  1. 2 year penalty (as opposed to one year)? Is that because we went over a second time in 2015-16? Nope. We took advantage and only got a one year penalty(Rangers too) before it turned into a 2 year penalty. Once it did though, the teams just looked at it as (need 3+ years talent in order for it to be worth it) and just overspent by even more...... Just a stupid system. Ok I totally missed or forgot about it becoming a 2 year penalty.
  2. Why are the Cubs limited to a 300k bonus next year under the new CBA? My understanding is that the 2 year penalty for going over the "limit" that was in place with the old CBA carries over to this CBA. So they'll have the roughly 4.75 mil pool of money to spend, but can't go over 300k on any 1 player next year. 2 year penalty (as opposed to one year)? 3. force of habit. fixed it. just paste the url and let Tim's elves do the rest I used to do that with Tweets but people got all pissy so I stopped
  4. Who cares? Nevermind the fact that I don't see how anyone could have expected otherwise (as to Davis clearly being that guy) either.
  5. I'll stick with the way I think about it. Unsigned deals on the CBA and NPB, along with Otani's unclear motivations leave anything up for grabs. Not counting on him the way I was but to say "Cubs are out" for sure based on what MLB is current telling Passan seems pessimistic. I said Cubs are out "until 2019 at the earliest, unless something changes." It's just a statement of a fact. Not pessimistic. Under the new CBA the Cubs are limited to a 300k bonus for him while other teams can offer nearly $10 million. Any team can give him a 1 year opt out to free agency to get him to come over. Hopefully something changes. Under the current rules however, he won't be a Cub in 2018. Why are the Cubs limited to a 300k bonus next year under the new CBA?
  6. instagram ain't tweets son force of habit. fixed it.

  8. Jed says Dayton offered and allowed us to give him a physical.

  10. That horsefeathering elbow better hold out for 50-70 innings this year+postseason innings Between horsefeathers the closer and our many bullpen options, I'm hoping we're very conservative with him in the regular season. Then Joe can go full Chapman (only please not with a 4 or 5 run lead this time) mode in the playoffs.

  12. No. In the hypothetical/error Nightengale tweet scenario of the Rockies signing Fowler..... The Rockies lose the 11th pick and we get a compensation pick somewhere between like picks 25-35. Wait. Don't the picks always come after the first round and not during? You're forgetting to remove the teams that forfeit their first.
  13. oh my god larry holmes just said he thinks you would get more than *just* archer for baez please stop
  14. We wouldn't have gotten the 11th pick. And he probably either had Fowler on the brain for some other reason or just got mixed up because they both did the one year bet on selves contracts.
  15. lmaoooo was just coming to post this. he is so bad.
  16. Devil's advocate [tweet] [/tweet] edit - nm that's only as a SS lol
  17. Exactly. Not sure where the hell he plays with the people we have in the outfield at this point. I was fine with trading Soler, I just don't like it being for one year of an injured (again, very good) closer. That said, keeping our roster mix and the flexibility and injury protection that the depth allows (not that Soler himself is all that flexible - he's just another option in the mix) is pretty great in itself and I think the "where will everyone play?!" question is really overstated. Last year is a perfect example.
  18. Forfeit the #11 pick too, right?
  19. [tweet] [/tweet] I hope he's as wrong as he usually is...though I guess this is better than them getting Dex.
  20. Desmond to the Rockies...wonder what might happen with CarGo or Blackmon
  21. The thread title poses it differently, yes, but the poll's title asks it the way the options are presented the poll's title doesn't really ask anything fix this I knew someone would call me on this. Fixed.
  22. I also just noticed his 2015 numbers even are brought down by being awful in Houston. Maybe it's just something in the water. Or maybe Tal's Hill gave him anxiety and ruined him.
  23. Seems weird coming from you as you seem as willing as anyone to look at arbitrary endpoints/trends on guys and Gomez really only had a really bad 85 games in Houston this year, but otherwise was great in 2013, great in 2014, very good in 2015, and very good to great in his stint with the Rangers in 2016. 97 wRC+ in 2015, 83 in 2016, and his defense has also seen a precipitous decline to the point where it's fair to question whether he can play CF anymore. He's a late bloomer who always relied on extreme physical gifts to be successful, and since those gifts are starting to wane you could see things fall apart pretty quickly. Also he is a literal crazy person and that's not going to get better as he starts declining. I see his Texas performance as a death rattle more than a resurgence. A reasonable position...but at that salary I'm willing to roll the dice when the upside is something resembling his good years and what he did in Texas over Jon Jay at about the same amount.
