    Someone pointed out in another thread that the answer to your first question is no. You don't have to use the DH, but if you do it has to be for the Pitcher.

    People hold their knees and legs because it frakking hurts to be running full speed and then get knocked to the ground, or have someone kick you in the ankles or slide into your legs when you're running and cutting. I think the view of someone embellishing a foul has colored the opinion of what a typical foul looks like. I know the actual fouls can hurt. I'm not talking about those. Then you're talking about something that happens very rarely.

    That seems like an awful fine line to draw. Most dives in soccer don't add any time. The player may roll around on the ground sometimes, but the ball wouldn't have been put in play anyway because the team is getting in position for a set play, or just getting forward for the free kick.

    Yep. Although it can depend on the teams. The US v. Germany in Soccer probably won't have as many flops as any Duke home game in basketball.

    If the Mets and Braves win today, then the Cubs are 12-10 against teams .500 or better. Not an issue for me.

    I was at the Cardinal game last night. Really boring game for the most part, no dominating pitching, and the only extra base hit before the 7th inning was a fly ball that DeJesus lost in the lights. I did get to see Guillen gun down Ludwick at 3rd on the next play though, and then came the home runs. Gordon absolutely smoked his. Really weak crowd for StL-KC, they said 43k, but there couldn't have been more than 30k there.

    Tim Alderson is a pitcher, and threw 5 IP his age 18 season. In Rookie Ball. Noonan also spent his entire age 18 season in Rookie ball. Adrian Gonzalez was the number 1 pick, and only got 29 ABs in Low A at age 18(after hitting .295/.396/.358/.754 in Rookie Ball). Same thing with Hermida(47 NYP ABs, .224/.302/.321/.623 in Rookie Ball), Josh Hamilton(72 NYP ABs, .194/.205/.236/.441), James Loney, and Derek Jeter(37 SAL ABs, .593 OPS in Rookie, .688 in SAL). Prince Fielder split time between the MWL(.241/.303/.384/.687) and Rookie ball. Baldelli spent his entire age 18 year in Rookie Ball(.216/.254/.310/.564 in 232 ABs), same as Casey Kotchman, Ian Stewart, Billy Butler, Alex Rios(.269/.319/.325/.644, 234 ABs), Austin Kearns, Lastings Milledge(26 ABs), Jeff Francoeur, Joe Mauer, Jason Kendall(.261/.311/.279/.590, 111 ABs), and Jack Cust. It's not something to be super worried about.

    Someone clarify for me, is it a year from the draft date, signing date, or signing deadline that you can't trade a new draftee for?

    He's absolutely killed left handed pitching this year. Someone in need of a bench bat should pick him up. A right handed Russell Branyan, as it were.

    Why would it be a good thing for it to be between the 3B and pitcher? It's not going to get past them, and it makes a shorter throw for the 3B with more momentum to the base. Also, like has been mentioned, barehanding a slow roller and throwing to first from 3B is pretty easy, especially for a professional baseball player. It looks cool(and it's tons of fun to do), but it's not very difficult.

    I didn't say that post was flawless, but it had content, examples, and in general made a point(also, it didn't make the "everyone is a whiner" argument, more of a "there's too much whining"). Sarcastically saying "nuh-uh" without addressing any of the content of the post doesn't really do any of those.

    Well, you asked for the conservative estimate. He could move up quicker than that, but I think it's tough to envision him being a possibility for the Major League club before 2011. He's not a college pitcher with a lot of high level instruction and experience, he needs time to refine his repertoir. For comparison, Zambrano pitched in Low A in 1999, and aside from a September callup, he wasn't a factor in the Majors til 2002. Jae-Kuk Ryu spent part of 2002 and most of 2003 in Lansing, but didn't hit Iowa until 2006(although he had a 30 IP season, due to injury I believe).

    Was that really necessary? If you aren't going to respond to the points he made, then there's no need to say anything. I responded to each and every point he made. They are all wrong. Then say why instead of being snide. The condesenscion(boy do I miss my auto-spellcheck when I'm at work) is unnecessary.

    Molina was covering the entire plate, which is the main reason he got a concussion.

    So assuming no major speed bumps, we're looking at a conservative ETA of sometime in 2010? Conservative would be 2012(2009 A+, 2010 AA, 2011 AAA). If he advances well it might be sometime in 2011.

    Rhee is a prospect to be excited about. His short outings are mostly a function of a pitch count as he recovers from his injury. And there's no way he sees Tennessee this season.
