Yikes. Tough day at the plate for his season debut.

They had so many good looks that didn’t fall. I felt like that was a fairly evenly played matchup and the bounces didn’t go our way. Not to try and claim moral victory, but Illinois proved they belonged, unlike two years ago where UConn thoroughly outclassed them.

Not to look past the next three days but Illinois just landed a commitment from Quentin Coleman, who seems like an ideal Wagler replacement. I want to run it back with as much of this year’s rotation as possible, but prioritize Stojakovich and Mirk and I’ll be feeling really really good regardless of what else happens.

I’ve been out of the loop since his recommitment from Wake Forest, but is Quentin Coleman still in play? He’d be a fantastic Wagler replacement. I’ve read that Stojakovich may not be back next year, but more because his price tag is the highest on the roster and the staff might think they can spend that money more wisely elsewhere. I hope they can find a way to bring him back. I think he’s a great second scoring option. i think the safe default assumption in this day and age is 75% of the roster transfers or goes pro, but Mirk, Stojakovich, Coleman, Morillo and whatever combination of the twins and Davis they can bring back would have me feeling really good. They’d still need a PG. don’t think petro is the guy.

Yeah, resting on your laurels is a pretty strange approach when your previous year’s success hinged on turnover differential and winning close games. Accepting mediocrity at 2/5 OL positions is also an odd choice when strong OL play was such a key strength of last year’s squad.

Dame’s was in like 36 minutes too. Mitchell’s was an OT game, so a little extra opportunity but pretty badass anytime a player is on the court for 50 minutes.

There was a stretch from ‘94 - ‘17 where he was the only player to cross 70. So against that backdrop, obviously it’s super impressive. But Amick’s weird deification of Kobe and his hold on the 2nd highest scoring game of all time is super weird. Good for Bam for etching his name into the record books.

Unfortunately, Poles track record doesn’t suggest he’s capable of drafting well enough on Day 2 and 3 to avoid turning to free agency to fill out his roster. Here’s hoping he magically gets better with his 5th draft.
