  1. I don't doubt that Hughes is a fantastic scout. I'm sure that he has a near unparalleled eye for talent. But that's not what a GM does. I don't really care if people have qualms about statistical evaluations, it's not perfect, etc. etc. My problem is when people dismiss things out of hand without exploring their value. From both the quotes in the roundtable and that Bruce provided, I don't think there's any reason to expect that if Hughes were the GM he'd put very much stock into true statistical analysis(not just "hey this guy has an OBP higher than that guy, he must be better"). I guess you could say that since he's always been on the scouting end that he's never needed to explore that, but since as a GM you need a balance of the two and Hughes doesn't really show a respect for that balance, he'd be a very poor choice for GM.
  2. It's one sentence among an article about Bonds signing with SF. Link It's just repeating the previous rumors.
  3. I don't disagree. been saying that since June. but I don't understand why now is the time. Because now it's becoming more clear how much Moore values guys that have the physical makeup to be great players, even if the performance aspect isn't there.
  4. I just threw up a little in my mouth. Why is that? Because his comments in the past have shown a startling lack of ability in how to be a good GM. It'd be comical if he wasn't already on our team.
  5. Time to put together a package of toolsy position players and pitchers with good stuff for DeJesus.
  6. Fun Fact: Baldelli is only a week older than Murton.
  7. His standup isn't that bad. I like it when he talks about getting beat up by his girlfriend and when his mom splashes him with holy water.
  8. What do you think it would take? I dunno. If they really are disillusioned with him and think of Young as their #1, maybe we don't need to sell the farm. I'd pull no punches trying to get him though. You want Hill? Sure. Pie? Veal? Murton? None of those guys are off limits.
  9. If Peavy is remotely available, go all out to get him.
  10. no, please keep that door closed I felt just like that about Suppan but some pointed out his numbers and he wasn't that bad. Post all-star last year he had a 2.5ish era. so because of that we're willing to overlook the other 10 years that he was just an average pitcher? He is what he is, don't go fooling yourself into thinking he's good. Did you not just say: "I guess I value a league-average pitcher who has made all his starts for five years in a row."? not for 4/$40M I don't But you do for 2/$22 + several trading chips?

  12. Didn't he already re-up in Japan?
  13. Honestly, how do they get away with this stuff? I saw Holy Cross called for a 5 second call when Paulus was 5 feet away from the guy, and I saw a basket get taken away for interference when a Duke guy tipped it. It's obscene.
  14. He pounded the ball in the second half, and his .060 IsoD is far from a disaster.
  15. So what of the public reports that Hendry is going after him?
  16. It means it's time to overpay in people instead of money. There's been rumors with names like Peavy, Harden, Hudson, Duke, and more. Obviously some of it is just wishful rumor-mongering, but somebody will be out there.
  17. More outfielders for the Dodgers? Colletti is legally stupid if he signs Gonzalez.
  18. Missouri is 9-0 as well. They should be, with the piss-poor schedule they've played so far. 44th of 336 ranked schedule All home games and only 1 game against the RPI top 50, but only 1 game against a 201+ RPI team. It's been far from a joke, and they play Purdue, Illinois, and Mississippi State before conference play starts.
  19. We could've had Drew + Durham cheaper than Soriano + DeRosa, and had a shorter long-term commitment too. Argh.
