And once the end of spring training comes and you realize he can't play anywhere but first base anymore, what do you do until June 15 when you're allowed to trade him? He hadn't played more than half a season since 2003, and if he was healthy he probably would only be able to play where we had an MVP caliber player. There was plenty good reason not to pursue him after last season, and it's still valid considering the Cubs' injury troubles last year and considering Nomar hasn't shown an ability to play anywhere other than first(despite LA going to multiple options at 3B and LF).

Bill Hall is also a free agent after the season. Why we would want him considering that is beyond me though. Those were my thoughts as well. We can just sign Hall as a FA in the offseason. I'd ask for Hart or Gallardo. Then they might have to get in a bidding war with a team that needs a second basemen.....the Mets come to mind. Unless the Mets have a prospect coming up to play second that they want to use. Hall and his agent aren't stupid. There's little likelihood of him signing with the Cubs before testing free agency without a hefty contract. PS- Bill Hall is Alfonso Soriano without the hype. Interpret that how you will.

Pie career prior to this year K'ed in 20% of his PA's. This year so far it's just under 22%, not a huge difference. He was never supposed to be a leadoff hitter.

That 775 OPS between A+ and AA at almost age 26 doesn't quite do it for me. I'm fairly certain this is Braun's age 22 season. And I'd take anybody who's AVG and IsoP are ranked at around the 90th percentile, even if he isn't willing to take a walk. I'm pretty sure neither of those are near the 90th percentile this year. Edited to remove "fairly certain", I didn't even see you use that.

That 775 OPS between A+ and AA at almost age 26 doesn't quite do it for me. How can Ryan Braun be 26?!? He was just drafted last year out of Miami. Wow, the Baseball Cube is really messed up. There's two Ryan Brauns, and they're both completely off.

PERSONAL PREFERENCE, THERE IS NO RIGHT ANSWER In the interests of full disclosure though, I've never heard a Megadeath song(at least knowingly), I simply voted for them because of the Thome line and the fact that there's no way they'll win. -

Actually the exact opposite has been happening. Ever since the Nomar trade, Hendry has pretty much lost his mind.

Yeah, I say we start now with no time limit(although a good faith agreement to make a pick if you have time to do so), and then set some time limits if we need to speed it up as we get closer to training camp and such.

Every team in the NL West could potentially be looking for help come the trade deadline, with all 5 teams. What could we send there to help set us up for next year? Would Pierre and Jones net us Hawpe or Holliday? Would we be able to send Eyre back to SF? What would we want in return?
