  1. High ankle sprain, out a couple weeks I think. I thought that was Jamar Smith. Or are they all wearing low-tops now. You're right. Nothing happened to Randle I'm guessing then. Smith is out 4-6 weeks with a high ankle sprain and Randle is week-to-week with a groin injury.
  2. Down 4 to UNC with under 5 left. On ESPN for those interested.
  3. Pierre grounded out to second, 4-3
  4. Gonzalez is this offseason.
  5. Apparently. Jennings is coming off a good season, and has historically been held down by Coors field. Meche plays half his games in a huge pitcher's haven and sucks away from Safeco, and even worse he can't throw strikes(which wouldn't matter what park you're in).
  6. With McCann's emergence and Saltalamacchia's down year, I don't think you'd have to. I would inquire without trading Barrett actually. I don't think I would want to extend Barrett after this year so I would let him start and then either trade him or just let him walk next year for a draft pick (they still get picks next year, right?) I wasn't really referring to the possibility of (not) having Barrett. I was saying since McCann put up great numbers and Salty didn't hit all that well, you could get him cheaper than he may actually be worth.

  8. If you're trading Izturis and getting Lugo, then play Pie and let Lugo play the position where he's very good defensively.
  9. Christina Kahrl has never liked any transaction that has ever been made.
  10. He needs to do it more than once. Every possible bit of evidence points to '06 being a fluke season.
  11. The Cubs have 3 left at their disposal. There were more than 62 Type A/B FAs. I don't agree UK unless the Cubs and Ramirez's agent can document the signing took place during the free agency election period. If it didn't, Ramirez and DeRosa both count against the quota. I don't think Ramirez ever could've counted against the quota.
  12. Question: Is it "nipp" or "kuh-nipp"? I've heard both.
  13. You know you've got a convincing argument when Vitale is on board.
  14. Good for Al. Nice to see him have success, especially when he committed as a DB rather than a RB.
  15. I don't know how you can say that. DeRosa averages what, 10 homers and 50 RBI's a season? Soriano can triple his HR totals and he can double DeRosa's RBIs. Average and OBP wise, he matches up with Soriano, but that's about it. You missed the point. DeRosa was crappy for two years then good for one, and now he's getting paid like a good player. Soriano was good for two years and great for one, and people are clamoring for him to get paid like a great player. Soriano has had good numbers for 4 of his 6 full-time years in the big leagues. The only years that he struggled were his rookie year, where he only had an OBP of .304 and his final year with Texas where he had an OBP of .309. While those are pretty crappy years, the other 4 years have been pretty decent for Soriano. While last year was his highest in terms of OBP and HR's, he had three seasons with a higher average. Soriano deserves to get paid...maybe not $16 million a year money, but he's going to get that nonetheless because teams are going to be desperate to add a guy that can not only hit for power, but be a threat on the basepaths. DeRosa meanwhile has only had 1 good season in his career. I just think comparing Soriano and DeRosa is comparing apples to oranges. I think you need to read the post again, I don't know how else to rephrase it than what I just said. DeRosa was crappy for two years then good for one, and now he's getting paid like a good player. Soriano was good for two years and great for one, and people are clamoring for him to get paid like a great player.

Soriano was good for two years and great for one, and people are clamoring for him to get paid like a great player. Not to nitpick TT, but he is not getting paid like a great player. $4.3MM is not chump change, but it will hardly be a huge drag on the payroll in future years. Also, is there any indication that DeRosa did something different last year that helped him turn the corner? His numbers last year are pretty significant improvements and while his last 100abs were pretty bad, he sustained pretty good numbers for the majority of the year. The bolded was talking about Soriano. DeRosa had a career year, his struggles at the end of the year point towards it as does his astronomically abnormal BABIP. My hope is that Jaramillo helped him with something to get an increase in power, and that it sticks with Jackson's tutelage. That combined with a slightly lucky BABIP season could possibly get a .270/.330/.430 out of DeRosa.

  18. I don't think anyone's saying that Theriot is going to reproduce his 900+ OPS from this year. However, his minor league numbers point to him being able to get on base some, which is obviously a valuable skill. DeRosa's past doesn't have any of that promise.
  19. Durham is so vastly superior to DeRosa it's not even worth a comparison. Durham regressing from a career year still puts up a .350+ OBP. DeRosa regressing from a career year maybe gives you .320.
