  1. Who ISN'T in sports journalism? Ugh. By saying idiot, I mean a real moron. So do I. There are intelligent writers. Downey happens to be a complete and utter moron. He sounds like a White Sox homer. What writers are you thinking of? Phil Rogers. Paul Sullivan. Mike Kiley. Rozner. etc. All morons. I can only think of two that I respect... Bruce Miles and Rob Neyer.

  3. Meh. Doesn't really bother me. Then again, I'm not almost intelligent. :)

  5. http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sports/columnists/cs-060731downey,1,2858541.column?coll=cs-home-utility Downey, you have got to be kidding me. Plug this guy in at SS for the next several years??? I want to throw up. When will the mainstream media get off this conventional baseball wisdom crap?
  6. I will miss Todd. Honestly, though, I couldn't care less. I haven't watched a full game in what seems like months. I won't watch another game until Baker is gone.
  7. Didn't Tom Glavine also get hurt in a car crash in which he was a passenger in a taxi a few years ago?
  8. Thankfully, he has no plans on coming back to managing. Hopefully, it stays that way. Some (most) of these guys being brought up as managerial replacements are just lateral moves.
  9. And by 'promising' he means 'Bears fans' LOL... That's true... But I've noticed decently intelligent discussion, so far. Much better than the crap on the Bears.com and other team website forums. EDIT - Go ahead and join though, ndi. They could use Panther fans too. :)
  10. http://www.nflspot.com/forums/index.php?act=idx Just came across this fledgling NFL discussion site. I think it started up last night, and it already has a decent amount of discussion. A few posters look promising too. Check it out.
  11. I think the "good friend" comment was just a way to make the joke work. Probably.
  12. I don't know about bringing him in as pitching coach. It's his offensive philosophies that excite me; can't say the same for his views on pitchers (although I understand them, to an extent). Sure, as part of the coaching staff, he'd be able to give his input on offense, but what's to say the new manager would even listen to him?
  13. I was 8 when it happened, and I remember it. I think his '?' was directed at the reference to Thomas as a good friend of Reynolds. Just a guess.
  14. The Cubs are playing a game right now?
  15. If only he hustled more-that's all that you need! Hit .220, get an OBP of .260, but try real hard...then we'll win the World Series! Don't forget scrappy guys. We need more of those! A few gritty ones too!
  16. Seems like only yesterday it was US making the big deadline deal two years ago. People were saying the same thing about the Cubs with the acquisition of Nomar.
  17. This is just like the argument of those who want to blame Prior for staying in the game in 2003 after his collision, or Wood for wanting to pitch out of the bullpen last year. It's NOT up to them. It wasn't Wood's decision to make. It wasn't Derrek's. Players should ALWAYS want to play. Management and coaching is responsible for it. Period.
  18. You and Pedro are drinking from the same Kool Aid, and its apparently spiked with Angel Dust. I thought it was clear I was being facetious. It was.
  19. NFL Films Bears 2005 coming on in 5 min on NFL network Just a heads up
  20. I don't care what people say about chemistry and a bunch of other BS that the team wasn't likeable, I miss the whole 2004 team. That was the best Cub team I have ever seen in my 23 years (through about half of which I have been a fan). Mid-September 2004 was a great time to be a Cubs fan. It's such a shame they had to burn out and completely choke in the last 8 or 9 games. They had a great chance at winning around 95 games and had the wild card in their pocket.
  21. ...that Michael Barrett is hitting .323/.392/.517?? He's quietly having a great year (even the IsoD is halfway decent at .069)... Too bad nobody else is helping him out. Hope he can put up those numbers next year, IF there's actually a team around him.
  22. You've got to be kidding me. Another of these threads?
  23. Apparently, he didn't want more than 4 years. He could get more on a per year basis that way. Plus, there's this whole weird "over-36" clause when it comes to NBA contracts. Unfortunately, I have no idea what it is, but I know that it can complicate contracts quite a bit. 4 years keeps him from hitting that age, I believe.
