No, you accumulate service time on the 60 day DL. In theory they could option Schwarber prior to DLing him, but that would be a grievance the Cubs would and should lose.

i think if it has any impact on his future as a catcher it would be negative Yeah, he shredded his knee and loses a full year of potential reps, that's far more damaging to his defensive future than a risk of another freak collision. Schwarber didn't do anything wrong, in big outfields that stuff is more prone to happen even with 3 fleet of foot guys out there.
