  1. This always seemed like the biggest disconnect in the reaction to the whole thing, to me. Once it came out that Fanatics had made the uniforms for years from the same factory, and that this was an intentional new design from Nike, then the problem pretty clearly points to poor design and testing moreso than getting mad at Fanatics because they have a crappy consumer reputation.
  2. boy the repeated amateur hour camerawork paired with the extremely fluky run scoring has made this a pretty unpleasant viewing experience
  3. The winning outcome is probably Wesneski and Keegan bridging to the back end of the pen, which is all very well rested. If things aren't going as well you then use the new call ups unless you're worried about one or two of the back end guys getting rusty(Almonte is on 4 days rest, Leiter/Alzolay on 3).
  4. Brad Wieck at Iowa this year: 11.2 IP, 9 H, 3 R, 15/1 K/BB, 2 HR
  5. Red Sox have their own injury crisis too with Giolito, Bello, Pivetta, and Whitlock all down. Winckowski was probably as low as 9th on their rotation depth chart as late as opening day.
  6. It's the whole pen: https://www.fangraphs.com/leaders/major-league?pos=all&lg=all&qual=0&ind=0&rost=0&filter=&player=&season=2024&season1=2024&team=17&stats=rel&type=0&month=2
  7. can't expect Busch to pick that, the wide and in between hop is a really tough play
  8. Crawford's throwing mechanics look horrific with the wrist wrap, how does he get major league velocity doing that
  9. boy that is quite the tantrum for Devers to throw on a 1-0 pitch that rattled him the rest of the at bat
  10. That is quite the line Mr. Wilkinson has even before starting tonight with 6 K
  11. I think Assad staying in the rotation is a 'problem' that solves itself. Today is a perfect illustration that's clear he's gonna take the ball every 5th day ahead of Brown and Wesneski for various reasons. So the only thing knocking him out of the rotation is the return of both Steele and Hendricks, and maybe not even then with how they've nodded towards a 6 man rotation. And in the time until Steele and Hendricks are both ready, someone else could get hurt(including Assad), Assad's form could dip, or they could just keep him in the pen and use him like Wesneski/Brown are being used now. Upstream of this conversation is about what it means to be 'in the rotation'. I thought Boog had an excellent visual last night where he said that on this roster guys do not walk around with a metaphorical wrestling belt labeled "starter" that earns them 5 innings every 5 days. Assad is clearly not going to go down, and it's clear that Counsell has trust in him to eat innings, so he'll continue doing that in some fashion even if all the other pieces get healthy and productive.
  12. Prior to today, his Z-contact% by week hadn't changed by more than 2% in any given week(thur-wed), so doesn't look like it.
  13. Abreu coughing up a game to the Cubs before the Astros give up on him and trade him to the Cubs at the deadline would be a great bit
  14. Tough read considering he was running on the play and the route to the ball makes it an even shorter throw to first.
  15. This was back in the 2nd that I noticed it, pitch clock is a good thought. I thought he was looking close enough to the plate that I'd notice from the CF angle, but maybe not.
