  1. I wouldn't be concerned because he isn't a long term solution, and most of his value is derived from obp, not slugging, and he has maintained his obp. what's his line drive numbers like? I would be far more concerned about the lack of power out Abreu. His LD% is a little down from last year, a little up from '04. Abreu's power has gone down from being a great slugger, to merely pretty decent. Clark has gone from having not much power to not any. Plus Abreu has 50+ points in OBP that help ease the pain of fewer HR.
  2. I very may well have misread those charts, but doesn't that article also say that Griffey is the worst CF, A.Jones is below average, and Pierre is the 4th best? That's what it says.
  3. Anyone worried that Clark has hit nothing but singles this year?
  4. I see what you're saying, but Carroll? If cost effectiveness and patience is what you're looking for, just put Fontenot in there(who looks like a better version of Carroll looking at there minor league careers).
  5. With LA's young OF's, they may choose to let Cruz walk instead of picking up his 4M option. And Carroll isn't worth trading for. He's a 32 year old that can take a walk, but not hit for a lick of power outside of Coors. If that's the type of 2B option we want to go for, let's sign Adam Kennedy and get great defense out of that production at a younger age.
  6. BTW, thanks guys for no one yelling for me to stop. ERA doesn't mean a ton, especially by itself. Both Vazquez and Garcia have passable WHIPs, Vazquez in particular has pretty good peripherals(K/9, K/BB, opposing line against) with Garcia not terrible in that aspect either. They are worth more than a middle reliever.
  7. That's not true at all. If the Sox are stupid enough to trade a SP that's anywhere near decent for a middle reliever, than we should be happy to oblige them, whether it's getting the SP or a top C prospect like Kotteras in return. I think they feel they can sacrafice a starter b/c they want to open a spot for B-Mac in 2007, and you only need 4 starters for the playoffs. And Vazquez and Garcia are just benificiares of the White Sox high-powered offense. If they were on the Cubs, we'd be calling for their heads. I wouldn't want to give them bullpen help for a Garcia/Vazquez Yet they are still Starting Pitchers that don't completely suck, which means it is royally stupid to only command a middle reliever(someone who couldn't cut it as a SP) in return. And no one cares how it impacts the White Sox situation with McCarthy.
  8. It's because the people behind you want to be able to see the game.

  10. That Italian team are World Cup champs. I don't think anything else matters to them. That seems to be apparent, considering the way they went about doing it.
  11. i'm going july 28th to wrigley and i can't wait. I'm hoping to get tickets for one of the Cards games when we're on vacation that week, it'd be the first trip to Wrigley in 3 years after seeing them every year that I can remember previously.
  12. What's a myth is thinking those three stats tell you anything about a player defensively. http://www.baseballthinkfactory.org/files/rings/discussion/2006_defensive_ratings_through_june_22 Cedeno's been above average defensively.
  13. That's a lazy argument for people who won't/can't find a legitimate reason why Walker isn't any good. As far as the rest of the season goes, it depends on if you want Walker around next year. Don't trade him if you want him in the mix for the 2B job next year.
  14. For those interested, the Fire play FC Dallas at 3 CST followed by the USMNT in a friendly against Sweden at 5. Both games are on ESPN2.
  15. Maybe Todd Walker is trying to talk himself into a quick exit off of the team. Talk about not being able to shut your mouth. Add Walker to the list of players I can't wait for the Cubs to get rid of. I know I hate me some productive players. Seriously though, a player's media interaction should not impact their status on the team.
  16. This just isn't true.
  17. At least its good trash, not like the US team. No, it's dirty, dirty trash.
  18. It's times like this I wish I had all my Calvin and Hobbes scanned and archived so I could post the one where Calvin says "I'm not playing with a full deck", and Hobbes goes "that's been apparent for quite a while", then a pause, then Calvin says "HEY!". That would've been cool.
  19. How absolutely insane is it that Garcia or Vazquez are available for a middle reliever? With the Reds trade and rumors like this, there's at least some hope that we can begin the process of undoing Hendry's dismantling of the team by dealing at least some of our pen at the deadline.
  20. Okay, now this is just awkward.
