  1. I wonder if Iowa's time of possession has been more than 2 of the 28+ minutes played so far.
  2. Iowa ran 6 plays in the first quarter, one of them a punt, and leads Penn State 7-3 after 1.
  3. Yes, he's an outstanding defensive catcher. His offense is more than fine for a catcher at .298/.362/.414 at age 21 in AA. When he was selected for the futures game he was OPSing more than 900 in Tennessee.
  4. Last I checked, the Padres play in a pitcher's park too. 92 ERA+ for a career. Yuck. He's 25. And he's been over 100 three out of four years. And he's got a fantastic minor league track record.
  5. Pie, Cedeno, Atkins, and Hill for Peavy would be unbelievable.
  6. It's not much of an upgrade, but it's a better bet going forward(one they'd pay for with the increased salary).
  7. This can also be written "they'd have a legitimate chance of winning the ACC". no, no they would not Sure they could, there's one, maybe two teams that can't win the conference right now.
  8. If worse came to worse I'd probably do it, but I'd really hate to give up both Marshall and Samardzija. Not because their combined value is so great, but losing both our cheap 6th starter options at once would be tough to take.
  9. This can also be written "they'd have a legitimate chance of winning the ACC".
  10. He wasn't any good. .266/.320/.400/.720 in Daytona at age 21/22.
  11. Why would Oakland trade Sweeney?
  12. That's the case with most relievers because they're middling talents whose performance can really fluctuate in short spans, especially with short relief outings. Wood is in the pen because of health, and that's the chief risk in giving him multiple years given his success as a reliever and his stuff. That said, I don't mind letting Wood walk and taking the picks, and I think we could probably even get by in the pen with the odds of Marmol and 2 of Samardzija, Wuertz, and Gaudin having good years(Ceda would be lingering as well if he's still around). I wouldn't feel good about the talent level in the pen though, and would want to add someone like Cruz or Affeldt, at which point you debate if it's simpler and maybe just as efficient to keep Wood around.
  13. Peavy minus Marquis is like ~1.1 million. I doubt that makes the difference in bringing back Wood.
  14. was he forced out? if so, lame. Why? He's Willinghamming that program.
  15. So, is pretty much every pitcher that has a multi-year contract. While that's true, injury worries aren't exactly overwrought worrying when it comes to Peavy, and I've seen more than one opinion that his max effort delivery and reliance on his slider could cause him some serious problems.
  16. When projecting Olsen, it's important to keep in mind he's over a year younger than Sean Marshall. Getting Hermida and Peavy would make me a very happy camper, and if we were to keep Olsen that'd be fine too. Especially if that meant doing something like trading Lee and making a run at Teixeira.
  17. If we're going to be so dogged to Sagarin that we're calling South Carolina a Top 30 team, then your blow by blow comparison of OU's schedule v. Florida's needs some revision.
  18. That's not necessary. You don't think Dempster's change in repertoire makes his success more sustainable?
  19. You're right, I forgot that the 2 sandwich picks aren't ours to begin with, that does make a difference.
  20. The difference in picks is pretty negligible(unless Affeldt is the reliever signed), and I didn't include the return on Lee both for simplicity's sake and so that we didn't get into a "we're getting too much/little for Lee" debate, which wasn't my intention.
  21. Just for the sake of argument. Which is greater, going forward? The gap between Derrek Lee and Mark Teixeira Or.. The gap between Ryan Dempster and Sean Marshall PLUS the gap between Kerry Wood and Juan Cruz/Jeremy Affeldt
  22. When comparing the two options of re-signing Wood, or signing Juan Cruz, there is no difference in draft picks, aside from movement a couple picks in either direction
  23. Not disagreeing, just trying to clarify. From the looks of that replay, especially the back angle with a guy cutting across the field of vision as it happened, I can see why a ref thought it was helmet-to helmet. It wasn't, but it was kinda close and the motion was the same as if it had been. The other thing is, what is the actual wording on that rule? I've understood it that you can't lower your shoulder on a guy who's defenseless, which I take to mean is in the process of making a play on the ball.
  24. You're missing the point. Projections for a new season are influenced by last year, but ultimately not bound by them. Players progress, stagnate, and decline.
