  4. in our lineup? Don't expect great analysis out of me here, as I'm mostly jotting thoughts down and not as good at interpreting the advanced numbers as many others here (though I definitely like reading up on them and seeing others' analysis). You'll see what I mean. The main guy that occurs to me is Aramis, who suddenly had his worst year, by far, as a Cub since we've had him. He did have an awful first half and rebounded later in the year, but he still wasn't producing what we've come to expect from him. I want to chalk it up to the 09 shoulder injury, but he hit so well after the injury that most of us had given up worrying about that. Even if he does rebound a bit, is his defense now so bad that he can't outhit it anymore? Will Castro produce similarly to last year, take a step forward, or will he regress? I'd be satisfied with a similar year and I'd be ecstatic if he continued to progress and showed any level of improvement, considering how special his season was for his age. I'm really not sure what I expect, though. As for LF, I had given up (probably foolishly so) on Soriano's chances of being very good after his 09 season, so a season like last year's would almost satisfy me, though a surprise rebound season would obviously be really nice. I can't say I'd put it past him, as one more of his ridiculous hot streaks last year would've made his numbers pretty respectable and those seem to just show up pretty randomly. He did have one or two last year, though, and he started the season very nicely. Byrd, to me, isn't much of a question mark because I don't expect him to do much better or worse than he did last year. It'd be nice if he weren't hitting high in the order, but lineup order has never concerned me all that much. I'd include Colvin... the only reason I don't is that I think he kinda sucks and I don't expect him to hit for enough power again to be as productive as he was overall despite his crappy patience. A more minor question mark might be Soto in that I'd like to see him follow up 2010 with another good season. My only reason to doubt it would be his struggles after 08, but it seemed he got a bit unlucky with BABIP in 09 (IIRC) and with injuries. I'm pretty much expecting well above average production from him for 2011, though. Thoughts? I know I hit on a lot of different things (and not to a very deep extent)...
  5. Bobby Hill already wore it, anyway.
  6. I, too, love Stacey King. There's not a commentator in the league that I'd take over him for a local team. Very few guys are that entertaining.
  7. Has the novelty of Cubs/Yankees worn off after 7 years? I wonder what the resale on those could be...
  8. Oh, and LOL at Castro vs. Jeter
  9. Anyone get this email yesterday? I'm contemplating doing it...I just don't know if I'm enthused about the team enough. January is a great time to get me, because the prospect of a new baseball season excites the hell out of me at this point. Getting Yankees and Sox tickets guaranteed is a nice benefit. http://www.aww-kittah-aww.com/up/public/191453/cubs.jpg
  10. Really? I'd be relieved if he remained that competent, given his age (and his lack of patience). I'm worried that he's going to flat out suck.
  11. Because it would be viewed as such. Agree with it or not, that is one of the reasons it just wouldn't be done. Hell, Jeter wasn't even moved for freaking ARod. An established young (hopefully) all-star SS just isn't likely to be moved for a rookie, no matter how good. And because it would make him a lot less valuable. Give me a DeRosa type at 2B who can hit and isn't necessarily a great fielder and leave Starlin at SS.
  12. Except that outside of at the very beginning of the season and in the playoffs (where a 4th starter usually wouldn't even come into play anyway), the starters aren't lined up in any way such that they'd be facing the equivalent starter of the other team. If they happen to, it would only be randomly.
  13. How ridiculous does our list still look if you just add Castro and Cashner to it?
  14. http://www.minorleaguebaseball.com/images/2010/08/10/Tt6aP8z7.jpg
  15. Nitpickey but wasn't Harris in the Nomar trade not the Aramis trade? Yes.
  16. I still think that Garza's potential for breakout (given his stuff) and his age and years left are being undervalued by some.
  17. Since we didn't dump Vitters in this deal, let's all pray that he manages to rebound and pans out into a decent player.
  18. I think you're right. We'll have a very deep rotation, should have a very strong back end of the bullpen, and the offense is hard to tell because there's been so much variance with guys like Ramirez, Soriano, and Pena, and guys like Castro and Colvin don't have much MLB history. I think this team is built in the vein of the 2008 team. Not that it's going to win 90+, but it's built to minimize weakness, and if you aren't going to have a Pujols or a Lincecum on your team, that's not a bad way to go. In the vein of the 08 team is exactly what I was thinking. Solid up and down... a hole or two we have to fix to get to that level, though. Would love an upgrade at 2B, but that's not being talked about at all... and I hate that Colvin is in the everyday lineup.
  19. Just wondering... but how did the offense do in the post Piniella hot stretch? I'm asking honestly... I didn't really watch and I'm too lazy/busy (lol) to look it up.
