  1. There's mini Gameday for minor leagues now, sweet. Jackson is off to a rough start. 4 pitch walk, single on a full count, K, HR, GO, K in the first. Nearly 30 pitches.
  2. Harden throws essentially the same pitch at every different speed imaginable. Someone can show you the Pitch f/x graph cause I don't know where it is, but Harden does an amazing job of keeping all his pitches from the same release point, and the trajectory doesn't change until it's halfway to the plate. In other words, hitters can't tell if a pitch is a fastball or changeup until after they need to decide to swing. Marmol's fastball/slider works so well because of the slider. He throws it so hard and it has such late movement that hitters start reacting to the fastball(they need to early because Marmol has great velocity), but the ball falls off the table and they've already started their swing.
  3. With good defenders in the outfield that's either 1 in and a man on 2nd or 2nd and 3rd. Instead it's 1 in and a runner on 3rd. Thanks Brewers.
  4. Well, don't they have like 3 starters on the DL?
  5. Tony Thomas went off. 4 for 5 with a 2B and 2 HR. Strong day for relief pitchers. Stevens, Parker, my boy Cales, and Perconte all with good showings.
  6. it was the only play he had. you're letting your hatred for theriot distort your view of the game. trying to turn two on that play would have been a terrible decision. It was hit to his right so there are no easy options, but especially after watching how much he was able to get on his throw home, it's clear we would've been better off gambling on Fontenot's arm beating Braun than having Theriot try to stop himself and make a looong throw(he was at double play depth for a reason) to get Weeks on a tag play. the outfielder - soriano - got a bad jump on a routine fly ball. you're ripping a shortstop for not making a catch on a lazy fly ball to left field. No, I said what I said. I'm not upset at him for not catching it, in the game thread I said Soriano needed to get there. I'm saying it's stupid for him calling for it and potentially causing the other outfielders to not be able to get to it. It's a dumb decision on his part.
  7. explain Questionable defensive decisions. Horrid basepath instincts. Below average range. Below average arm. okay, what questionable defensive decisions did he make today? and his defense has been evaluated as right around average by most defensive metrics, which doesn't mesh with your assessment. He tried to call off outfielders on a flyball into left center. He tried to throw home when he was at double play depth on the last play of the game.
  8. If Gregg is going to be this poor, then hopefully Guzman and Heilman continue to pitch well.
  9. Once Harden left the game it was just an endless concatenation of dumb decisions. Leave Heilman in, it's just Craig Counsell and there are good RH hitters coming up. Use Hoffpauir to drive in the run, or at least Gathright so he can beat out a DP. If you're that worried about Macha countering with a LHP then just burn Gathright and use Johnson, Gathright's only purpose right now is unnecessary defensive replacement(see below). Leave Marshall in, he's a starter, he's good enough to face Hardy, Cameron, and Hall. And if you do take out Marshall, just let Vizcaino finish the inning when there's little danger, especially when there's not much left in the pen and Gregg doesn't throw enough strikes to be trusted with inherited runners. And stop taking Fukudome out of game for defensive purposes.
  10. Yea arent his numbers fantastic vs RH's? Not much difference for his career, but last year a .529 OPS against for RH hitters. And he brings Gregg into the middle of an inning. Why?
  11. Holy moly, has anyone seen Vizcaino's RH/LH split from last year? 500+ difference in OPS.
  12. The umpiring has been a disaster. And I am seriously getting pissed off at Lou. Marshall's good enough to face Hardy, Cameron, and Hall 3 times in a game, but since he just entered the game you pull him for VIZCAINO? There are no words.
  13. Please let Marshall pitch the full inning. If you make one competent decision today, Lou, leave Marshall in for the whole 8th, or even bring in Guzman if you need someone to finish the 8th.
  14. Restarting Firefox brought back MLB.TV. Just in time to see Miles GIDP. Dumb dumb dumb, Lou.
  15. If you're terrified of using Hoffpauir and want a LH that can't elevate the ball, at least put in Gathright so he can beat out the DP.
  16. why arent you watching on wgn? Because I'd have to go next door where someone else might be using the TV that gets WGN.
  17. What the heck, and can't pull MLB.TV out of commercial purgatory.
  18. Lou is thinking a bit too much here. Counsell's not dangerous enough to warrant a LH reliever with 3 better RH hitters coming behind him
  19. Lineup sets up nicely here. Heilman for the bottom of the order, Marmol for the big hitters, and Gregg for the bottom half(maybe Fielder) in the 9th. Really, he didn't swing at that?
  20. Gameday has Hardy's pitch being essentially dead in the middle of the zone, and Lee's being easily outside. Even with margin for error in Gameday, it illustrates the point. Whatever though, I don't want to debate it anymore. Good inning for Harden.
