  1. Flied out in his first at-bat, made some sort of contact out in his second. I only recall one ball hit to him, which he fielded cleanly. "wicked line drive" to 2b according to pat
  2. Yeah. I'd like to see him make the team over Fuld, though. I don't see him as anything more than a fourth OF anyway, so I don't think there is a lot to be lost by not leaving him in the minors for seasoning. Even if he tore it up in AAA and got called up, he's still be behind Nady even if something happened to Soriano. For him to get significant AB's, Soriano and Nady would have to go down, which is possible. If an increase in power led to some pitchers being more careful with him and him becoming more patient as a result, I could see value in giving him another year of work. I think I'd rather he play everyday until somebody in front of him gets hurt at which point he might be a better option than Fuld to start. Yea, that's the one way I could see things working out for him long term. Or if he just learned a better plate approach at some point.
  3. Isn't FWP available? He has put up around 4 yards a carry with a pretty shoddy line.
  4. He was referring to AP, pretty sure.
  5. Castro with a "wicked" line drive to EPatt
  6. Pretty sure the added muscle isn't going to cure Colvin's inability to draw a walk... so I can't get excited about him no matter what he does.
  7. All this talk makes Phillips's statement the other day extremely bizarre.
  8. He wasn't very good last year. Not that he had a ton of carries or anything but it's something to consider when you take into account his age too. I mean, he did a nice job catching out of the backfield, but Forte does that too.
  9. How many years until hes a starter in the Big Leagues? Anybody wanna guess? 1 really? Considering there's talk about him doing it this year if he does well enough or if the circumstances dictate it, I'd say so.
  10. Why do we want Taylor? 30 year old RB? Meh. I mean I guess he could be a good fit. I'm just not very excited about him.
  11. Beat writer Brad Biggs reports the Bears are expected to "hit it big" at the midnight start of free agency. "This is it," Biggs' source said. "There is no draft. They have to come out with four or five players. The Bears will not be outbid. It's in their budget." The Bears have traditionally been conservative in free agency, but we've now seen multiple reports expecting them to splurge this year. Julius Peppers is squarely in the cross-hairs. Source: Brad Biggs on Twitter BradBiggs Everyone is a spectator right now, 9 hours from opening of free agency. One source I trust said: "I expect the #Bears to hit it big." BradBiggs Source added: "This is it. There is no draft. They have to come out w/ 4 or 5 players. The #Bears will not be outbid. It's in their budget."
  12. That would be a depressing, terrifying world. Well, getting out of the contract would be a dream in itself... but Colvin playing in his stead... yikes
  13. It was majestic how you could see his rippling body tighten beneath his uniform as strike 3 was called. what about all the loose skin
  14. I don't like Ryan Theriot. Ryan Theriot doesn't suck.
  15. Thinking of doing Cincy that next weekend instead... would be a lot easier.
  16. what's funny to me is that there is probably a fairly significant segment of baseball fans who think sabermetrics are basically a million different batting average splits (i.e. day, runners at 1st and second with 2 strikes and 1 out)... and on base percentage.
  17. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/ct-spt-0303-cubs-chicago-spring-training-20100302,0,2905063.story LOL seriously?
  18. He's been a professional for 120 innings. He was great last year at Daytona. Then he got promoted and was great in July at AA, then wore down at the end of the season. This isn't some Samardzija-like situation of hoping his stuff matures so he stops getting hammered, he was quite good at an appropriate level, and then wore down when he reached a new IP threshold. Cashner has great stuff, gets ground balls, never gives up HR, and gets strikeouts without walking the world. It's not about development, it's about stretching him out. I don't know nearly enough about him... does he also have (or does he project to) good enough secondary/tertiary pitches to get through the lineup multiple times at the ML level? If he's had success doing so in the minors at age appropriate levels, I would think so. If it really is just a matter of stretching him out, I don't think he should be anywhere but starting at AA to start this season.
  19. It might not hurt him, but it could help them to just accept what they have. Personally, I think he'll be fine as a starter. I have no idea why you could be so confident that he has no chance at being a legit starter. Putting him in the bullpen this year doesn't prevent him from starting later on. It definitely would help. It stunts his development as a starter and could very possibly pigeonhole him into relieving.
  20. Why hopefully? Hopefully Martz fixes this inept offense, which just happens to include a disappointing TE, and stays for a while. Like he did in Detroit. Martz is a terrible offensive coordinator, and you'll figure that out pretty fast. lol
