....
  22. Levine is really the first one that was pushing the story around here, well before the national outlets picked it up (and really before the local papers did, too)....
