  1. And not real sure why Heyward would want to do waive his NTC for that...unless maybe weather is a big deal for him. Given the sheer number of night games, the weather in AT&T would suck for most of the season anyway. Yep. Remember when sori would've nixed a deal to the Giants because it'd be too cold?

  3. I don't know what you think my post was talking about, but I was calling your idea that black players should protest less visibly so white people would get involved idiotic and tone-deaf That's an incredibly foolish and obtuse distillation of my point. I wasn't suggesting that the protests should be less visible; I was responding to Tim's question on how the players could protest in a way that would be less offensive to large swaths of the population: the same population that the protesters are trying to reach. There are ways to do so, inclusive of ways that would likely get more participation from players, including more white players, who have been disturbingly absent from protests thus far. Of the guys who aren't joining the protests, there are probably a few groups: Group 1: They're racist Group 2: Not racist but don't think that police brutality is a problem Group 3: Not racist and think police brutality is a problem but concerned about the optics of kneeling during the national anthem ("not worth it") Group 1 is hopeless. Group 2 is likely very small but there's hope. Group 3 can be a very strong advocate -- and can be a more powerful one with a change in vehicle. What kind of protest could they do that wouldn't piss anybody off and make it easy enough on group 3 to participate? Protests are supposed to upset people. In this case, some combination of dumb, ignorant/uninformed, and/or racist people.
  4. https://www.facebook.com/WGNTV/videos/10155034466557411/ looks like they're already digging up the 1st and 3rd base sides for the new club lounges think we were supposed to see the new structure where the captain morgan/draft kings whatever is now by this offseason, but it doesn't look like they're doing that this year based on what i've seen so far.
  5. He's really good isn't a remotely good reason? For 6/160, no thanks that's basically what lester got 3 years ago at the same age. yeah, a little more risk in terms of durability, i guess, but the cubs will be printing more and more money. 160/6 doesn't seem remotely crazy or unreasonable to me for a really good pitcher who has been basically good for a 3-5 win season his whole career aside from the year missed for tjs.
  6. Number 2 is the only remotely good reason to give out that contract He's really good isn't a remotely good reason?
  7. Facing frontwards? Not sure I follow. pretty sure there's more to angles than just front side and back
  8. Id agree with you on Arrieta and Davis, but Lackeys only true value came in filling up a jersey with flesh and bones I'm sort of with jcf on this. Lackey wasn't good ... but bad still costs when the system really doesn't have anyone ready to step in and legitimately compete for an end of the rotation spot (maybe Tseng, although I'm still of the opinion that if Tseng can ramp it up, he might hold more impact in the pen). Ideally, you'd throw such a big net that you should be able to find a cheap guy to do what Lackey did last year, but what Lackey did last year, as bad as it was, still costs. Lackey was a half win above replacement. By definition, that's neither hard to find nor costly.

  10. Those shots are just gonna fall some nights and when you're jacking up 30 3s a game... yeah it's a high variance style of play and a lot of teams do it
  11. how about a joke about how he won't recruit free agents or something
  12. i saw someone else make this joke on twitter and i just didn't see how it lands...the bulls have traded a good player for a disappointing return in recent memory...once? (which ironically he was part of the return for) typically they've traded disappointing players, sometimes for surprisingly good returns.
  13. Markkanen has 12 points and 7 rebounds at halftime on 5/7 shooting, including 2/2 from 3 [tweet]https://twitter.com/_MarcusD2_/status/926596777729458176[/tweet]
  14. yeah pff has always liked amos a lot
  15. i've always thought lou cannellis was a horsefeathering idiot, and just now he further confirmed it by saying that yu darvish only has two pitches (as an explanation for why darvish tipping his pitches would be helpful to hitters)
  16. did you guys catch the steve sparks stuff after the game last night? bernstein and goff have been playing it and it's pretty incredible [tweet] [/tweet]
  17. Doesn't seem that unreasonable for the best free agent pitcher in 2017.
  18. i've never really gotten directly mad at players for sucking (barring extreme cases like brian schlitter or something). just sometimes mad at decision makers for playing them or acquiring them, depending on the circumstances. this heyward thing i can only attribute to bad luck...drastic decline on his part out of nowhere. the guy he had been when he was signed was the guy we were all (mostly) excited about signing. i've seen no indication that any of it is a lack of effort on heyward's part, either. disappointed, yes, big time, but i'm not really mad at anyone for how this has played out.
  19. I think something along the lines of kiermaier is his offensive upside. unfortunately, it really doesn't look like his defense will live up to that comp on that side. it's pretty funny that he was the one prospect we had whose defense was lauded big time coming up, with guys like russell and baez having their question marks, and KB's seen as a liability.
  20. i remember posting tweeted pics of correa working out at wrigley before the 2012 draft and some talk about how he was the FO's favorite prospect in that draft. iirc, it was considered a little bit of a surprise that he went #1 and people thought it was more about under slotting.
  21. yeah. i love to take in as much content as i can as long as it is remotely useful, but the real problem here is the fact that a way too early power rankings article even exists (really, power rankings in general, but i can see how they're at least sort of fun at the appropriate time). what was written about the cubs there, and the fact that they rank 8th with 2 openings in the rotation, isn't the actual problem.
  22. Did he say something? weird, he deleted it...it was just a tweet with a bunch of laughing smilies that came right as the game ended

  25. that's uh some pretty unfortunate timing? fwiw I've watched maybe 20 mins total but yeah it always seems like I turned it on and he misses multiple shots and then I turn it off i'm not sure i've ever seen a shooter like this on the bulls...at least, not one with more than just that skill (unlike say korver or kerr). the polish on him already at his age is very impressive.
