  1. wow, you have to score there
  2. Last year as a reliever in MLB: 15 IP, 15 H, 13/4 K/BB, 1 HR, .263/.317/.404/.721 line against (63 PA's) He was almost exactly the same as a starter(also 15 IP).
  3. Stephen Drew and Jered Weaver both waited nearly a year before signing with the Diamondbacks and Angels back when they were drafted. I don't think it's hurt either so far. Wasn't Vitters sick his senior year? He was good, then was sick, then was drafted (with the sickness used to explain his rather pedestrian performance), then sat out an entire summer. That's what I mean. Also Drew, Weaver, Weiters were college players. Why does college v. HS matter in that instance? Time not playing is time not playing, regardless of the competition you're coming from.
  4. All the stuff I'd read seemed to indicate he'd be at 2B before long(if not right away). I wouldn't say that not having the arm for SS means he wouldn't have a playable arm at C. They are different throws from very different distances.
  5. screw that, if he's effective let him help the bullpen down the stretch. That's his future anyway.
  6. The Cubs worked him out as a catcher, so I think that's what they had in mind when they took him, rather than flexibility as a supersub.
  7. I think there's something strange about the lake incident, but I don't think it went down exactly like Ced says either. This latest DWI only reinforces that hunch. Yeah, I think Benson kinda loses the benefit of the doubt with recent events.
  8. 4 starts all year where his ERA was below 5 for the start, and 4 starts where it was over 6 for the start. There may only be one disaster start in there by definition, but the lack of innings and stream of runs given up is pretty terrible.
  9. Good night for Pie, 2 for 4 with a double
  10. Awww, that would just be too bad. I never like to see someone injured, but you know -- it's about damn time the Cards starting having to deal with the consequences of just throwing random players into whatever role they feel like it regardless of whether the player is capable of handling that role or not. I'm still waiting for something to happen to Braden Looper. Looper is awful, he needs to stay as healthy as possible.
  11. This is what happens when I have to be at home during the summer. Boredom so intense I'm left to update the historical numbers for this league. 2007 Regular Season Standings: Team W-L Points Hochuli's Syringe 12-2 1170.13 The Lone Rangers 9-5 1018.63 Ditka's Army 9-5 897.68 Cut For Cap Space 8-6 1059.80 Ookie was Framed 8-6 1033.32 Burnt 6-8 811.67 The Football Team 5-9 814.74 Raw Dawgs 5-9 809.76 Smells Like Tuna 4-10 867.13 4th & Goal 4-10 761.88 Playoffs: Cut for Cap Space(TT) defeats Hochuli's Syringe(Wolf) The Lone Rangers(IMB) defeats Ditka's Army(Tobias) Cut for Cap Space(TT) defeats The Lone Rangers(IMB) Hochuli's Syringe(Wolf) defeats Ditka's Army(Tobias) Champion: Cut for Cap Space 2nd place: The Lone Rangers 3rd place: Hochuli's Syringe Cumulative records(Now including Playoff results!): Team W-L Pct. 2005 2006 2007 Wolf Stansson 13-3 .812 DNP DNP 3rd Transmogrified Tiger 32-17 .653 4th *1st *1st RoasttheD---Goat 23-21 .523 8th 2nd 7th Rawaction 23-21 .523 *1st 5th 8th Vance_the_Cubs_fan 24-22 .522 3rd 3rd 9th Burnt 22-22 .500 2nd 6th 6th Outshined_One 21-23 .477 9th 4th 5th IMB! 21-23 .477 7th 9th 2nd Chicubsfan 17-25 .405 6th 7th 10th UberGoober 11-17 .393 5th 10th DNP Tobias 17-27 .386 10th 8th 4th
  12. Cause if it didn't get recorded then he moves up to around 3rd place.
  13. Losing Alexander sucks, but I have enough faith that Perry or Andrew Jones impresses to pick up his slack. Alexander was actually a 3rd target anyway, behind Maclin and Coffman, and we still have Saunders around as a possession WR. Maybe someone like Kemp, Egnew, or Woodland can seize the opportunity now, like Alexander and Perry did with Maclin's redshirt.
  14. Soto will be fine once he adjusts to all the breaking pitches he's getting on the outer half. If he can keep dumping that pitch into RF once he has two strikes, like he did today, he'll be just fine.
  15. I think he was just pouting since the umpires took a home run away from him, and he hits a home runs once per leap year.
  16. UMFan fears success, we'll be 30 games over 500 in September and he'll be talking about it's not a team that can win in the playoffs. Seriously. The Cubs and Cards have played the same amount of home games. The Brewers are well on their way to being 13-20 on the road.
  17. People are really blowing this road game thing out of proportion. The Cubs, after losing 3 of 4 on the road, are tied for the 4th best road record in the NL. We're not the Braves(25-9 at home, 7-21 on the road).
  18. Wainwright just got taken out of the game, he walked off the field with the trainer.
  19. Do I need to go through baseballreference and find a list of teams with similar records through 60 games who weren't very good teams? I could probably find 10 examples from Cubs teams alone. The Reds did it for about 5 straight years not too long ago.
  20. Just think 2007 Cobs. Well no offense, but hopefully I can get an opinion from somebody who is actually objective. Offense looked better than last time against Lowe. I'll be really glad when we are done with this week in enormous ballparks though. Middle of the order isn't making a lot of great contact this week and it continued today. Z was quite good, gave up a HR to Martin(should've been a solo shot, thanks umpires) but was having a nice outing until he hit 100 pitches and fell apart and couldn't get 5 outs(thanks to Ramirez and Kosuke*) in the 7th. *Kosuke's play was quite difficult, but the ball hit the pocket of the glove, and he's made many more difficult plays this year.
  21. Stepping closer to Sabathia becoming available.
  22. Boy is Portugal annoying to watch. Don't come down with a 50/50 ball? Fall down. Get dispossessed? Fall down. Play defense and have someone back into/towards you? Fall down.
  23. Kemp, Gonzalez, and Vitters would make for an exciting infield, one that I imagine would be rounded out by a draftee like Ridling or Keedy(apologies if either of those are spelled wrong).
