  1. Yes, from what I’ve heard questions about his effort and commitment go back to his time in Tennessee.
  2. Is it weird? When Poles took the job, he inherited an OL that desperately needed improvement. The names he has brought in to improve OL via trade and FA: Lucas Patrick, Nate Davis, Ryan Bates, Coleman Shelton, Alex Leatherwood, Michael Schofield, Dan Feeney, and 34-y.o. Riley Reiff in the twilight of his career. Most of this list consists of depth lineman rather than starters, the exception being Nate Davis who he gave $10 million despite serious questions about his willingness to actually play football.
  3. You can still purchase a JWebb Nation tshirt! http://www.jwebbnation.flyingcart.com/?p=detail&pid=5&cat_id=
  4. I find myself mixing and matching even in the same sentence (E.g, Dansby, Nico, Belli, and Happ) and I can’t offer a rhyme or reason.
  5. Yeah, being a multidimensional player helps in that regard. Given the Cubs’ current roster construction (a bunch of 2-3.5 win players without a true superstar), it’s not something I want to see them do next year unless they are able to pull off that acquisition of a true middle of the order ~40-HR power bat that everyone’s been lining for.
  6. I wonder if this is universally recognized by front offices or if this could present opportunity for more trades for post-hype prospects, a la Michael Busch last year? In other words, will all orgs have the same level of patience for letting guys figure things out at the big league level as the Cubs did with PCA?
  7. Interesting. I kind of just assumed Carter and Velus getting involved in the offense was because Keenan was on the sideline.
  8. Xavier Scott was absurd. Good to see the D back to 2022 form so far. 8 forced turnovers already. Altmyer looked shaky, but his receivers came up big. Zakhari Franklin’s one-handed grab was incredible.
  9. Pretty sure I saw him lined up when they intentionally took the delay of game, but I didn’t spot him on any plays that were actually run.
  10. Holy horsefeathers, you are insufferable.
  11. I haven’t seen anyone drawing any conclusions about him based on today’s performance.
  12. It seemed like DeMarcus Walker stepped up big in the second half. Every time the pocket collapsed on Levis, felt like #95 was right there.
  13. It’s really depressing that we seem to have an OLine problem for the 18th year in a row. But Caleb was bad. Full stop. Inaccurate throws, not seeing open receivers, and as Kyle mentioned, not showing off that special ability to escape pressure and get the ball downfield in spite of the bad line. This game has next to no bearing on my level of optimism for Caleb long term, but I was expecting much more.
  14. Outside of PCA, there’s not a prospect or young player on the 26-man that should be off limits in a trade for these two. You mention it in your post and it’s been said plenty on this board the past two years but this lineup looks so much better with a 30+ HR bat thrown in the middle of it.
  15. Blasingame being cut combined with the Webster and Wheeler injuries seems to bode well for Velus making the 53-man.
  16. This is 100% a fair take. Putting Kyler, Stanford and Lawrence ahead of him makes sense. That said, there’s enough question marks around each of the three (age, health, consistency, etc.) that I’m going to stick with my Bears Kool-Aid take. What’s the point of having a #1 overall pick who local media, national media, and other teams’ beat reporters are raving about and who is stepping into a dream scenario in terms of skill players if you can’t let yourself get a little carried away?
  17. yeah but that’s no fun
  18. Stroud. Kyler and Lawrence are the two I was questioning but Lawrence was decidedly mediocre last year. Murray is three years removed from being a top tier QB but to your point, an awful roster, poor health and bad coaching have all been factors in that. There’s reason to believe in a bounce back for him.
  19. It was Wendy’s. Free White Sox ticket when you “biggie size” your meal. I still remember the commercial with Ozzie.
  20. Is it getting carried away to say the Bears have the QB advantage in 8 of their first 9 games this year? Because I think they very well might.
  21. I got in the car when he was in the midst of talking about it, so didn’t hear the full story, but he said something along the lines of his doctor told him if this was twenty years ago, his prognosis would have been extremely bleak for his particular form of prostate cancer. Recent research has apparently come a long way.
  22. Ryno just announced on the Score’s Radiothon (raising money for cancer research) that he had his final radiation treatment and rang the bell this morning.
  23. I’m ok with missing out on him given his age. I’m very happy to see Poles is still aggressively working to upgrade the roster at this stage of the offseason.
