  1. the weak contact basically every at bat is such a bummer
  2. Most people did want 2 years instead of 3, though I'm not sure how many people thought that 3 was a dealbreaker. AAV was maybe slightly higher than expected but only by a million or two, and he signed early in the offseason before we were calibrated on what FAs were making that offseason.
  3. How do you feel about using less scalable/automated options? E.g. segment all articles in their own forum immediately, and rely on the author, moderators, or good samaritans to cross-post to existing discussion threads when they exist?
  4. A lot of us really wanted Abreu, especially instead of the hodgepodge solution the 2023 Cubs had at 1B. He's now at 671 PA as an Astro with a 74 wRC+, and is under contract at 19.5M AAV through *next year*.
  5. Agreed with Bertz that the state of conversation feels pretty good, though we'll see what happens when the team isn't playing at a 100 win pace(injuries or not). Also agree that figuring out something better for the offseason would be a nice improvement. Related to that second point, the main thing I notice is that I'd love for there to be a little more seamless integration of articles when there's existing threads on that topic. An example of this cadence is that news breaks, someone starts a thread, it gets discussed a bit, then a couple hours later when e.g. Matt has had a chance to analyze that situation, an article gets posted as its own thread and fractures the conversation. I think there's been a time or two(probably in the offseason) when there's multiple articles on a topic that split things further. I know there's SEO motivations and architectural reasons for how articles get treated, but I'm guessing there's a way to find a middle ground where that analysis is incorporated into existing conversations when they exist, rather than forking the dialogue.
  6. Manaea is rough on LHH and is the only LHSP the Cubs are slated to face until after the off day. Won't be surprised if they empty the bench, Madrigal to 3B, Canario to RF, Wisdom to 1B.
  7. Finally stopped trying to throw the strike-to-ball splitter and immediately mowed him down
  8. what story will you tell your grandkids about being alive to see Mike Tauchman play
  9. Busch looks a lot more comfortable with the backhand picks, which is unfortunate considering his forehand picks come from Morel and the backhands come from Nico.
  10. swing through it again as long as you don't GIDP, that's where we are Matt
  11. Boog roasting random New Yorkers outta nowhere
  12. The catch probability of that ball was definitely less than the 99-100% that PCA just made it look like
  13. oh so we're just gonna go spit in god's face then huh, that's how we're gonna play it when Dansby comes down with club foot and Assad goes blind in one eye after a freak gasoline fight accident, we'll know who is responsible
  14. To that end, LHH are 2 for 17 against Wesneski in his 2024 time in Chicago. Only 1 K, but that can be forgiven for bottom line progress, especially when his GB% is north of 50% to both sided hitters and he's got 1 BB in 10.1 IP.
  15. Hard to say if this will hold true, but right now in the Pirates series they're set to face 2 LHSP, so they could potentially give Happ 2 of 3 or 3 of 4 days(including the off day) with Canario alone. Tauchman has started 9 straight too so definitely some days to go around. Especially with Cooper gone that means that 2 of PCA/Canario/Mervis don't have to go down when Bellinger returns, and one could stay safe even after Seiya does. If Peralta starts swinging the bat that could change though, or maybe if they're cutting bait on Mervis for now they bring up Casali into a Torrens-like role to acclimate him to the staff while they have the roster flexibility?
  16. Aliendo get's a mention on this Athletic article on 20 prospects off to fast starts: https://theathletic.com/5456544/2024/04/29/underrated-minor-league-prospects-matt-wilkinson/
  17. Statcast says it went 180 feet, only about 10 feet further than Madrigal's pop up to Dalbec in the top half. Remember, Swanson was on the infield grass so our point of reference for his retreat to the ball is very different than normal.
  18. He gave up a 7 pitch walk, a single to Rafael Devers, and sawed off O'Neill. Not ideal but not exactly looking broken out there.
  19. Amaya as the potential 10th inning runner is a bummer, wonder if they'd consider running for him
