  4. I think a lot of people, not just on here but Cubs fans in general, don't get or understand how much better of a defensive shortstop Russell is than Baez on top of having superior offensive abilities/projection. I'll accept Russell's defensive capabilities, but I disagree with the offensive abilities/projection. The bottom line is that making a deal for a young, controlled starter is going to involve one of the young ML players on the roster and all of them have the potential to be top notch players. My point is that Russell's name should be among the others as a tradeable asset. Making a deal for a young, controlled starter isn't a thing that we actually need to do. However, in 1267 career PA, Baez has a wRC+ of 88. In 1506 career PA, Russell has a wRC+ of 90. Baez has been shielded heavily from tough matchups, and Russell hasn't (and obviously neither has set the world on fire).
  5. That's a big "IF". Of course "if he's hitting like he can", he would look good in the middle of the lineup too. That's his point. The problem wasn't Schwarber was hitting leadoff. The problem was Schwarber was hitting like crap. We can argue all day as to whether there was a mental thing going on where Schwarber was altering his approach as a result of that lineup spot, but we have no way of knowing that.
  6. i think it's primarily that we have an entire infield locked up for years and machado will cost a lot and will leave

  8. I posted a while ago that I thought Russell should be the 2nd name on the list of tradeable assets (behind Schwarber) simply because we have in-house replacements for both of them without missing a beat. Schwarber obviously belongs in the A.L., while Russell would certainly be a centerpiece in a major deal. Baez played flawlessly while sliding back to SS when Russell was out for an extended period and the Cubs went on a roll. Also the Cubs won 103 games during the season while Scwarber was injured. I'm not saying they aren't valuable or have a high potential, it's just that they can be easily replaced while bringing back a TOR starter. Happ doesn't even have a starting job. We don't need an in house replacement for him.
  9. my second fav has gotta be the one at arizona
  10. I love that they actually have an HD clip of this on YouTube There's not as much as I'd like there to be on there from that season.
  11. please get this horsefeathering guy out of our division [tweet] [/tweet]
  12. So Hester is retiring and all this tribute stuff is all over my Twitter feed. I remember being on here reading people question the pick when it was made (not that I had any idea who he even was). Now he's retiring as pretty much indisputably the best punt/kick returner of all time. Time freaking flies. The most excited I've ever been as a Bears fan was when he broke loose in the Super Bowl.
  13. fair enough. i don't disagree.
  14. im just not even sure how this issue can even be talked about when we literally have next to nothing to go off of, which i realize is often the complicated thing about these situations. and i still don't understand how starlin gets a pass as half the board's lovable mascot. i felt gross about that until he was traded.
  15. he's not some case of unrealized potential, a down injury-plagued 2017 aside (you think this is the time to sell high??). he had accrued damn near 7 fWAR before his 23rd birthday. he's an elite defensive SS who walks and has power, and he's not even 24 yet. I dont care what his WAR is if hes an abuser, I dont want to root for him. Trade him for Archer if he so valuable. an unsubstantiated instagram comment from his wife's friend is all we have to go off. not saying it's not true that something happened, but regardless, am i misunderstanding the reason you made your edit?
