  1. Maybe had something to do with being down 2-0 and then getting completely blown out when down 3-0 and having next to nothing to cheer about in those games vs. a clip of a game tying homer in the bottom of the ninth and a blowout win in game two.
  2. http://m.mlb.com/video/v532413183/milchc-sosa-launches-three-solo-homers-vs-brewers/?query=sammy+sosa I miss this man so much. June of 98 was one of the most unbelievable things I've seen watching baseball.
  3. In other news, I think the Cubs signed Jason Heyward and the Bulls hired Fred Hoiberg.
  4. http://baseballcontinuum.com/2016/01/30/blogathon-16-dan-szymborski-doughy-nerd-gets-a-job/ Enjoyed reading this. Dan Szymborski blogging about coming up as a sabermetrics guy and how the whole landscape of baseball and sports media has changed.
  5. I'm hopeful (and halfway expecting) of Russell hitting himself out of the 9 hole this year. Maybe Montero winds up there?
  6. I don't really care about lineup construction either, as long as the better hitters are hitting early, but I don't think I've ever heard that the 3rd spot is less important than 4 or 5 before.(if I have, I've glossed over it due to indifference). That's at least kind of interesting. Think we talked about that quite a bit last year when talking about lineups/Maddon's lineups/pitcher 8th etc. I think hitting the pitcher 8th changes the equation a LITTLE bit there, though.
  7. You're sure about that, huh? Man, I hope your right, but I've seen multiple sources, most notably Keith Law, saying he's not a major league 3B defensively. I'd imagine it's his defense & question of a future position keeping him off a top 100 list, because I agree with your points offensively. Can't speak for Law, but pretty sure the thinking on that has generally changed.
  8. http://www.beyondtheboxscore.com/2009/3/17/795946/optimizing-your-lineup-by This is probably the closest to how Maddon thinks about it
  9. Disagree 100 percent. A hitter who slashes 280/350/450 absolutely has more business hitter at the top of the order than one who hits 280/300/500. The top of the order hitters are table setters, and so you want those players to get on base at a high rate for your middle of the order hitters to drive in. The idea that it doesn't matter whether a highly disciplined hitter hits second or sixth is ridiculous. it just doesn't matter nearly as much as you think it does what the order of the lineup is barring extremely silly scenarios like hitting the pitcher and all of your worst hitters at the top or something like that.
  10. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w8RhbPAP6gY seeing 95 from that angle is nuts. same with sliders.
  11. Chargers announce they'll be staying in SD next year, but still wielding their option to move to LA in hopes of getting SD to pony up for a stadium. Rumors that Mark Davis was out in Vegas meeting with Sheldon Adelson (Las Vegas Sands) and other city officials about a possible joint new stadium with UNLV.
  12. that he is but who doesn't love boobs? #whitetrashdadjokes
  13. Bears apparently met with Ohio State WR Braxton Miller yesterday
  14. yeah i honestly don't care how the lineup is ordered as long as montero and the pitcher are somewhere near the bottom
  15. this game has been some nice cheap entertainment
  16. This is terrible. BTW, "home of the Scott Crulls" was this a thing back then? i've never seen that before
  17. Yep. NEVER DISMISS IDEAS OUT OF HAND EVEN IF THEY'RE TERRIBLE! GIVE THEM ALL SOME THOUGHT!
  18. SIGN SOMEWHERE ELSE ALREADY DEXTER
  19. the right soler deal isn't out there, therefore HATE HATE HATE the rotation doesn't need deepening. heyward is probably a better defensive cf than fowler. this team doesn't need to limit downside any further; even if soler is garbage, we'll be really good. gambling on soler's obvious upside is the play. barring some awesome return for soler, which just isn't gonna happen, i will be very bummed if this plays out.
  20. Comcast is showing a special on my favorite Bears team ever (hint: it's not the 85 team) right now. This is awesome.
  21. He's the 5th best starting pitcher. He does not need to be nor should he be held to the same standard as the 1st best or 2nd best starting pitchers. This shouldn't be difficult to grasp. no he's a starting pitcher. He's held to the standard of other starting pitchers, not other 5th starters. He should be judged against all starting pitchers. Never stop being goony
  22. 5th starter isn't a position he's a starting pitcher. He's the 5th best starting pitcher. He does not need to be nor should he be held to the same standard as the 1st best or 2nd best starting pitchers. This shouldn't be difficult to grasp.
