He doesn't have much of a Home/Away split, so he's not thriving on Dodger Stadium. His defense is bailing him out a bit though, he's giving up a 20.2 LD% and only a .268 BABIP. I wonder if teams will figure him out though, the first time through the order teams hit only .202/.235/.287/.522 off him, improving to .266/.330/.380/.709 the second time and .288/.354/.411/.765 the 3rd time. Unfortunately no team has gotten to face him twice yet this season, so there's no evidence along those lines. -

It was an 8 pitch at bat, not indicative of a guy who can't find the plate with a map. Do you not agree that it was a good pitch to hit? Since it was a reliever, tiring the guy out isn't an issue, and getting a pitch that good to hit probably wouldn't come again in that at bat. Taking a pitch simply because you don't think you should swing is letting the pitcher off the hook. -

Dont forget the part where Soriano walked right in front of Theriot, and then Theriot swings at the 1st pitch. Smart Ryan smart. It was a good pitch to hit, and with the bases loaded you're supposed to look to swing at the first pitch. It's not like Park walked Soriano on 4 straight pitches nowhere near the zone either. With the bases loaded you are supposed to swing at the first pitch, huh? Since when is this a rule? Every "ball" he threw to Soriano was not close to the zone, hence Soriano walking, had they been close you know Sori would have been hacking. You look for a fastball to drive on the first pitch with the bases loaded, because you're likely to get one since the pitcher really doesn't want to fall behind and feel the pressure of walking a run in. Sure enough, Theriot got a fastball right over the plate, and couldn't do anything with it. Doesn't make his decision to swing a bad one though. -

hahaha Edmonds, completely abandoning center field since he knows Pierre can't get around on Wood's fastball if he started swinging during the warmup pitches.

That sucks because we don't know when we'd get to face Miami. I wonder if Jamieson throws Gibson at Ole Miss and then Crow at (most likely) Miami if we can win the first one, or if he tries to come close to the auto-win by throwing Crow at Ole Miss.

Iowa won 9-2. EPatt was 3/4 with a triple, Murton 0/2 with 2 BB, and Pie an unfortunate 0/5 with a K. Randy Wells had a nice outing, and has quietly had an impressive return to the rotation. 4 starts, 21 IP, 1.71 ERA, 0.95 WHIP, 17/6 K/BB, 0 HR, 1.04 GO/AO, and .184 BAA. Daytona lost 3-2. Tony Thomas and Mark Reed were both 2/3, Thomas with a 2B and Reed with a 3B. Maestri went 6 innings, 2 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 4 K Peoria also lost 3-2. Donaldson returned as a pinch runner. Chen had another good outing, 6 IP, 6 H, 2 ER, 4/0 K/BB. His numbers as a starter: 34 IP, 3.97 ERA, 0.97 WHIP, 23/7 K/BB, 2 HR, 1.22 GO/AO, .213 BAA -
I know he's nearly out of pitchers, but Volquez threw 92 pitches on Friday, it should be interesting to see if he rides him for a while.

Even so, you'd surely have to admit that he's not responsible for the Cubs losing, right? Only not winning in the 9th. Answer these 2 questions for me: If he catches that ball in the 9th, do the Cubs win? Did the Cubs win? If Fukudome hit the ball into the river every at bat, do the Cubs win? Did the Cubs win? Is Fukudome expected to hit the ball in the river every at-bat? Also, there is no guarantee the Cubs win if he hit a home run every at-bat. It's assumed, but not guaranteed. If Soriano catches the ball the game is 100% over. Okay, replace the HR in every AB with Fukudome hits the ball 1/8 inch lower on the barrel on his deep flyout, then it becomes a HR and we have 2 runs we didn't before. Do we win then?

I just watched another player with sunglasses on lose a ball in the sun. It was James Loney, and now the Cards have 1st and 3rd with one out as opposed to runner on 1st with 2 outs with Truffle-favorite Ryan Ludwick at the plate

He was staring straight into the sun, it happens. It sucks, and there's not much you can do about it, especially when you already have sunglasses on. Now, the "well Bay caught a fly ball an inning later" is the argument where you question whether or not people have played baseball. Trajectory is everything in those situations.

Anyone else notice Marmol walk off the mound without looking where the ball was going on the last out?

Lou, don't be a meathead, Marmol threw 30 pitches last inning, his arm is more important than any of the others.
