  1. Has the novelty of Cubs/Yankees worn off after 7 years? I wonder what the resale on those could be...
  2. Oh, and LOL at Castro vs. Jeter
  3. Anyone get this email yesterday? I'm contemplating doing it...I just don't know if I'm enthused about the team enough. January is a great time to get me, because the prospect of a new baseball season excites the hell out of me at this point. Getting Yankees and Sox tickets guaranteed is a nice benefit. http://www.aww-kittah-aww.com/up/public/191453/cubs.jpg
  4. Really? I'd be relieved if he remained that competent, given his age (and his lack of patience). I'm worried that he's going to flat out suck.
  5. Because it would be viewed as such. Agree with it or not, that is one of the reasons it just wouldn't be done. Hell, Jeter wasn't even moved for freaking ARod. An established young (hopefully) all-star SS just isn't likely to be moved for a rookie, no matter how good. And because it would make him a lot less valuable. Give me a DeRosa type at 2B who can hit and isn't necessarily a great fielder and leave Starlin at SS.
  6. Except that outside of at the very beginning of the season and in the playoffs (where a 4th starter usually wouldn't even come into play anyway), the starters aren't lined up in any way such that they'd be facing the equivalent starter of the other team. If they happen to, it would only be randomly.
  7. How ridiculous does our list still look if you just add Castro and Cashner to it?
  8. http://www.minorleaguebaseball.com/images/2010/08/10/Tt6aP8z7.jpg
  9. Nitpickey but wasn't Harris in the Nomar trade not the Aramis trade? Yes.
  10. I still think that Garza's potential for breakout (given his stuff) and his age and years left are being undervalued by some.
  11. Since we didn't dump Vitters in this deal, let's all pray that he manages to rebound and pans out into a decent player.
  12. I think you're right. We'll have a very deep rotation, should have a very strong back end of the bullpen, and the offense is hard to tell because there's been so much variance with guys like Ramirez, Soriano, and Pena, and guys like Castro and Colvin don't have much MLB history. I think this team is built in the vein of the 2008 team. Not that it's going to win 90+, but it's built to minimize weakness, and if you aren't going to have a Pujols or a Lincecum on your team, that's not a bad way to go. In the vein of the 08 team is exactly what I was thinking. Solid up and down... a hole or two we have to fix to get to that level, though. Would love an upgrade at 2B, but that's not being talked about at all... and I hate that Colvin is in the everyday lineup.
  13. Just wondering... but how did the offense do in the post Piniella hot stretch? I'm asking honestly... I didn't really watch and I'm too lazy/busy (lol) to look it up.
  14. I feel like our chances next year are being underplayed. To me, Z, Garza, Demp, Wells, Cashner/Gorz seems like a really, really solid starting rotation. There may not be a dominant guy, but there are a bunch of solid guys and 2-3 of those guys are capable of being really good any given season. We all know bullpens are a crapshoot, but Marmol is about as close to a sure thing as you get (in terms of being able to count on very good performance out of a reliever). If we can be decent offensively, I don't see why this can't be a pretty good team, but maybe my "analysis" is flawed.
  15. Take this for what you will... Levine (and I don't know how exactly he would know this) claims that Hendry values Garza higher than Greinke.... :-k
  16. You laugh, but I bet somewhere on Cubs.com or in some crappy blog's comments, someone is making this post. He'll be happy to know that Levine referred to the minor league OFer we're getting in return as a "speed" guy.
  17. Levine is reporting it as a done deal, not rumor anymore. So he's basically tossing that out there as fact. FWIW.
  18. You laugh, but I bet somewhere on Cubs.com or in some crappy blog's comments, someone is making this post.
  19. Cubs and Tampa have officially agreed on an 8 player deal. 4 minor leaguers and Sam Fuld for Matt Garza and two young players Archer, Chirinos, Lee, & Guyer Garza for a minor league OFer and minor league pitcher... Levine didn't say names
