  1. Again though, how much of "pitching and defense" is pitching, and how much is defense? If you think they're equal then that's fine, but if they're not it's deceiving to put them together.
  2. Alright, expectations have moved up from "score a point" to "don't give up more than 300 yards rushing". I'm really putting the pressure on, Tampa.
  3. In the 4 straight wins over the Yankees they averaged over 6 runs per game. EDIT: Crappy math, point remains.
  4. Of "DEFENSE and PITCHING", how much do each play a part, in your opinion? 50/50, 60/40, etc.
  5. Boston scored 6 runs per game in the '04 world series, not that any 4 game span really proves that concept.
  6. Of course, Tejada is much much much better offensively and still average defensively. Ozzie and Omar were extraoardinary defenders but were well below average offensively. Plus, when you consider offense makes up more of the game than defense it's a real easy decision.
  7. I like this part better: http://img103.imageshack.us/img103/9869/budseligpm5.jpg bud_is_wiser: /groan And...wait, what the hell is this? You also wrote an underlined number 6 on this ball. http://img158.imageshack.us/img158/8607/peteroseng5.jpg charlie_hustle: i got banned from the sport of lottery so i was playin bootleg pick 6
  8. Hudson's 2006 looks pretty fluky. Compared to 2005, he has a very similar batting line against, a similar K rate and walk rate, a simlar FIP, and his batted balls aren't much different. However, this is the second year he's been worse than his time in Oakland, coinciding with his move to the NL. So I don't think his 2006 performance is here to stay(ERA and WHIP-wise at least), but I don't think you see him return to his AL levels.
  9. I trust them more than Range Factor or UZR. What do you use? UZR was the gold standard when it was still updated. There's several on BTF that use PBP data(count the rings, PMR, etc.) Range factor is garbage. There was a comparison someone did a while back about several different metrics, I'll try to find the link.
  10. Davenport translations aren't very good.
  11. I remember that game. The timekeeping "mistake" was pretty blatant, but what a finish. That was also the year MSU was actually good from beginning to end and beat Florida in the Citrus Bowl if I remember correctly. That incident was blown out of proportion. What is forgotten is that MSU should actually still have had a timeout, because the referees were tardy calling a 12 men on the field penalty on UM during that final drive. I love that rational. Blown calls that favor Mich. establish a "pattern", but blown calls that go against Mich. are "blown out of proportion". There's a logical inconsistency there. A blown call is a blown call. I never once commented about UM getting calls aside from that post. People have talked about the timekeeper incident for a long time, and it's always missed that they should've had a timeout. When it happened even the announcers were talking about it.

  13. With a special foreword: How I eradicated 2002 from Jacque Jones' memory by Mad Scientist McGhee
  14. Even though MSU has dominated them in that series for basically a decade? And the game is at MSU?
  15. Landon Donovan has so much talent, and he's wasting it in MLS, and hurting the USMNT in the process. ESPN the Mag had a more in depth article about Donovan prior to the World Cup. I can't say that I blame him if he is much happier playing here. Would you leave your friends and family for a better job overseas in a crummier place? It sucks that he won't be the player he can be because of it, but I can't begrudge him for placing his quality of life over the advancement of his career.
  16. Theriot has 5 HR in over 2300 Minor League plate appearances. His IsoP is an almost humorous .066. He was old for his leagues too, he simply hasn't shown any ability to hit for power. Well, power isn't the "end all/be all" to making a ballplayer. There are plenty of solid players with little to no power...guys like David Eckstein, Mark Loretta have made careers out of playing the game hard, and playing it right. Besides power is a requirment out of 2B, unless you have a Jeff Kent/Jose Vidro/ type 2b. Theriot for 2b in 07. Even lightweights like Eckstein and Loretta had minor league IsoP's pushing .100. Power is a requirement out of every position, some you're able to get more than others, but hitting as few XBH's as Theriot does just isn't going to cut it. If he's the only option we might as well bring up EPatt and see if he isn't overmatched before trotting out Theriot regularly. Or play Mike bloody Fontenot, even though he came down with a mysterious injury at the end fo the year. Yeah, let's bring somebody up to the ML too early and have him fail. That's a brilliant idea. I've seen that ending before. That's why I said "and see if he isn't overmatched". Give EPatt a couple hundred PA's to start the year if we can't find anyone else. If he can't do anything, then send him back down, I didn't say put EPatt at 2B and keep him there until he leaves for free agency. Or, again, put Fontenot and his superior minor league career on the 40 man and give him a shot.
  17. What people are saying is that our offense is so bad we can't afford to give him that chance. And if we give up on next season, then there are players more deserving than Theriot that should get a shot.
  18. It seems like there's a difference in what exactly is being debated. Mojo seems to be talking in terms of "IF a player isn't going to hustle, I'm not going to thrash him for it", while others are saying "why can't the player hustle?" Anyone else see the difference in tense there?

  21. Things looking good at halftime, only 1 point combined from the 4 players I'm interested in. A TD run would be nice from Parker though. Or maybe the JAX defense picking off Roethlisberger. EDIT: 2-0! A chance to put Raw in a real bind next week too.

  23. With those three wins, I've already got the ZOU penciled in for a January BCS game. OU and Texas both have lost!!! That's obviously what was being said. Crimeny, all anyone did was show some optimism about what the season may hold, and Cuse was the one that started the conversation for crying out loud. I mean, I can understand hawkeyecub being bitter about the potential matchup they lost(I wasn't around when the situation happened, but from what I have heard there's more to it than you're implying), but I don't get it otherwise.
