  1. You know who else is a better reliever than they've shown this year with great stuff? Mike Wuertz
  2. I've been bearish on DeRosa prior to each of the last two seasons, and am very happy that I've been wrong. Like has been said, he's an easy guy to root for.
  3. i understand the borderline offsides not being called, but that seemed pretty blatant to me. Ives' running commentary said an Italian defender had gone behind the goal. I'm not sure what the rule is on that, I'd think since they can come back on at any time that he'd be keeping anyone onside.
  4. The Italians are down 2 goals already? *quickly runs to http://www.isitchristmas.com * huh, who'da thought?
  5. No, they aren't normally good, so they get remembered when they do good things against the Cubs. Look at those two lists of players, one is comprised of good players, the other bad.
  6. You never saw me.
  7. Unless someone gets skipped with tomorrow's off day, it looks like Wed: Veal Thur: Watson Fri: Samardzija Sat: Russell Sun: Atkins
  8. I think this depends on what they want. The list of teams who would be willing to deal a player with as much MLB success as Rich Hill is quite short.
  9. I merged these two since they ended up being on the same topic.
  10. Look at the other side Jerry. Sabathia's ERA is pushing 5.00 and his WHIP is pushing 1.50.
  11. I don't think Wainwright is starting on Thursday.
  12. Ah yes, the reason we learned to hate Edgar Renteria. In my mind, it's all on the umpire, Jim Wolf. Oh, the ejection was on the umpire, no doubt, but Renteria followed it up with his antics on Fontenot while he stole second. I'm glad he's sucking in Detroit.
  13. Ah yes, the reason we learned to hate Edgar Renteria.
  14. well when others post things exactly like what you did there's no way to know your being sarcastic especially when you are the first to post. The smiley face or something would help though. I doubt any one on here actually thinks a thread on here can actually hold any kind of predetermination over how the Cubs do. It should have been obvious that it was sacrastic, some people in here need to lighten up. Anyone who has been a Cubs fan for more than a day should be aware by now of the teams history with perceived jinxes, whether they be billy goats, Bartman, or NSBB threads. If you can't draw that connection, then you've been living with your head in the sand. Now if you want to complain that the ruse is getting old, that's another story. Let's stop taking people so seriously when they suggest deleting and banning to jinx-type threads. I agree. That said, anyone who starts an injury update thread may or may not get accidentally permabanned.
  15. Alderson and Noonan both spent all of their age 18 season in Rookie ball.
  16. Giles? He doesn't play CF. If he can play right at Petco, he can probably play center at Wrigley well he's old, pretty slow, and to my knowledge never played CF. Plus Wrigley is one of the hardest if not the hardest to play OF because of the wind. At Petco it's just big. Giles has over 300 career games in CF. Wrigley is an easy CF because of the shallow alleys.
  17. 2B offense is not Milwaukee's problem. They need starters.
  18. Good grief, it's not like Dempster shows up to the ballpark thinking it's his day to start and then suddenly finds someone else's name in the lineup card. You tell him that he's been a huge asset to the rotation thus far, and that you want to keep it that way. So, since he hasn't thrown this many innings in a long time, and that can lead to injury or a dead arm, he's getting skipped by this off day to ensure he's still this great come September. That's easy to take from the player's perspective.
  19. I assume he's observing him more than just during the game when he's in center field. Is he going to the bullpen and catching his third day side session then? Either way, it's definitely a nice compliment, I just thought it might need to be tempered a bit given it didn't come from someone on the coaching staff or one of the catchers.
  20. Given the choice, I'd rather they skip Dempster. He hasn't thrown this many innings in years. Also, I like the compliment from Edmonds, but at the same time wonder how much of a difference in stuff he can tell from center field. He's been out there in every one of Gallagher's starts except two, and one of those he wasn't on the team yet.
  21. The Angels have 2 regulars with an OBP above .335. Gimme Boston if their pitching is reasonably healthy.
  22. I agree. Harden doesn't come with a big contract, so if you deal for him and he gets hurt, you're only out the players. If he is healthy, he's outstanding and you have him through 2009 when you can make a better decision on if you want to invest in his health or take the draft picks. If he completely falls apart, you don't even have to pay him next year(although the 7 million option isn't a terrible gamble for someone of his abilities).
  23. Mitchell is from Texas. In the scouting video MLB.com had, he wasn't consistently hitting 90.
  24. 8th best hitters park, and we haven't had too many games with the wind blowing out yet.
  25. Marmol has thrown twice in the last 5 games, neither outing going over 15 pitches, I think it's good to go to him when Marquis starts losing effectiveness. Consider him the Rowengartner to Marquis's Steadman.
