  1. Also he seems like a fun kind of crazy http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20161207/01a02386ecf8ede9b2f0ef9d9de95ef3.jpg
  2. The thread title poses it differently, yes, but the poll's title asks it the way the options are presented
  3. Seems weird coming from you as you seem as willing as anyone to look at arbitrary endpoints/trends on guys and Gomez really only had a really bad 85 games in Houston this year, but otherwise was great in 2013, great in 2014, very good in 2015, and very good to great in his stint with the Rangers in 2016.
  4. Yeah, I would have preferred this risk over Jay. yes, but I imagine he wants a guaranteed starting role to rebuild his value. I would've been fine guaranteeing him CF for as long as he didn't play his way out of it.
  5. I was kicking around the question as to whether Soler as a DH would put up more WAR than Baez with his defense, since he (Soler, duh) won't have a chance to hurt you in the field...but I'm not sure how much KC will use Soler at DH vs. RF, so I'm posing it this way. There's also the question as to how much he'll see the field (er, batters box, at least). As for Javy's side, he posted some insane defensive numbers this year...I'm not saying he can't do it again but doing it that well seems like a big ask. Not sure it's sustainable. And he's likely to be less protected offensively with an increased role (in terms of matchups), and subsequently, there's a good chance he'll start to hurt us more offensively. BTW, here's hoping Javy busts out in a big way next year and gets this thread bumped for all the right reasons sometime at midseason, assuming we don't trade him in a package for Archer or Quintana or something.
  6. More than one google result tells me it's this: While I'm pleasantly surprised, that seems pretty low key for a closer.
  7. What is Wade's entrance music? It better not be some horsefeathering redneck country BS like Lester and Lackey.
  8. Yeah, that seems irresponsible. Well, I don't think KC has any obligation to allow it. I just don't really like it.
  9. [tweet] [/tweet] GROAN (not that a physical was going to magically tell us his UCL is about to blow up)
  10. Otani is so far off in the future now that it's not even worth thinking about right now. What is it, 2019? Jeff Passan has been making noise that it could be as early as after the 2017 season. Rosenthal since refuted that. [tweet] [/tweet] [tweet] [/tweet] [tweet] [/tweet]
  11. Holy horsefeathering horsefeathers...how is Darvish 30 already?! I feel so old.
  12. Otani is so far off in the future now that it's not even worth thinking about right now. What is it, 2019?
  13. Not to nitpick, but spending lots and lots of money also fits the bill of "hard to find." Not that I wouldn't spend it too, but a lot of times people talk about FAs like money isn't an asset as well. Money is a lot "harder to find" for some clubs than others though, and for the Cubs, especially coming off of a WS win, it shouldn't be hard to find at all. And the same would remain true when trying to replace Soler's future value. The money will be there. It's not like FA is some magic bullet compared to trades. It's all just value being moved around. This is coming from someone who isn't ecstatic about moving Soler for an injured very good closer.
  14. If this gets done, its time to sign Kenley and just throw poop at the rest of the league. I wish, but that's so not what is gonna happen. We're just gonna pocket the new money and see what we can buy next year or the year after.
  15. Not as hard to find when there are at least a couple of them available as free agents currently though. Not to nitpick, but spending lots and lots of money also fits the bill of "hard to find." Not that I wouldn't spend it too, but a lot of times people talk about FAs like money isn't an asset as well.
  16. Not as hard to find when there are at least a couple of them available as free agents currently though. Would you be willing to bring back Chapman at 90 million over 5 years? Jansen around that value too? History shows that doesn't work. What history? Elite relievers like that are few and far between and today's MLB economy is unlike it's ever been.
  17. Trying to make myself feel better about this by watching this
  18. I just figure it's medicals
  19. i mean i have been one of their most vocal supporters since before theo was even hired and that isn't changing realistically ever. i'm allowed to not like a move (or rumored move). I'd have been reluctant to give Jansen 4/64. But seeing as Melancon just got that, Jansen could easily land 5/75. Don't even want to think about Chapman's cost. Jansen is probably giong to get more than that and Melancon has no bearing on that I'd jump at 5/75
  20. damn i am slow as hell
  21. I think we're trying to keep some payroll flexibility for Harper or Otani or whoever in the coming seasons. This isn't a FA market that we should be spending big on. there should be money for any of those things.
  22. Seriously. I'm gonna extend the FO more than a one-month grace period after bringing us the first World Series in 108 years but that's just me i mean i have been one of their most vocal supporters since before theo was even hired and that isn't changing realistically ever. i'm allowed to not like a move (or rumored move).
  23. i'm more annoyed at the unwillingness to spend money on jansen than anything if this happens
