  1. So you would take Freel or Clark over Wells? I think you guys are getting to caught up with the whole OBP. I would take the guy who hits around .300 with 30HR and 100RBI a year, over a guy like Freel or Clark who will only put up a .370 OBP. Wells does not hit .300/30/100 a year. EDIT: 2004: 17.6 LD%, .286 BABIP 2005: 18.8, .275 2006: 17.5, .322 Odds are he's not going to repeat those numbers. And considering the costs, I probably would take Clark and especially Freel.
  2. kickoff in Austin, lets go horns brb washing out mouth with soap
  3. Whoa, Don Baylor is the lead official for the ND-PSU game!
  4. Pie and Veal are probably in the top 50 of all of baseball after this season. yep, and that package could be easily beaten. Sure, that doesn't mean the prospects aren't there though.
  5. No it doesn't. Some systems that are loaded can, but the Cubs are not devoid of high end talent. Do you think if they trade Cabrera they're going to get a package of all position players? Pie is still a stellar prospect, one of the best in the game. His improvement through the season is anything but meh.
  6. really stupid by that Penn State gunner not to fall on the ball, cost them possession of that fumble
  7. Pie and Veal are probably in the top 50 of all of baseball after this season.
  8. I said the exact same thing during the game. I thought he should've at least rolled out some to try and open up some receivers. That's something that will come with experience though.
  9. Most definitely. I was really surprised/impressed at how one-sided the game was, especially when Ole Miss had the ball. They didn't crack 100 total yards until the 4th quarter, and their only TD came after Mizzou fumbled away a punt and gave them a short field. I wish Pinkel would get Woods off of punt return. Last week he was calling fair catch when he had running room, and this week he wouldn't call it and was getting drilled, and cost us the shutout. I like that guy who was doing it at the end of the game, #13 I believe. Pig Brown, he had a decent return, then took one to the house that got called back. Although, to be fair, Brown had much better blocking on his returns, in the first half Ole Miss's gunners were getting right to Woods every time.
  10. Vernon Wells has hit .300 twice in 5 full seasons. Same with 30 HR, and RBI means nothing. Wells has also had a .340+ OBP twice in 5 seasons. Career years do not equal a players ability to repeat that performance.
  11. Most definitely. I was really surprised/impressed at how one-sided the game was, especially when Ole Miss had the ball. They didn't crack 100 total yards until the 4th quarter, and their only TD came after Mizzou fumbled away a punt and gave them a short field.
  12. Yeah, I'm aware that Zito's perceived value is that high, but Sulley was saying it was justified.
  13. Yes! A Missouri response! Whaddaya think about tomorrow. I'm really worried. I'll drink some black and gold kool-aid and go Mizzou 31 Ole Miss 21, although my confidence level isn't very high. haha, I made the same score prediction elsewhere. To me, the defensive lines decide it. Ours is deep, fast, and talented, and theirs is young. That means we're going to be able to get pressure to keep Schaeffer uncomfortable(we fans need to introduce him to road life in Division I too) and keep Green-Ellis from going nuts. On the other side, after watching what Memphis was able to do, I like Temple to have another strong day, and Daniel's accuracy to carry the air game. At least that's what I'm telling myself. Either way, it should be a fun atmosphere tomorrow.
  14. I don't think that's an entirely fair assessment. In Option 1, the reason you wouldn't be able to bring back Barrett/Prior/Wood is because you invested so much into Soriano and Zito. However, those guys aren't stop gaps, they're investments for several years of putting up good production. Getting Gary Matthews to play over Pie isn't going to keep the Cubs from retaining the pieces they need in the future.
  15. Calm down Snood. Z-O-U!
  16. I say NO to Zito because he will command too much money and IMO not worth it for a 3.5era pitcher. I would love to have Schmidt but only for a 2 year deal which is unlikely. I would like to see Lilly to be honest. Z, Hill, Lilly, Guzman, Prior/Mateo/Marmol/Marshall Yeah, it's not the best rotation but it might work out. zito has a career 3.54 era in the AMERICAN LEAGUE. his career era+ is 129, quite worthy of whatever contract he is offered. He's going to command about 15 million per year. No way in the world is he worth that. He's not an "elite" pitcher. Plus, he's not going to come to Chicago. It's not even worth discussing. you know this for a fact, or are you just speculating? he's 28, has 101 big league wins, a 129 era+ and not an "elite" pitcher? Yes. Zito will get 15 a year. Boston will need to spend to get themselves out of the Beckett trade fiasco, and the Yankees simply don't care what they spend as long as they get the player they want. It will be a massive bidding war. i don't think he'll get that much, but even if he does, he's worth it. I don't understand how Zito is worth even close to 15 million. The guy is having his best year in 3 years, and a big part of his value is being able to eat innings and not get hurt, yet he barely cracks the top 15 in VORP for SP. He'll be 29 early next season so he's already into his prime too. I don't see the justification for him being paid so much.
  17. I don't think this is true at all.
  18. Outshined changed his name too. I figure after future seasons we'll make the distinction.
  19. This is the play-in series, round of 64 starts next week.
  20. That should take care of last year, shouldn't it?
  21. No it isn't. It's a stupid play. They should've been able to get that challenge on the field much quicker than they did. And even then, Pitt still has the ball at the 1 yard line, although I was bummed because it was another wasted opportunity to get Parker 6 points.
  22. Nooo, Parker gets taken out after getting so close to the end zone. And they fumble away the snap.
  23. Oh wow, that's awesome. More fun procrastinating from some Accounting homework.
  24. I believe Hill' going to turn out to be the stronger of the two, a solid 3, maybe even a 2 someday. Don't see that for Marshall... I highly doubt many saw Marshall as more than a really good #4 at best...maybe a #3, but not likely. But I could be mistaken. Marshall's ceiling is higher than a back of the rotation guy. But you may have been talking about for this/next season, in which case I agree.
  25. Similar idea, but I like getting a good RF and moving Jones to LF w/ Murton, getting that 2B that leads off, and playing Pie.
