  1. If Bob Sanders was playing the Colts would have won. If Bob Sanders was playing, the Cowboys would cease to exist. How about Ditka? What if he were playing?!? trick question. Ditka is the game.
  2. How dare you try to bring logic into this thread. anyway..... So what's your favorite planet? Mines the sun. It's like the KING OF PLANETS! We all know that the moon isn't in fact made out of blue cheese, but I'll ask you this. If the Moon were made outta barbecue spare ribs, WOUDYA EAT IT? I know i would. I'd go back for seconds and wash it down with an ice cold budweiser! 1997 was quite a year. a lot of stuff happened. some good, some bad. mother teresa died. that was bad, unless you hated mother teresa. I myself was not a fan of hers, don't ask why. we were like oil and water, we didn't mix
  3. complete stream of consciousness from every poster involved in the thread.
  4. we need to add an alfonsOWNED to that
  5. Ummm...hello! ^^^OldLOL please don't ban me http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v432/CapnWalrus/Dugout/ClemensHater.png *this was the one on already up on the dugout page when I got there, destiny
  6. Is that chick having butt sex with a cat? The cat looks so.......defeated.
  7. Guaranteed that Outshined is wasted.
  8. Right on, man! All this twaddle about "stats" is just one more attempt by our oppressively monolithic Western culture to subvert your deep-seated natural instincts and to denigrate the rightful primacy of your sociocultural background and condition by subjugating you with it's fascistic "ideas" and "facts." This cult of heartless, dreamkilling fascists plots to rip us out of the rich cultural tapestry into which we were born, and to rend us from the abiding connection to our cultural roots which is the source of all truly abiding nourishment and sustenance. Thousands of endangered sac bunts die every day, and what do we do? But you can see through this--you and perhaps you alone can see through their imperalistic claims of "objective truth" and obsession with illusory "facts." You and perhaps you alone can see that they wish to tear you from your natural impulses-- the exhilaration of exciting plays unmediated by reflection. You and St. Morgan may be our last hope-- to protect the sanctity of pristine baseball-in-the-moment experience and anecdotes-around-the-fire from the fetid conspiracy of these boot-licking statistics lovers! Down with the fascism of facts! Or not. There's about a dozen sig-worthy quotes in there.
  9. Who said Soriano is not a good player? I must have missed that. Barrett is good, let's give him that 7/$100 contract that was suggested earlier HAHAHA I believe that was a TT post you are referring to and in that post he says (I'm quoting from memory) "Soriano is a good player getting paid like an elite player" So taht was about the poorest post to quote if you are countering my claim that no one said said soriano is not a good player (although im not exactly sure thats what you are trying to do). Pretty sure he's agreeing with you.

  11. July 31, 1998: Traded by the Chicago Cubs with Todd Noel (minors) and Kevin Orie to the Florida Marlins for Felix Heredia and Steve Hoff (minors).
  12. exactly right. theyre trying to find a random detail that makes soriano better 1 run. When in fact there's the differences in the contracts and the added flexibility lugo would have given us compared to soriano. oh wait i cant assume that lugos contract will be less than sorianos according to jjgman21. Silly me. I give you permission. Now incorporate Izturis's salary sitting on the bench and carry on. Not with Cleveland(Westbrook, Lee) and Boston(outfielders, Crisp, Pena? Manny?) looking for a defensive SS.
  13. You should meet my friend, Mr. Facts. Hmmm, Mr. Facts shows that out of 8 seasons for Drew, 4 of them were seriously hampered due to injury and 2 others were less than 140 games. That's what is known in the real universe as a player with injury problems. He already separated the two.
  14. I don't think we know for sure. There's been reports of straight 8/135, and other reports of 6/90 with 2 option years(player, team, or mutual we do not know).
  15. I think it would be interesting if you tried to support that argument.
  16. Probably is the key word there. You, nor I know what could have been done and how much money could have/have not been spent. It isn't our money, if the Trib wants to spend it then let them. Actually I am certain it could have been done. The Cubs got an EqA of roughly .208 from their SSs last season in 486 outs. Julio Lugo's career EqA is .265. The difference between those two over 486 outs is roughly 41 runs. The actual should be higher because for the most part Lugo's been a better hitter the last couple of seasons. The Cubs got an EqA of roughly .250 from their CFers last season in 526 outs. Alfonso Soriano's career EqA is .287. The difference between those two over 526 outs is roughly 30 runs. Julio Lugo could be had for what, 32 million max? Soriano was had for what, 100 million more. You can say shove EqA in your ass all you want. You can do this with any stat and find a similar outcome. But comparing to what SS did last year isn't really the proper comparison. It makes more sense to compare to what could reasonably be expected out of SS this year, which is a hell of a lot better than .208 just on a dead cat bounce. but that would detract from his thesis. I'm pretty sure this got covered 30 pages ago. ChiCubsFan or WrigleyField22 or somebody else brought it up.
  17. Ouch, Nocioni really ate it on that one.
  18. unrelated, but I was looking at Pie's splits from this year and noticed his BABIP was .342!! That doesn't give me much confidence in his 282 BA. http://www.minorleaguesplits.com/cgi-bin/pl.cgi?pl=429712 Per that same page, the league average is about 20 points higher than MLB, so it's not nearly as troubling a sign as a major leaguer having a BABIP that high(say, Mark DeRosa). Didn't DeRosa have a high LD% as well? Yes, but LD% isn't particularly predictable, and DeRosa has never had a BABIP near that high, so it's still a cause for concern. That's a topic for a different 60 page thread though.

  20. I'm just wondering what the infatuation with Crisp is? He doesn't hit for average, doesn't get on base all that often, has a low SLG%, and doesn't seem like he'd be all that beneficial to the team. I'd rather sign Roberts and trade Izturis and Eyre for a SP instead. I think the big thing people who want Crisp believe is that he had injury issues(hand, maybe?) that suppressed his numbers last year. His previous two years(.297/.344/.446 & .300/.345/.465) look much better, plus he's now entering his prime years.
  21. It was only copy/paste, had this come later in the week when boredom had fully set in though.....
