  1. I'm not sure why this needs clarification, but Abuck is a Cubs fan.
  2. It's 2-3 months of Sabathia plus 2 first round picks, or Sabathia + extension.
  3. Send him in for fake surgery or something to keep his trade value afloat. On a more positive note, Flaherty was BA's Prospect of the Day in the Daily Dish. Vitters was also mentioned.
  4. None of the hitters were really great, but none of them(Cedeno's limited time excepted) were terrible. The team hit .279/.352/.432/.784 for the month. Pitching wise, the team had a 201/96 K/BB in just under 300 IP. That's pretty stellar for the entirety of a staff.
  5. Sabathia threw more innings last year than Harden has the last 3 years combined.
  6. .303/.373/.528/.901 without this past weekend.
  7. I did it for may, and now it's time for June's numbers. First the hitters: Player AB Slash Line Ramirez 102 .265/.330/.461/.791 D Lee 99 .283/.371/.404/.775 Theriot 94 .309/.369/.340/.709 Soto 88 .250/.327/.420/.747 Fukudome 87 .264/.387/.402/.789 DeRosa 86 .279/.374/.465/.839 Edmonds 72 .319/.419/.667/1.085 Cedeno 42 .214/.267/.238/.505 Fontenot 40 .250/.286/.500/.786 Soriano 39 .256/.318/.538/.857 Patterson 30 .300/.389/.433/.822 Johnson 29 .310/.323/.517/.840 Blanco 25 .240/.269/.240/.509 Hoffpauir 20 .350/.381/.500/.881 Murton 17 .294/.333/.412/.745 And the pitchers: Player IP ERA WHIP K/BB Lilly 41.2 3.02 1.15 39/17 Dempster 29.2 4.55 1.35 23/8 Marquis 29.1 4.91 1.30 12/12 Gallagher 27.2 4.23 1.37 30/10 Zambrano 25.1 5.68 1.78 13/12 Marshall 11.2 5.40 1.20 12/2 Lieber 11.0 1.64 1.18 6/2 Wood 11.0 0.82 0.91 19/3 Marmol 11.0 7.36 1.27 12/9 Howry 10.0 4.50 1.30 8/1 Cotts 9.0 4.00 1.56 11/5 Wuertz 8.8 2.08 2.08 7/5 Eyre 6.2 8.10 1.95 8/3
  8. I didn't realize Krier had been as good as he has. 31/7 K/BB and only 2 HR in over 30 IP, but a WHIP upwards of 1.50. Bizarre that he K's so many and gives up so few long balls, yet remains so hittable.
  9. Vitters is 2 for 4 with a K, he's now hitting .357/.383/.554/.937 in 60 PA's Flaherty is 3 for 4 with a K, he's now hitting .375/.444/.594/1.038 in 36 PA's
  10. AT&T had a runs park factor below 1 each of the previous 3 years.
  11. Vitters didn't get a hit in Boise's opener, although he did take a walk. He's hit safely in every game since.
  12. Duncan is a great pitching coach, but Mulder is not a fringe guy that Duncan can work with to be productive, he's a corpse. 3 starts in AAA, 13.50 ERA, 2.48 WHIP, and only 8 K's in 13.1 IP
  13. When you've been as bad as Edmonds has been against LHP, you have to be bad against all types of them. Yeah, that's not true. Sure it is. He had 2 hits against one yesterday and that raised his OPS to .559. It's nearly impossible to be that bad overall yet not struggle against half of them.
  14. They still have a guy OPSing over 1.000 against LHP(Soto), another nearly .950(Lee), another over .850(DeRosa), another over .800(Theriot), plus Fukudome's stellar OBP in the leadoff spot and Murton's stellar history(.875+ career OPS against LHP). The lineup is fine to face LHP, even without Soriano and Ramirez.
  15. I haven't paid close enough attention to know, but does it seem that Edmonds struggles against all lefties or is it just finesse or hard throwing lefties? When you've been as bad as Edmonds has been against LHP, you have to be bad against all types of them.
  16. Please send Marquez Smith to Daytona. 2 for 2 with a HR and a walk tonight, pushing his line to .296/.350/.505
  17. This year is the best offensive career of Crede's career so far, his OPS is currently .849. The last 4 years, the lowest OPS Ramirez has put up is .912. The difference in defense is not nearly made up for by 65-100 points of OPS. Ramirez's numbers for non-PBP fielding metrics are so low because the Cubs have struck out the most hitters in the league since the Clinton administration. They also had at least 500 IP out of fly ball heavy starters last year.
  18. Isn't Mr. Wonderful from the Mets leading that vote? Chipper leads Aramis by a million votes, Wright is in 3rd.
  19. We're sending down EPatt because he can't play defense and you want to replace him with Hoffpauir? I've liked Kroeger since we picked him up, but since he's not rostered there's little chance of him being called up.
  20. And the Cardinals pretty much never play stupid baseball. That is the main cause for worry. They suck, we all know that, but we are still the Cubs. Stupid baseball is what we do. I was out of town and didn't see any of the Royals series, but prior to that, the Cardinals had: -Walked in at least 5 runs, including a game-loser to Detroit -Had Ankiel fall down on a routine ball, turning an out into a triple and a run in a game they eventually lost in extras -Had a runner on 3rd get tagged out as part of a 5-3 double play -Threw a ball into right field trying to get a force out they had little chance of getting This is from the last week or two, and from memory, and from a guy who watches maybe 3 innings of the Cardinals per game.
  21. When looking at the pitching matchups, consider that the Giants starters will be facing a Cubs offense that, while hampered by injuries, still contains Lee, Fukudome, Soto, DeRosa, and a streaking Edmonds. The Cubs starters will be facing an offense that is highlighted by Fred Lewis and Aaron Rowand, or in other words, terrible.
