If they were down 10, I could see the Bears justify it by saying that 2 TDs would give us a win, but a TD and FG would tie it. You kick the FG, then score a TD on the next drive and you win the game You're gambling you can punch it in from inside the 1. Yes, you need the FG but you also need the TD and that's a really good opportunity for it. Worry about the TD later. At least put yourself in a position to need only a TD later. I think we'll agree to disagree there. You need the TD either way. I think your odds of scoring from a yard out with an extra down and then getting to within field goal range on the next drive are better than of taking the FG and trying to score a TD on the next drive.
