  1. First time since 1932 that the Cubs have had a scheduled off day on a Sunday, apparently.
  2. Yeah I can go either way on this. The difference between the best punter and worst punter last year was around 7 net y/a. A good offense is punting 2.5-4 times a game. So we’re talking like 17-28 yards of field position in a game. Not nothing, sure, but a bit of a flex of a pick when you still have needs on both sides of the line. But, 4th round picks are lottery tickets and Taylor should appease the meatball side of me that screamed at the tv every time Gill saw the field. So, flex away, I guess.
  3. It would be so nice if he and/or Dexter could establish themselves as key contributors on the DL this year.
  4. Not disagreeing with the questionable use of draft capital (without looking back out who was available, IOL or anywhere on the DL would’ve been my extreme preference), but going from a profoundly bad punter to potentially the best in the league is going to be a very refreshing flip of the script. I had no idea punters could be so bad until Gill came along.
  5. 1 year, $6 million for Connor Williams feels like something the Bears should’ve been in on, even given the uncertainty after his injury.
  6. Oh yeah, 100% in agreement. This team has had adequate or better OLines like three times in 20 years and it drives me nuts. Somewhere along the line this off-season it feels like there was a narrative switch taking hold that the OLine would not be a big issue. Then training camp arrived and, lo and behold, the line looks weak. Again. I wouldn't change anything the bears did with their first round picks the past few years. That said, if you’re not going to invest in OLine in the top few rounds of the draft, you need to be more aggressive in the trade and FA markets.
  7. The names Poles has brought in to improve OL via trade and FA since taking the Bears job: Lucas Patrick, Nate Davis, Ryan Bates, Coleman Shelton, Alex Leatherwood, Michael Schofield, Dan Feeney, and 34-y.o. Riley Reiff. We shouldn’t be surprised that the OLine continues to be bad year after year.
  8. New streak starts tomorrow!
  9. I’m not the world’s biggest Paredes fan, but do you think 5 games is a meaningful sample size to throw away 9 WAR in 2.5 seasons from a 25 year old? Or are you just being willfully obtuse?
  10. Probably would be fair to give him more than five games.
  11. Wait is this a serious argument? That was a boneheaded play but PCA having better range than Belli is not really an open debate.
  12. Yeah, that tweet is from a terribly unfunny parody account that for some reason seemed to gain a lot of visibility last season.
  13. Someone on Reddit pointed out that next Friday is fireworks night at the Cell. I think I’m going to the game with my nephew. Now all I want in life is to witness White Sox break the modern losing streak record by falling to their hated crosstown rival and celebrating the milestone with a fireworks show.
  14. Christopher Morel has homered in back to back games. He used to play for the cubs.
  15. These are professional athletes with jobs, money, and playoff spots on the line. And pride. No one cares about throwing the horsefeathers White Sox a bone. This isn’t tossing a cookie down the middle of the plate to a Cal Ripken Jr. in the 2001 all star game. It’s avoiding the distinction of handing the historically embarrassing White Sox their first win since July 10. Are the twins, who are clinging to a WC spot, going to roll over one day this weekend? The A’s are pathetic but they’re not going to lay down for the one team in the AL they can claim superiority over. If they happen to win a game in the next week, it’s because the statistical probability of losing seven games in a row, even for awful teams, is low.
  16. Oh I was definitely being tongue-in-cheek there but I guess the illustrative point I would make from the rumor that they were basically trying to use their best trade chip to rid themselves of Benintendi’s contract rather than maximize prospect return is that the White Sox’ priority in trades is not the same as any other team’s. They’re a very dysfunctional organization. Combined with the prospect hugging that occurred this deadline, if and when they do trade Crochet, I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s light relative to expectations. Two back half of their trading partner’s top ten and some lottery tickets, maybe? Long way of saying I completely agree with you that we wouldn’t have to touch the top guys in our system if Jed wanted to make a run at him.
  17. What? No. This is not even remotely a thing. No team wants to be the team to lose to a squad with a sub-.250 winning %.
  18. Yeah, I mean, it’s Jerry we’re talking about here. Just take on Benintendi’s salary and offer them Brennen Davis.
  19. Yeah, I like that the Cubs have a deep and well regarded farm system, but unlike the farm system of 2012-2015, there’s not a single specific prospect I’m particularly attached to. Earlier this year I’d have said Horton until he reminded me TINSTAAPP. I’d love to see them make a prospect trade or two to address any of C, power bat, TOR SP, etc.
  20. What about the return for our best reliever fills you with regret that we didn’t trade any of our roster flotsam?
  21. You’re asking me to translate for Tom?
  22. Respectfully, Tom, can you take this horsefeathers to Reddit or something? Or like, start a separate Tom-only mega thread where you can post your musings that the rest of us can ignore? The interjections of the same rant you’ve been beating this entire board over the head with for months (years?) are beyond obnoxious at this point.
